Looks like GRRM has confirmed some casting is going on for Season 4:
[sp]I don't think so. It said Ramsay made a "coat out of the skins" of the women with Mance. That's a specific Ramsay thing to do and I don't believe Mance was at Winterfell long enough to know things Ramsay would do like that. Not to mention during Theon's escape, they got caught.[/sp]
(ADWD)[sp]Bear in mind that Mance was raised by the Night's Watch, and I imagine that in those 18 years or howevermuch he spent with them, he'd have learned a bit about the northern houses, and the Boltons and the Starks are the main two, so it makes sense that he'd know about them from stories that he'd have heard as a kid there. It's hardly a secret that the Boltons used to skin their enemies, so it doesn't seem like too much of an extrapolation. I agree with you in that I don't think Mance wrote the letter, though.[/sp]
man i wish lucius vorenus and mark antony werent such cry babies and joined the show.
mark antony would have made a killer euron.
and lucius could have been a cool old griff.

I'm a purely show watcher, so I have no idea who those characters are, but I completely agree that they should sack up and do the show. They were fantastic in 'Rome.'

Euron is one of Balon's brothers (Balon is Theon's father). Books 3-5 [sp]He becomes king of the ironborn when Balon dies. "Old Griff" is Jon Connington, who you probably haven't heard of if you haven't read the books[/sp].

euron's one of the coolest characters you'll meet. same with victarion who titus pullo would fit perfectly, they're both greyjoys and they're both super badass, way better than theon and his grumpy dad.
old griff is pretty cool as well, reminds me a bit of ned stark. you wont meet him for a long while though.

[sp] but he would have known about the boltons and their torture habits, and being in the general vicinity of ramsay for even just a little while would be enough to call him out on being the buffalo bill of westeros [/sp]
I love how there are so many theories regarding ASOIAF. There are some pretty central elements, prophecies that we are are told about again and again. The prophesied return of Azor Ahai, the prophecy of the three headed dragon, and of course, the song of ice and fire. GRRM sets it up so that several characters might fit each role.
My stupid theory:
[sp]Azor Ahai and the Last Hero were the same person. Probably Brandon the Builder, who founded the Watch. Rhaegar thought his son Aegon was the song of ice and fire, but it was his other son:
Jon Snow is the son of Lyanna and Rhaegar, ice and fire. Jon Snow dies at the hand of the Watch, gets revived by Melisandre and is Azor Ahai reborn.
Azor Ahai used a flaming sword called Lightbringer, which Stannis tries to recreate using Melisandre's magic, but fails to do so; his sword only glows, but isn't hot. In the books, Jon ponders if Valyrian steel is the same as dragonsteel, which was what the Last Hero used when he slew the Others. Perhaps it needs to be Valyrian steel for the magic to really work, which Jon Snow's sword is made of? Or maybe Stannis' sword wasn't good enough because he didn't drive it into the chest of his wife, idk.[/sp]
Or maybe I'm just completely wrong.
atleast clarify it has book spoilers
Why? It's speculation about things that haven't even been released yet, it's obviously going to have book spoilers. Why would someone even click that if they hadn't read the books, when it says right there what it's about.
I don't like the prophecies. It was all fun and games guessing what's going to happen, but by telling us what will happen he's eliminated a myriad of options, making the story far more predictable.
Also, Petyr's obsesion with catlyn is fucking stupid. He's got more whores than a hive has bees, yet he makes critical errors whenever he's near his 'love' .

I still don't believe it. Why would it be him? What cause does he have, at all?

How so? It should be no different than the other girls in 3rd grade that you don't care about, but you're always wary around that one girl you have a huge crush on.
God, I was reading the books, Dany is a fucking cunt.
[sp]She actually laughs at Quentyn, a sweet little guy who travelled across the ocean, having two of his best friends killed, when he proposes to her. This is our protagonist everyone.[/sp]
[sp]Also, by doing this, she loses all hope of ever getting a mainland westeros ally. Seeing as she would never ally with the greyjoys as she hates slavery. The only one I could possibly think of would be the North, but what good would they be when they're all warring against each other?[/sp]
[sp]Also the last chapter "BUT IM JUST A LITTLE GIRL, WAAAH", even Sansa was never this bad.[/sp]
[sp]GRRM, heres how you resolve the meereenese knot. By severing it. Nobody gives a shit about meereen.[/sp]

That's why Petyr is such a fag. It should be different than the other girls in 3rd grade and that one girl you had a huge crush on because he's like 40 - 50 years old. He's such a loser. it's unbelievable. And not in the, naw theeonn you're such a loser way. Petyr is a loser cunt. Theon was just a loser pretending to be a cunt cos of what a loser he was.

Between Theon and Petyr, which is [sp]Lord Paramount of the Riverlands, Lord Protector of the Vale, and possibly the richest man in Westeros if you look closer at his accounts?[/sp] :v:

Littlefinger kicks ass.
I've not read any of the books but Littlefinger is one of my favourite characters in the TV show. He is a complete arsehole but atleast he has ambition.

He gets a lot more air time in the show than he gets time in the books, one of the few changes I'm happy with.

Here's a breakdown on (Book 5 Spoilers) [sp]how we can at least safely assume the letter is fake.
First things first, what does the letter open with? "Bastard." Ramsay really really REALLY hates that word, so while I imagine he might use it as a derogatory term, it's unlikely. The second is his particular mention of "You told the world you burned the King-Beyond-the-Wall..." When did Jon actually do that? Last I checked he never sent any ravens out about that, hell it doesn't make sense for Ramsay to even be calling Mance the "King-Beyond-The-Wall."
Next on the plate is the little diddy about the "Wilding princess" and the "Wilding babe." Again, how does Ramsay know about that? Even if he was torturing Mance he'd have no reason to extract those specific bits of information. Hell, those two people are functionally useless to the Boltons. Another important thing to remember is Ramsay specifically calls the Night's Watch "Crows" in the letter. Now if every other book is to go by, that is mostly used by the Wildings; the Southron lords call them the Watch, Rapers, I think I even saw them called Ravens once or twice, but crows?
Oh and last but not least, the letter was written with Maester's Ink, when it was kinda sorta established Ramsay uses blood.[/sp]
Okay, but...why? For what purpose would he do that?
just for a laugh.
[sp] he'd come back to castle black and be all like:
"Haha jon did you read that letter i sent? jon?
jooooon?
aw" [/sp]
Well I bought the first book today. I've already had some fun with, even though I've seen the TV series.
...over 1000000 pages to go...
I bought books 1-5 the other day, even though I am caught up with the show. Good purchase?
I am an avid reader too, I meant to read them a long time ago.

Even though the show is good, the books themselves are way better and well worth the read. Just remember to read them from the beginning and don't skip any parts even though it might feel like you already know the stuff cause of the show, there's tons of minor characters and little nuances that never get mentioned in the show.
Here's an odd question you probably get alot here.
This is a series I always intended to watch but never got round to it. Got a pretty empty summer fast approaching so what would you recommend?
Should I read the books first?
Should I watch the program first?
Books, always books

For book readers, the show is more of a supplement than an end in of itself to enjoy.

Petyr is pretty much the best player in the game of thrones.

Absolutely agree. Always read the books over the adaptations. The only exception for me is LoTR because they differ so much that both are great as standalone experiences.
