I completely agree, people give him so much shit but he's gone from hardly a lord to Harrenhal, the entire Vale + all revenues jeesuz, that's kinda what the game is about init?
Books, always books
[editline]29th May 2013[/editline]
For book readers, the show is more of a supplement than an end in of itself to enjoy.
I disagree. Of course the books are a superior way of experiencing the universe, but I would watch the show first.
Half of the shows appeal is that anything can happen. Got me super pumped for each episode. I ruined season two for myself when I read the books. I have learned to enjoy the other things the show has to offer more, but still, I kind of regret that.

there are still 'what the fucking fuck' moments in the tv show that aren't in the books.
whatever media you take in first, one will spoil the other.
Peter is the best short term player. In the long run, he's totally fucked.

All he needs is whatever other players want/need.
And dangle it in front of them until they play the tune he wants, whether they realize it or not.

I'm not saying that he isn't. I'm just saying that he's a loser through and through. And not one to empathize with either. He's a devious little amoral loser who even when he has the power to not be a prick will still be one. If he somehow ever won the game of thrones, he would never last. No one would ever love him and he's not exactly on Maegor the Cruel's level to rule with fear.
And if/when he dies i'm gonna laugh my little head off.

What I'm waiting is for him to try manipulate someone like Ramsay and just get slaughter killed
[editline]30th May 2013[/editline]
Although Ramsay isn't the smartest of brutal murder boys I guess.
Here's an odd question you probably get alot here.
This is a series I always intended to watch but never got round to it. Got a pretty empty summer fast approaching so what would you recommend?
Should I read the books first?
Should I watch the program first?
I think everyone will feel differently about this. I read the books after finishing season 2, so I know what will happen in season 3. I kind of wish I didn't know what's coming, but at the same time the books are so good that I don't regret reading them.
I would say read them, just because everything in the show becomes so much easier to follow. It's also fun to read the predictions of people who just watch the show. [sp]The shit that's about to go down... oh lord they're all going to be so upset.[/sp]

I feel that Petyr knows that in this world, to love means to die. He's already lost that and now he has no way "to die" so to speak. He's not looking to love, nor to even rule. I believe he aims to be the puppet master to whomever wins the throne.
I also don't think Petyr will be able to cope in a world that's becoming more and more magical.
He knows people, and he knows how to manipulate them.
But dragons eat mockingbirds like pop corn.
(that was a little metaphor for you hehe)

yeah. but who would even let him?

books are awesome, i only read them once but plan to read them again. i still have better memory than emperor though
Who's to say the person would know?
Who's to say the person would know?
mmmm i dont see how he would pull it off. but whutever.
it's odd cos i never noticed it in season 1 but the guy who plays tyrion always seems like he's putting on a voice. i dunno how to explain it. it just doesn't sound that natural.
I watched season one to get myself hooked and to establish the characters; for someone starting off with the books without a visual guide, it can be pretty difficult to take in all the characters. I knew the books were out but I thought it'd be easier to start off with. I watched season one, got hooked, read book one, watched season two, then I read all of the books in order from then on. It was great. Now, watching season three, I can just watch.
And wait.
Watching the show is good for book readers too as it helps to visualize some of the more confusing scenes in the books. Its up to you in the end but I heartily recommend reading the books as well as watching the show.
While some of the characters look completely wrong (Asha/Yara, The Others, I'm sure they had their reasons), it made me notice how wrong I am while picturing some of the characters. I always pictured Samwell as being just Porky from Earthbound plus a few years, while he's actually much older and not blonde.

Sam looks almost identical to how I imagined him in the books.
Jon on the other hand, doesn't. I imagined him to look like a younger version of Ned, but that's not really feasible with actors.
And I imagined Ned to have more hair, and it be black.
Some of the characters are a bit hit and miss but they nailed robert baratheon so well he was probably my favourite character from the first season. He was exactly how I pictured him the book and the actor absolutely nailed his performance.

Not possible. They had to bring in an actor who's good at playing dead or Soon to die.

As in some characters are perfect (tywin and robert) and others are really not good (Daario).
And others are realy down to personal opinion. People on this thread don't seem to understand me when i tell them that i don't like the way arya/jon are portrayed in comparison to the books. Whilst the additional evil in joffery is well done the more overtly homosexual Renly is a little in bad taste. So on and so forth. The characters ARE hit and miss: Davos is done realy well but daenerys is questionable at times. Roose Bolton looks like Roose Bolton; but dario looks like a sex offender.
Daario kind of is a sex offender though
Roose is not Roosey enough imo.
He needs his cloak, for a start. Then there's the fact that he should really be slightly taller and leaner, he needs to be paler, and he needs to speak a lot more quietly - this is a man who gets things done with his words, he doesn't need to shout. He should really be colder in general, I always imagined him as a really cold individual. (and medieval health freak)

Yeah, but he should be like a merc, which is to say massively flamboyant like the landschneghts. The book description of him has him massively puffed up like a peacock, which describes mercs of the time perfectly. The television one is way too restrained in his tastes. He should be in bright yellows, with blue hair and an elaborate Jack Sparrow style beard split into three prongs.
A massively dressed up sex offender, who can barely keep the ladies at bay.
Something about the actor playing Daario reminds me of the actress that plays Margery, I can't put my finger on it though. Maybe that's just me.
I seriously can't wait for this next episode. I'm going to have to find a way to get my hands on the books.

Both of them have broadset faces and eyes which are far apart and both stare at people the same way
There are lots of little visual errors that they've done. Most of them aren't too bad, some of them are a bit odd.
- None of the starks look related.
- Not all the characters have the eyecolours they should have. some simple contacts would sort this out. the red priests and those they resurect are supposed to have red eyes for instance: arguably important.
-Ghost makes too much noise.
- Some of the armour/sets are very elaborate when they shouldn't be. I suppose it's to better tell one faction from another.
-puberty realy didn't go well for bran's actor.
- Quartheen's don't show their tits.
I'm going to get a box set.
Is it the sort of show I shouldn't watch with my mum (we watch most TV together)? I know it's sex scene heavy but it is that bad or akward? She enjoys fantasy and all that.
Well my mother is the church secretary for our local church and she loves it

I watch it with my grandmother :v: Plenty of the sex / nudity stuff is story-relevant and somehow less contrived than showing Alice Eve in futuristic underwear.

Considering it seems like they're running on a relatively tight budget and aren't able to get things pinpoint accurate, they've done a good job so far despite some odd story changes and character mergings (once again due to budget no doubt or to make it easier for viewers to follow). Which reminds me, are Dany's eyes purple in the series or no? I never bothered to look close enough(Purple eyes being a prominent feature of Targs next to light blonde hair).
I doubt it'd happen but a prequel series delving into Robert's Rebellion would be cool.
