Who is it Second last to the left? I really cannot tell.
Second from the left is Cersei.
Who is it Second last to the left? I really cannot tell.
It's Cersei, but I didn't recognize her either at first. Looks a lot more like Marina (and the Diamonds). EDIT: Oh you mean last - that's Sansa. EDIT2: No you don't. Whatever, my bad.
Now that i think of it, i hope arya somehow meets up with bron. They'd make a great pair.
Second from the left is Cersei.
Second last to the left is the person standing over there: ----------> [editline]20th June 2013[/editline]
It's Cersei, but I didn't recognize her either at first. Sorry.
That would be second to last FROM the left. As in, you start counting from Joffrey, so the last is Arya, and the second to last is Sansa. How is that proper English? Also, has any of you guys tried both watching the show before reading the books, and reading the books before watching the show? Which one is better?

It's funny because I cant help but imagine the characters in the books as they appear in the show, except for characters that weren't introduced at the time I started reading. ie [sp]daario[/sp]

Except for Darrio, they fucked that one up. And giantsbane doesn't say HAR HAR enough.
Also, has any of you guys tried both watching the show before reading the books, and reading the books before watching the show? Unless it's harry Potter, in which case you don't stand a chance against Warner Bros indoctri- i mean marketing campaign.
Daario would've looked fucking ridiculous on tv if they kept his silly look. I'm glad they changed him to a normal person instead of being a clown.
I'm not, mainly because his clown look was typical of late Medieval Italian ad German mercenaries like the Swiss Pikemen. It's over the top and ridiculous because that's how those mercenaries acted. [editline]20th June 2013[/editline] Admittedly it would kinda majorly clash with the brown leather and dull grey steel of almost all the other characters.
Daario would've looked fucking ridiculous on tv if they kept his silly look. I'm glad they changed him to a normal person instead of being a clown.
Because making the show look to have a diverse culture of people would be dumb.
I started reading the books and I have to say some of the scenes they altered in the show I like better than the book. Mostly small things like when Jon is leaving to the wall, in the book Cat just straight up says "it should have been you" implying he should be the cripple. Which is just excessive imo. She was generally more of a bitch in that part and in the show you can see the contempt she holds for him but she doesn't just blurt it out. And then there's the part where littlefinger leads ned down a rock face to go see his wife. Again just unnecessary and I preferred the more direct approach in the show. Of course the book is better for going into detail, i'm more interested in the world it self than the story at this point.
I've not got to Season 3 year (not on blu-ray dammit) and I've only just started reading the books but from what I understand, the changes in the show started minor but are snowballing a bit? Characters that didn't exist are replacing other major characters from the book. Characters that shouldn't die and dying left right and centre. Mago died in season 1 but George has plans for him in future books, I've heard he's a POV character. I'm not really sure as I'm still in the process of reading the books but I hope the changes don't end up becoming game changers. Also do two of the books happen at the same time? I've heard one doesn't have all the fan favourite characters and the one after does but occurs at the same time. I wonder how'll they'll do that, just adapt both at the same time I guess. Unlike books you can't drop characters for a couple of years and come back to them. Actors have to move on. Plus the kids are getting old fast. Arya is starting to get womanly features they won't be able to hide forever.

They're two different things, and I think the show creators have done a hell of a job translating the source material to tv
I guess it's like Walking Dead. It deviates but still sticks true to the feel of the source material. It ends up coming across as an Alternate Universe than a bad adaptation.
Well I heard they aren't going to wait for the books to finish before they finish off the show, so that's pretty telling as far as differences between the two. [editline]21st June 2013[/editline] Honestly i'd prefer it, reading can be a bit tedious because I already watched the show and know most significant twists. If the two were to break apart more, it's just more fresh entertainment.
h-hello i'm running out of unique scenes :( [editline]21st June 2013[/editline] hehe
Daario would've looked fucking ridiculous on tv if they kept his silly look. Given silly helmets to the starks and freys. Changed Qarth's entire plot to something silly... Gave mushy love lines to shae, who doesn't give a fuck in the books. Turned podrick into a sex god Made Ramsay snow a comedian I could seriously write a page essay on how the tv show is far sillier than the books. Whats so outlandish about hair dye, feather capes or boob showing dresses?
hehe
the best

[editline]21st June 2013[/editline] Oh wait everyone is talking about that above.
I remember reading that Darrio was very flamboyant and colourful, is that correct?
He acts like you'd expect a German or Italian merc to act. He wears his wealth on his person, and as such should be amazingly flamboyant. It actually wouldn't be terrible, think of a slightly more colourful Jack Sparrow, there's a post I made a dozen pages back about it or so, and others have made them too.
snip wrong thread
You say that, but the tv show has also: Given the tullys (blackfish and edmure) fish scale armour.
Eh, scale armour was a real thing, and I don't think it looks that bad
Given silly helmets to the starks and freys.
Starks, yeah, their helmets look bad, but the Freys wear normal halfhelms I believe.
Changed Qarth's entire plot to something silly... Gave mushy love lines to shae, who doesn't give a fuck in the books. Turned podrick into a sex god
Yeah those were all pretty dumb
Made Ramsay snow a comedian
Season three/Book 5[sp]I see nothing wrong with his adaptation. He's a vile, cruel, mocking bastard and making jokes about Theon's new position really seems like his kind of thing.[/sp]
i'm glad ramsay is a funny guy, because i dont think anyone likes theon and no one's going to care about those scenes if ramsay isn't bringing the humor
I just find those scenes unpleasant, I don't give a shit about [sp]Theon[/sp], if only because the dude who plays him has a face and mannerisms that make him easy to hate. It's just like, cool, he's getting what he had coming to him, when's the next scene? [editline]22nd June 2013[/editline] the only thing that could save the character for me is if he actually went through some kind of redemption arc, I spoiled it for myself somewhere down the line but I think he [sp]gets flayed alive and thats him done[/sp] which is lame. He's finally having a shift into a character that isn't so stuck up his own ass, i'd hate to see that end before anything meaningful came about.

"If you think this has a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention."

He's finally having a shift into a character that isn't so stuck up his own ass, i'd hate to see that end before anything meaningful came about.
Book 5 I guess [sp]Theon's arc is that he was a son looking to win the approval of his father and in the process lost the only family he really ever had, Robb Stark. He only went along with his fathers betrayal of the North because otherwise he'd be deemed a "Green lander" and virtually exiled from the Iron Islands, and he wanted to be King there one day. Instead he loses his cock, four toes and five fingers, most of his teeth, and himself. Theon is another in a very long line of tragic characters, and I think I'll use a slightly cut down quote from Dance With Dragons to explain Theon's character; "Theon heard himself say 'My Lady, why do you hate the Starks?' She studied him, "For the same reason you love them.' ... 'I...' Theon put a gloved hand against a pillar. '...I wanted to be one of them'[/sp] Then again this is all book Five so you'll probably not see this put it's still what I think of [sp]Theon. Like Viserys, I pity rather than hate him[/sp]
I think Theon will probably die for making stupid mistakes. That's pretty much game of thrones: You make a mistake? Now you die. Who's more bloodthirsty by the way? Ramsay (Rainbows), Joff (hearts) or arya (Informative) ?
bloodthirsty? arya. she's practically the embodiment of vengeance by this point in the series
protip: if you're new to the series, don't go onto the wiki. literally the first sentence in one of the pages had a MAJOR spoiler for next season in it. [sp]the one where joffrey dies[/sp]
Honestly, I feel horrible for Theon, sorry and all that, but Ramsay makes up for it. God, I don't think there have ever been more vivid feelings of pain than thinking about Theon's dick being chopped off, eugh. Most of the time in shows and shit, they just cut off that though process and cut the guy some slack too and kill him but nooo, you're stuck thinking about how much Theon is probably in pain from being junkless.
