.... I can't wait for Jon to take back Ygritte and then take her south for the winter where they marry and have kids and live happily ever after.
I'm just glad they didn't go with Indians for Dornish, what crap that would be
I always assumed that Dorne was like Spain and had a huge variation, so I don't think he's too white. [editline]29th June 2013[/editline] Hopefully he'll be more tanned though
[QUOTE=Dirty_Ape;41232028]He's the whitest Chilean ever.[/QUOTE] I'm more white than him.

[editline]29th June 2013[/editline] Hopefully he'll be more tanned though[/QUOTE] It is. There are three types of Dornishmen, Stone Dornishmen who live in the valleys of the Red Mountains, they have a lot of Andal and First Men blood and are like much of the rest of southern Westeros, pale, favouring fair hair and blue eyes. Sand Dornishmen, who live in the great deserts of central Dorne and have the most "native" Dornish blood, they are like typical desert nomads, swarthy and dark. Salt Dornishmen live along the slightly more fertile eastern shore, they have a mix of Rhoynar and Dornish blood, being heavily populated by Nymeria's descendants. The Martell's are Salt Dornish, they're like one of the Spanish peoples who lived closely enough among the invading Muslims to take on many of each others physical traits. Then there are the Greenblood Orphan's who are entirely Rhoynar, or near enough not to matter. They populated the Greenblood river to make up for the loss of the River Rhoyne. So yeah, I was expecting some more, I don't know, southern Spanish for Oberyn. But I'll let his talent as an actor make up for it, as I did with so many other miscast characters.
I'm almost done watching Season 3, and I noticed that [sp] Coldhands did not appear. Wasn't he suppose to lead Sam and Gilly back south of the wall?[/sp]

book 3 [sp]perhaps they won't have him at all[/sp]
[QUOTE=Jimbojib;41250924]book 3 [sp]perhaps they won't have him at all[/sp][/QUOTE] I'll be upset.
Same, but I wouldn't be surprised. book 3 again [sp]If he suddenly becomes more important later on, I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to introduce him[/sp]
Yeah, I was guessing they will save him for later.
did anyone see where tywin lannister (tv spoilers) [sp]drove the reasonably priced car? i thought he did pretty well[/sp], i think it might be a pretty important plot point in the future

Can't wait to see Tywin Lannister [sp]drive back the beasts from beyond the wall in a reasonably priced car.[/sp]
I just had a small discussion with a friend and figured some of you guys could answer the question. Would someone like the Roman Emperor Augustus be a serious contender to win the Game of Thrones if he existed in that universe?
I don't see how you can answer that tbh.
It'd depend on way too many factors. What kind of army does he have, their numbers, what allies and how many, starting situation, his starting location, his army composition, money, resources, how his enemies percieve him, who starts off neutral. We'd need to have set figures for a load of variables at the start before we could say anything, if you wanted a serious answer.
He would start off with The Roman Empire at its prime when he was Emperor. This would include his wealth and his Roman supporters like Agrippa. However, the composition and structure of his legions would change as soon as he gets wind of newer technology. He would start off neutral to all. I'm not quite sure on which location he would be at in the GoT world but I suppose some of you smarter posters could draw some sort of ideas to my description. [editline]1st July 2013[/editline] I also suppose the peace time strength of 30 legions (500 000 soldiers) (dont quote me on this) would change once a major war starts.
He'd dominate everywhere because legionnaires are professional soldiers and Westerosi nobles use mostly peasant levy with small amounts of more experienced troops and heavy cavalry. He'd also have a massive numerical advantage against, well, everyone. He could take over Westeros without much issue but he'd still have trouble holding locations like Dorne and the Neck. He'd win Dorne by marriage and who gives a fuck about the Neck. Essos would be a bigger issue, as the Dothraki Sea for example would be pretty damn difficult to conquer.
He wouldn't be able to feed all those men, much less survive the winter. you'd think with winter so severe that there'd be nobody north of the neck and that most would migrate south to dorne/essos/ lands in the summer sea, wouldn't you?

He'd curbstomp them all then, if he had the might of the Roman legions in their prime. The only advange the Westrosi would have would be their knights, and knights are pretty scarce compared to heavy infantry. There would be some elite infantry that the Westerosi have, but they would be nobles guards and small units, not huge armies. The peasent levies would be totally scattered, only the archers having a chance. If you were to combine all of the Westerosi factions then maybe they'd give him a fair fight, but it'd be very messy. Against the Dothraki, however, I honestly couldn't say. If the Dothraki fought like the Mongols, then the Dothraki would probably deal a lot of damage, and possibly win, due to hit and run tactics and horse archer superiority, but the Dothraki are stated in the books to see footsoldiers as only fit to be trampled, so the Roman formations would probably win out there, too.

Yeah, that's why I think they'd go for the Mongol style hit and run against them. It's never made clear if the Dothraki actually decided to change their tactics after the loss against the Unsullied, though. I'd assume they did, they're relatively adaptable it seems, though not as progressivs as Ghenghis Khan and so on. (who chose leaders due to ability and such)
They changed their tactics in that they won't fight Unsullied any more, they just ask for a smaller bribe or cut off their braids and leave.

I think it would depend mostly on the terrain. In the Dothraki Sea, I think the Dothraki would win simply because they have a lot of space to maneuver around the Roman armies marching, but anywhere else I can see Rome kicking ass. The Dothraki have warriors, but Rome has soldiers. Both are good fighters, but the latter has discipline and teamwork that in the end, wins the day more often than not.
