I wouldn't necessarily say that the North has easier access to Essos compared to the South. The North has like, zero proper port cities beyond White Harbor, which implies most other locations across the coast are fairly shitty for docks (ocean currents might also be more favorable in the south.)
Let's also not forget that easier =/= profitable. The North has fuck-all in terms of trade goods, whereas the South has everything from precious gems to gold.
Besides, Northerners are boring.
If anything, the north has it harder for sea travel and trading. The only real reason traders go up there is for White Harbour and the Night's Watch, the latter of which hardly has much gold. Smugglers might go up there to trade with wildlings, but that's very few people. Add to that that the Ironborn are much closer, and your chances of being raided rise accordingly, and Kings Landing -> Dorne, Braavos, Lys, Myr and so on all look much more appealing, and much warmer too. The main trade goods from the north are also near worthless down south. Sure you have amber and furs, but it's warm down south, and they want silks and silvers.
just finished book 4:
[sp]i find it interesting how this talk of prophecies and obsidian candles and dragons and whitewalkers is coming together. it makes everything else seem so insignificant in comparison. it makes robb stark and the war of the five kings seem insignificant. in other news, i wonder what will become of cersei. it seems jaime is not coming to her rescue. also, im left wondering what prince doran meant when he said his son was getting vengeance. he mentioned 'fire and blood' so i can only assume it has something to do with dany.[/sp]
[sp]I concluded in book one that the War of Five Kings was insignificant and not the "main story" simply because of the book's prologue. The first books prologue has a White Walker killing some crows. From that point on, I knew that was the "main story".[/sp]
[sp]Same for how Dany's visions in the warlock's place pretty much spoiled a big reveal in the fifth book if you know how to see literary foreshadowing.[/sp]
So turns out comcast uploads the episodes early. Never knew it. Time to watch this episode 20 minutes early :v:
i hate to be that guy but, does anyone have a stream for tonights episode please?
Good episode. Wall effects looked a bit off
[sp]goddamn ramsay just gets better and better[/sp]
i like the show version more than the book version [sp]DO I LOOK LIKE A FUCKING UMBER TO YOU? [/sp]
We need some good dialog driven episodes every once in a while.
Can't all just be tits 'n' ass 'n' dragons 'n' blood.

hate to break it to you, but after the remainder of this season and the next season, it's all dialogue. this is the most action packed book.

Nothing wrong with tits 'n' ass 'n' dragons 'n' blood as long as they're used in moderation
IMO, best episode yet. Set it up really well and had some great emotional scenes. And that last shot? That was fucking epic as shit, got like, some LOTR vibes from it.

I've read the books, thanks for the tip though.

I was talking about the most recent episode.
It was a good change of pace.
Good episode. Only thing that bugged me was Melisandre's bit. I don't recall the last episode [sp]mentioning anything about Stannis/Mel/Lord of Light interest in the bastard son, plus her just casually trotting into the Brotherhood's camp was weird. You'd think a group like that would be hard as shit to find.[/sp] Kinda felt like a really forced scene but it was good nonetheless.

FOR THE [SP]BEAR[/SP]
Good set-ups in this episode for the last few episodes. Seeing [sp]Brienne in pink was quite funny, wonder if sh will wear that in the bear fight, though the scene with Loras and Sansa comes close with the awkwardness.[/sp] Damn that [sp]Ramsay scene though was perfect. Wonder if next episode will introduce his ladies to Theon.[/sp]
Am I a bad person if I pissed myself laughing when you see [sp]Sansa crying[/sp]?

[sp]She wore it in the book against the bear, I think. If she wore her armor...still think it'd be better in a dress[/sp]

Her life really sucks.
so is [sp]gendry replacing edric storm?[/sp]
Ellie Kendrick who plays Meera once had the role of Anne Frank in The Diary of Anne Frank.
Thomas Brodie-Sangster who plays Jojen Reed once played 10-year old Hitler in Hitler: The Rise of Evil.
HAH
Just something I learned today.
holy moly, that scene with joffrey [sp]RIP Ros :([/sp]

Ah, then I take back what I said previously. Thanks for clearing that up
Iwan Rheon was amazing
[sp]Just when I thought Joffrey was being tamed somewhat :([/sp] Everything's suddenly gone very badly for everyone.
Excellent episode

hahahahaha
playing hodor would be the best job ever.
'but knowing my luck George r martin will just kill me. and throw me in a ditch'
It's great that he's read the books though. I was thinking that most of the characters didn't.
(and did anyone notice the guy taking pictures in the backround at around 3:00? Someone could make an avatar out of it.)
Shit, that exchange between Littlefinger and Varys was one of the best dialogue scenes in the entire show.
[sp]I love that romantic relationship between Jon Snow and Ygritte, but knowing George R.R. Martin their happiness won't last long.[/sp]
The girl who plays Ygritte is fucking attractive and an extremely good actress. I love every scene she is in
