It's not no-deadzone aiming, it's yes-deadzone aiming, IE your weapon can move within the screen (Presumably, if done like ArmA 2 rather than Red Orchestra) without actually rotating your view. That's the deadzone.
oh thank you yes that's what i meant
System Shock fans seem to be welcoming this game with open arms, and I can see why.
Getting a strong dead space 2 sprawl vibe from watching that (not like that's a bad thing), looks pretty damn good so far but the robot enemies don't really have an effect one me, I'll still run away of course but that's because the game needs me to in order to progress but i don't get a sense of dread or fear out of them like i do the amnesia monster (and even those loose their scare factor after a while. None the less it looks very promising so far.

Meaning running directly away from the robot may be the exact opposite of what you're "supposed" to do. This game is more like a roguelike horror fps.
I am ready for this.
Holy fuck that art direction is incredible! I've been dying for good sci-fi survival horror. DS1 scratched that itch, but not much since. [editline]25th June 2013[/editline] Also, this just makes me want a rift so much more.
D'awwww, it's like a really tiny Jailbot.
Also:
All footage is from an alpha build of the game, developed by 4 people.

4 people.
FUCKING WHAT?
D'awwww, it's like a really tiny Jailbot.
I love how everything in the game looks like an Apple II
This and Star Citizen are gonna make me drop dollars on the Occulus Rift... This one is gonna scare the shit out of me though. I assume single player only?
These devs really know what they are doing. I'll surely be purchasing this as soon as it goes on sale.
I'm glad they're doing the whole scenario as that. It's something very innovative, and definitely welcoming. The sound behind this game, is amazing. It has the right sounds at all the right times. No heavy music, or heavy breathing in awkward moments. Just sheer ruthlessness at panic moments. I'm hoping that the robots are random, and can come at you any time. And that there is different enemies. Perhaps a cross between robot and human? Like, deformed, with wires and shit coming out from places? Iunno. I can't wait to see more of this, though.
I'm hoping that the robots are random, and can come at you any time. And that there is different enemies.
Supposedly the whole game is randomly generated.
Supposedly the whole game is randomly generated.
ugh i'm all for procedural generation but it generally should not touch horror. horror is all about careful pacing and planning and the minute to start randomizing things, the seams start to show and the author/developer loses the ability to properly guide the experience. maybe i'm being too pessimistic though, because the gameplay looked pretty wonderful.
I agree its a strange choice, but I'm not gonna count them out because of it. Part of me is glad it won't just be Amnesia In Spaaaaaace!!!
It looks amazing, too bad I'm a fucking pussy though
This looks fucking incredible
The sounds of the robots really remind me of that Colonial Marines browser based game with the waves of robots that attack in the training area (wow that's vague).
Interstellar Marines is what you are thinking of. Edit: Ninja'd above me quite a bit, guess that is what I get for not reading.
been a while since i've seen a legitimately scary robot in a game. well these guys just nailed it also all this talk about scary robots makes me want an actually terrifying Terminator game, with permatermination
I remember this was one of the first things I voted for on greenlight. So glad to finally be seeing more of it.
Holy fucking shit this game pinpointed the atmosphere so good. Even if it is still in alpha, I can safely say that this game easily overshadows Dead Space in atmosphere. The sound design is so crisp and believable I can't believe it.
yeah, the robot design looks way too modern, should be a lot less fluid looking and more boxy, more 'robotic' as it were
Terrifying [editline]26th June 2013[/editline]
Holy fucking shit this game pinpointed the atmosphere so good. i dont understand all the complaints about slight inaccuracies in the artstyle and complaints about the robot not looking retro enough. the guys never said they were making a spot-on 80s scifi throwback game, they've just taken inspiration from a lot of different sources and gone for a somewhat retro aesthetic. i always imagined it more 90s than 80s anyway
I'm just too hyped up on sound design to care about robots.
I'm just too hyped up on sound design to care about robots.
Same. Really, anything can be scary if done right. (within reason)
Terrifying [editline]26th June 2013[/editline] To be fair the dead space games (or the first 2 haven't played the 3rd) all had really good sound design but the atmosphere in general was ruined by it being a action game.
So long as its depressed through the whole game I can accept that design
This trailer also made me realize how much "impact" it has by not having any music.
I voted for this on Steam Greenlight and favorited it. I don't regret my decision. Because there was no music, because the robots are so creepy, well done, and still believable, and because the sound engineering of... Well everything, really was so good, this is one of the few games to hype me up. I wish the developers luck in the gaming market.
Looks amazing but I'm not so keen on the whole permadeath system, it sounded cool on paper when I first heard of it but now I'm getting sick of it, usually because I don't last long in said games and having to start anew all the time completely kills any immersion and involvement with said character. Either way still excited to play it and I love the artstyle.
I've been waiting for this game for months, and it looks goddamn fantastic. I can only imagine what it will be like with Rift support
