We have DFAC's you know.

Why stop there? Feel free to even talk about your local DFAC or Mess Hall.
Ok then. The DFAC here at FOB Salerno isn't half bad. There are better ones, such as the one at Manas AFB, but this one is just as good as any stateside DFAC, if not slightly better. I will be going to another FOB soon, so I will give that DFAC a go too.
They have a sign in front of ours that says "providing the best home cooked meals in europe"

I have a box of MRE's in the garage, I might need them if sandy knocks my power out. In basic training you become very adept at learning which MRE's have candy in them
Where can I get some of these? Besides serving in the army still a bit too young too do so unless they draft kids.
When my dad was serving as a translator for the British Army during the Gulf War, he said the Beef Stew MRE was delicious. The guys he was stationed with (they became good friends) would always give him their Beef Stew MRE's because they knew he liked it so much haha Where can I get MRE's from in the US? California, to be exact. Is there a shop that sells them, or would I have to order it online? Would love to surprise my dad with the Beef Stew MRE.
My dad served in the gulf war back in the 90's/ He was a dispatch rider and would trade his dry British MRE's for the American ones since the US Soldiers loved the British ones since they were lighter and my dad traded for the US ones since they were full of water when he was travelling across deserts.
how to eat mre: pour tabasco sauce all over main dish and side dish chug straight out of bag ??? dont shit for days
My dad served in the gulf war back in the 90's/ He was a dispatch rider and would trade his dry British MRE's for the American ones since the US Soldiers loved the British ones since they were lighter and my dad traded for the US ones since they were full of water when he was travelling across deserts.
Your dad is awesome. Yeah, my dad said so many guys were real good people. They'd happily trade a well-known good MRE for a shit one you ended up with. My dad was always having the guys he was staying with come over and exchange their good ones for his bad ones.
My country's current military MREs are pretty damn argentinian. A "full" one according to some charts includes, notably, all three popular infusions (coffee, tea, yerba mate to make mate cocido, or to pour the entire squad's into a single glass and make a proper mate), a mantecol bar (pretty much peanut butter, cocoa, and sugar, with a very unique texture), sour candy and salty flavored crackers, instant soup, and two main "thermostabilized" meals. Interestingly enough, most of the products are in their retail packaging :v: [t]http://fotos.subefotos.com/e579aa391aa713e4edb4d5ba822616a9o.jpg[/t] The meals in this picture are "veal with peas, potatoes and Italian sauce" and "Greek chicken and rice" Other than that, my mom used to bring these "super-nutritive non-perishable" meals they make at this research center and give out to poor families, homeless people, or during floods or other natural disasters. Basically a big bag of dehydrated ready-to-cook lentil stew with dried vegetables and powdered vitamins and such, just add hot water. Tasted real good.
To the post above mine, how long would those rations typically last? A day or two?
To the post above mine, how long would those rations typically last? A day or two?
It's marked one day but most stretch it to two during tours apparently or at least you're left with a load of unused extra snacks/instant soup after a couple days
Where can I get some of these? Besides serving in the army still a bit too young too do so unless they draft kids.
If you can find an army surplus store they'll almost certainly sell these. I got a chicken pesto MRE but I'm saving it for if and when I have nothing else to eat in the house.
Are MREs expensive/er than normal food Would be pretty cool to find a couple I like and eat them during lunch break at school or something like that
Do MRE's not have any detrimental aspects? Would it be okay to eat them for prolonged periods of time, or not? IE are they high in bad shit such as sodium, fats, etc.
Most of them are for keeping you alive during disasters or keeping you going during combat so I'd say they're not bad for you (unless you're eating those gross russian canned goods) but there's probably a vitamin or two you're missing Fresh vegetables should still be a part of your daily menu!
i always wanted to try out a bunch of different MREs from the company with the best rep, then get a couple of crates of them. food, at any time, anywhere. just need a box cutter.
Midnight Air Force chow yo
Those are def. McDonalds hash browns, yes?
Those are def. McDonalds hash browns, yes?
Couldn't be, the air force bases here in australia have food that looks alot like that, tastes good.
Where can I get some of these? Besides serving in the army still a bit too young too do so unless they draft kids.
like Ekalektik_1 said army surplus store and you can find them on ebay.
If you get a bunch, Mix the Ravioli with crushed Crackers and cheese, throw in tobasco sauce, and viola! My favorite was Chili Mac. Always came with skittles..
I like eating MREs as fairly durable and long-lasting emergency snacks because I live in an area that lacks any form of natural disaster outside of snow Thanks again for sending them to me freem
Those are def. McDonalds hash browns, yes?
Despite popular belief, no. Just asked one of my bros in services, and he confirmed that.
Any MRE sandwiches are a no no for me, however I did enjoy some AWESOME Mac and cheese chili with Orange juice.
