Do MRE's not have any detrimental aspects? Would it be okay to eat them for prolonged periods of time, or not? IE are they high in bad shit such as sodium, fats, etc.
loaded with salt, when I ate nothing but MREs for six months it was because Katrina had totally boned everything in and around my city for miles

also you guys all know about MRE bombs, right? a nearly empty bottle of water and an MRE heater will make an explosion loud enough to set off car alarms. have about an inch of water in the bottom of the bottle, roll up the heater and stick it in the mouth of the bottle so it stays in place, put the cap on, shake it up, and throw it

powerade bottles or those resealable Vault cans work really well

If you plan on getting ripped or hiking across deserts they shouldn't be too bad
Probably not so great if you breathe through your mouth though
My uncle somehow got MREs mailed to his house instead of the ramen he ordered, so for a month in middle school all I ate were MREs... gained 20 pounds in 1 month like a boss
In other news, this reminds me of an old DOD:S skin I made
Most of them are for keeping you alive during disasters or keeping you going during combat so I'd say they're not bad for you (unless you're eating those gross russian canned goods) but there's probably a vitamin or two you're missing
Fresh vegetables should still be a part of your daily menu!
The russian ones from what I've heard are actually good if you're expected to have a lot of physical work to be done. They look horrendous but apparently taste pretty good and aren't that unbalanced.
Trust the russians to make a meal fit to fuel communism.
I can't find a proper picture of an Israeli MRE, but here are the contents of an Israeli field ration:
"The Israeli "battle ration" (Manot Krav) is designed to be shared by four soldiers. It contains: two cans of processed beef, two large or 4 small cans of tuna, canned olives, a can of sweet corn, a can of pickled cucumbers, 2 cans of halva spread or chocolate-halva spread, a can of nuts, dried fruit, candy, jam, fruit flavored drink powder, coffee, tea, sugar, salt, and bread or matzoh crackers. There is also an "ambush pack" of candy and high-energy protein bars.
In 2008, Israel introduced a new field ration to supplement the traditional Manot Krav. Unlike previous rations, the new Battle Ration consists of individual, self-heating, ready-to-eat meals packed inside plastic-aluminum trays. They are designed to be carried and used by infantry troops for up to 24 hours, until regular supply lines can be established. Ten menus are available, including chicken, turkey and kebab; each meal pack is supplemented with dry salami, dried fruit, tuna, halva, sweet roll, and preserved dinner rolls."
Out of all of these, Tuna is definitely the best one, Burnt Tuna is amazing if you can pull it off.
The Halva spread is also amazing in my opinion, but some people really don't like it. From what I've seen, people usually react to halva with a 50-50 split between "disgusting" and "amazing".
I haven't tried any of the MRE's though.
Does anyone know where I can buy the MRE in this video?

Tried the infamous Chili Mac today! It was pretty good, especially when you a bit of Jalapeno cheese spread. The crackers and spread were delicious. Cornbread was alright. Peach mango applesauce was pretty gross though.

I also have a Chicken with Noodles and Vegetables MRE right here.
I went to NASA on a fieldtrip
& they gave all of us packaged
"astronaut icecream"
WAS HARD AS ROCKS.
Almost broke my teeth out -.-
Chicken with Noodles was pretty kick-ass overall.

Really people would fight for them, the one bad thing is the chicken gets old. I mean they all do overtime but that one goes faster.

I never said there was anything wrong with them, just when you eat them all the time they get boring.

i've been looking to buy some manot kravs for a friend who is bonkers for the IDF any tips on where i can buy them?
I know this thread is practically ancient but considering the thread still exists and its still pretty relevant, I kinda want to bump to ask... I got a Spaghetti and Meatballs MRE from a military surplus store a couple months back that was from 2012. How long do these things "stay good" for?

The main course stays good at least for a while, idk about the candies or gummies they sometimes have along with it though. I still eat some MRE's from 2007, although you definitely should smell and look at the food so you don't die or anything.
