Find a guy on the football team that doesn't seem like a complete douche. Talk to him. Become really good friends. He'll start inviting you to stuff. Start talking to cheerleaders and there you go.
Honestly that's how I did it, plus playing with them on Xbox Live.. (they play it religiously here for some reason.) It's like I'm part of the football team, without playing football. It works, I swear.

For cologne: Burberry Sport (You can buy this shit at walmart and it's still great)
Seriously, H&M is the best kept secret. Prices rival AE/Hollister/Abercrombie and the fashion factor is way higher. Not to mention barely any of their clothes have a label on them. Everything is extremely stylish and high end.

Another one of these threads, agh, well, I'll give what I have to say anyway.
There is no such thing as popularity, what you think is popularity is a stereotype and it is not real. There is no such thing as one popular person, what "popularity" actually is, is this, groups of friends that are strongly bonded together and have many people in it.
"Jocks" are not popular, almost everyone is a "jock" in school. There are so many "jocks" that they socialize with everyone because they have to, that's why they're perceived as popular.
Just be yourself. If you're [b]actually[/b] uncomfortable with your life, body, or social skills, work on fixing them. Don't change yourself to be like everyone else because you want to have many "friends" like everyone else. Just be yourself, that's all I have to say.

Popularity is good, it's not that superficial, you know. Most jobs require you to have leadership and initiative qualities for you to advance in it, which are qualities you use to make friends more easily.
