An addendum: You do not want to be popular. Having a lot of acquaintances is well enough but you should always keep a closer handful of friends. People that are "popular" often have stuff handed to them, or have rich daddies or whatever, and they fail to amount to much. They do not know hardship, or how to work. The hardest thing many of the kids at my school have to do is decide which Bentley they want to drive to school. Have a large number of acquaintances. Make connections. Don't lose yourself along the way. Do you play an instrument? There are so many different types of people you could get involved with any number of groups. I think I have a decent insight into this. I would be considered in the "popular" group at my school. But I am different. I don't come from an upper class family. Without heavy financial aid I wouldn't even be there. I am a part of the crowd I am in because I play baseball which is what all of them play, and I am on student council. They are all dickheads to the other kids that are not in their group. I am not. I get it.

As a once popular person I would say that popularity is overrated, and all it does is leave you with a big, fat ego that's really fucking hard to shake. Yeah, it's nice being popular, but as long as you have connections through anyone (Hell, if any of your family has powerful connections you're good) you'll be alright.
