Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace 10/10 Absolutely incredible dialogue, diverse and engaging story and beautiful cinematography. Also portrayals by great and genius characters like little Anakin and Jar Jar Binks, which show a much more human side of Darth Vader. Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones 9.5/10 Not as good as the Phantom menace in my opinion, I really really like Hayden Christiansen as an actor, his roles are always spot on the dialogue is top-notch. Plus all the CGI was really good. Like in Episode I, I really liked the romance subplot between Anakin and Padme because it shows a much better side of Vader than the dumb black robot thing we see in the sequel trilogy. Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith 8.5/10 Easily the weakest of the trilogy, I didn't like the plot as much as the other two movies. I felt like they made Darth Vader in a cheap way and kind of brushed over his story. Also it made me angry to see Anakin hurt Padme like that. I felt like the Jedi should have won the match between the masters and Darth Sidious. The space battles were okay but nothing compared to the final battle over Naboo in Episode I. Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope 6.5/10 I don't really understand where Lucas was going with the sequel trilogy. All the CGI seemed really dated, and the characters seemed less fluid than I,II, and III. The cinematography was downright bad and the dialogue was totally inferior to I,II, and III. From the unique and powerful Anakin Skywalker to a big bumbling black droid with a messed up voice? Lame Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back 4.5/10 Easily the worst out of the Star Wars movies. I didn't like Han Solo's seriousness here compared to his true character like in Star Wars Kinect's Han Solo song. Also I feel like nothing important happened and it just continued all the bad dialogue and visual effects of episode IV. Seriously were these movies made in the 80s or something? This movie was so bad that I'm not even going to watch Episode VI
I just had an aneurysm.
i've never finished a single star wars movie. i don't think i'm missing out at all
I've never even started a Star Wars movie. [editline]30th August 2013[/editline] No wait I think I saw The Phantom Menace in the cinema lol
I watched IV, didn't really appeal to me. Not saying it was bad but that genre? Nah. Same with Space Odyssey, it drags on too long.
-The cinematography is amazing most of the time, dude. You pretty much could have picked any shot from The Master.
The Master imo deserved about 5 oscars (best director/actor/supporting actor/cinematography and original screenplay) so great. One of the best of last year for sure. Elysium- 2/5 Huge disappointment coming from the guy who made District 9. This film is cheesy, ham-fisted, silly. Jodie Foster was terrible (not helped by fucking terrible dialogue and characterisation). The action scenes were a total step down from District 9- overused slowmotion, too much shakycam, can hardly see what's going on. Elysium was portrayed really badly, so cheesy and overplayed. The film was try-hard and painfully obvious with its message without really thinking about concequence or character development. Jodie Foster was pretty much just inherently evil, the boss of that company who works on earth but is from Elysium was a joke. Basically the only good things about this film were the special effects and Sharlto Copley's performance. You're Next- 3/5 a bit diappointed tbh, but at the same time I had fun. I would have done the film differently. The first hour or so is pretty mediocre/borderline sucky at times but the last 20 minutes or so are amazing. Imo the film should have changed its tone a bit and been a bit more campy/fun from the beginning- make the violence a bit more over the top, the dialogue a bit more deliberately cheesy maybe (instead of just plain bad at times). That'd make the end a lot more fun and better as well as improve the majority of the movie. There were hints that the film was trying to have fun but imo it took itself too seriously. I did love how the film occasionally felt like a bit of a throwback to 80s/90s horror films and tied to what I said before, it would have been better if they maybe played on it a bit more. Also when the film took a tonal shift to awesome, I loved how the kinda rubbish, far overused soundtrack from most of the film turned into a total John Carpenter score. And the ending was just great, had a lot of fun at the end. When [sp]Erin blended that dude's face[/sp] I absolutely couldn't stop laughing. It was so great. [editline]30th August 2013[/editline] Erin was a really awesome character tho, loved her.

The first time I saw it I felt a little empty; just as with A Serious Man, I didn't get it. I recently watched it a second time and it all started coming to me: the thematic connections, the characters, the symbolism, the everything. I thought it was straightforward minimalism at first due to the straightforward plot, but then I realized how it's just open-ended enough for a person to interpret the density of this film. I really regret not watching this sooner. Chigurh is my favorite villain in a long, long time. I think my only real uncertainty about the film is how they handled the Sheriff's inner-struggle, which is a real shame because Tommy Lee-Jones was perfect for the role and did as good a job one could with what he had. How could a watcher concern himself about some guy's struggle, expressed in relaxed dialogues and monologues, with the unknown when the known was just much more interesting. His story arc was really deflating throughout and made for a little bit of a disappointment at the end. Also, not really a complaint here, the film doesn't manipulate the usual sort of emotions that other films do so besides the thrill factor, a lot of the entertainment value was in thinking and interpreting the film and some of its ambiguities. I never emotionally attached the characters, but I did feel [sp]robbed or betrayed when the main-guy dies[/sp] It's hard to give the film a rating because everything is so ambitious and well-crafted, except for one glaring flaw that I can't reconcile with. It also isn't nearly as immediately gratifying as some other films I've watched, but it's stuck to me longer than most. It's difficult to compare to the other films I've rated in here as well, so: 8.5 - 9.5/10 (Probably somewhere closer to 9.2) [editline]30th August 2013[/editline] Also agreed, The Master is great.

[sp]When she puts that blender on his head omg i died[/sp]
Now You See Me - 3/5 Didn't like the fact that [sp]they explained Magic with pretty much Magic.[/sp]
Evil Dead (2013) - 5.5/10 Cool practical effects. That's it.
Evil Dead (2013) - 5.5/10 Cool practical effects. That's it.
is it even comparable to the original? none of my friends know of it :suicide:
The new evil dead owned
kick butte 2 - dumb, underwhelming, feels written by a 14 year old. [editline]31st August 2013[/editline]
Evil Dead (2013) - 5.5/10 Cool practical effects. That's it.
it was it's own solid movie. obv it doesnt stand up to the original let alone 2, nothing can. but it did a pretty good job. the main problem was that it was missing any heart and playfulness. i missed how the deadites fucked with people and laughed all the time.
Well, that's why I gave it that rating. It's an alright movie, but it missed the 'flair' the others had like you mentioned.
Children of Men - 10/10. This is still one of my favorite movies of all time.
kick butte 2 - dumb, underwhelming, feels written by a 14 year old.
was all the comedy just consisted of the little girl cursing
Panic Room - 6.5/10 i dunno, it just dragged on for too long
was all the comedy just consisted of the little girl cursing
not really. most of the movie wasnt even about hitgirl. and her plot line was really offensive to boot, and not in the way you'd expect. it was just all ready crude and obvious. at least 4 people vomited and diarrhea'd simultaneously. if that's any indication of the movie. [editline]1st September 2013[/editline] i loved the first movie, but this is 10 massive steps down on all fronts. but that's what happens when you replace the writer and director.
Falling Down - I actually felt a few emotions, so I liked it alot/10
Borgman - 7.5/10 A disturbing dark thriller comedy about a homeless guy who gets allowed to stay at a rich family house but has to stay under the radar. From there things start to get very psychological for the people in the house and the whole movie long there's exponential change going on where at some point near the end I personally was just amazed at how so much had changed but the tone was still remained solid and intact. The acting was good, especially liked Jan Bijvoet who plays the character Borgman perfectly. might just be the very first dutch movie that i truly loved watching.
Catch me if you can 7.5/10 I enjoyed it but it's kinda forgettable.
Patlabor: The Movie 8/10 Another great movie by Mamoru Oshii
Watching some of Mark Kermode's favourites of this year: Love is all you Need Mr Bond is hanging out in Italy and chilling with his fruit business. Quite a heartfelt romantic drama, authentic and well worth my time. Pretty on the outside and the in, and not the empty generic crap that might be expected. Pierce Brosnan is at it again, he may be old but he's very much Brosnan as he always is. Added are details of life that ordinary romantic stories miss. No Been meaning to see it for a long while. It's absolutely brilliant, I'm talking historically significant, high-tier goodness. Concerning things in the Chilean elections during the 80s and it's filmed on a roll of really drab film. Looks like a hi8 cam, but feels raw. The entire film is simply one of the very best politically significant films in a good while. It's everything Argo is not, I mean this. You may mock, but while I appreciate Mr Affleck's finesse, he didn't do to me anywhere close to what this did. It brought me humanity in bucketloads, it brought a real fear for life... Truly a dynamite film and shoots VERY high to the top, doesn't beat Before Midnight but yes this is real good. The lead performance, many should have seen him before. Rarely these days do actors truly make the film what it is, and here is one fine example of a lead actor lifting a film to new heights single-handedly. [editline]31st August 2013[/editline] Also started watching Breaking Bad so good.
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones 3/10 Bad acting, uninteresting story and characters (very bland). But it had some funny moments and the action scenes and SFX was good. Basically it's a movie for teenage girls, like twilight. According to my sister it's nothing like the book (I haven't read it), they even changed the ending and other important parts! This basically sums it up: "Every moviegoer will have his own breaking point, when The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones surpasses the mundane and enters the ridiculous."
Cuckoo's Nest. wow that ending destroyed the whole movie for me no thanks i can't even rate it now
Cuckoo's Nest. wow that ending destroyed the whole movie for me no thanks i can't even rate it now
I hope you mean destroyed in a good way
I hope you mean destroyed in a good way
not at all, [sp]killing him off completely ruined the movie for me, i shed a tear when they hugged then i just felt disgusted afterwards at chief[/sp]
Watched Super, really liked it. I will never be able to shut up when people talk about Kick-Ass now.
Watched American Psycho last night A bit odd, and a lot good. It was pretty interesting to watch, but I had a lot of fun watching it just because it was so goofy and "dark" at the same time I guess. I think it was pretty well done personally. And I'm sure it has been said before, but seeing Bale play a character named Bateman, one letter off of another movie character he played, made me smirk a bit for whatever reason :v: Also, they went to a new restaurant every 3 minutes so I think I got a feel for every restaurant I could ever encounter now, lovely. Fantastic movie though.
