Rise of the Guardians. Really pleasantly surprised by this one, and it's one of the rare cases when I can say it's a wonderful film and mean it literally. Great concept, strong acting, and a really delightful presentation. I have some minor nitpicks with the pacing but overall it was a remarkably good family film. EDIT: I suppose they owe the concept to a series of books; didn't know that. Still, cool idea.
i missed how the deadites fucked with people and laughed all the time.
with the exception of the laughing, [sp]mia[/sp] probably fucked with them the most. also the whole [sp]self-mutilation[/sp] was more of a mind-fucking than anything else. still a great movie imo the music is great as well, your typical thriller music but with like a super satanic chorus as well. The Warriors - I heard a lot of good things about this 70s film so I decided to watch it tonight. Boy, it has not aged well. While the premise itself is interesting (city gangs quarrel with the Warriors gang after being falsely accused of murdering someone who was going to unite everyone), it was so poorly done. It had cliches in abundance which I'd normally forgive, but they became far too distracting as they deviated from the plot; laughably terrible acting/line delivery which was also distracting. The comic-esque presentation/design was irrelevant and a half-assed attempt at plot segmentation. I expected the whole "Warriors, come out to play" scene to be a climatic event especially due to its cultural impact but it turned out to be a bad actor repeating the lines 5 times while the Warriors stood there with dumb fucking faces. Then the final scene was just disappointing. In fact, the entire film is just loaded with disappointments (lmao a certain scene in which a Warrior is thrown into the subway is totally ignored and forgotten by the rest of the gang). Overall, the film desperately attempted to appeal to that current generation and succeeded. Looking back though, it's an awful film made even worse with age.
Watched American Psycho last night A bit odd, and a lot good. It was pretty interesting to watch, but I had a lot of fun watching it just because it was so goofy and "dark" at the same time I guess. I think it was pretty well done personally. And I'm sure it has been said before, but seeing Bale play a character named Bateman, one letter off of another movie character he played, made me smirk a bit for whatever reason :v: Also, they went to a new restaurant every 3 minutes so I think I got a feel for every restaurant I could ever encounter now, lovely. Fantastic movie though.
If you liked it, you should really read the book, it really shows how much of a real psychopath he is, there are really no restrictions on what he does and it goes into superb amounts of details with all of the murder scenes, which there are many many more of. The book really shows how long he's been doing all of it and emphasizes the satire a lot more.

i watched monster's university with my dad yesterday. i thought "well we're high this should be funny" and i loved the original film but it dragged on a bit. i enjoyed a lot of it, the characters were good but by the time we got to the most climatic parts i was falling asleep (i hadn't slept the night before). despite all the roaring i still kept drifting off. i wouldn't watch it again unless it was on tv and there was nothing else on but i think it's worth a watch if you've got some weed and some spare time.
Tango & Cash 6/10 When I first heard about this movie I was enthralled; an '80s buddy-cop action comedy starring Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell? I like all of those words! Then the movie started up and I got even more pumped. I was introduced to Jack Palance as a snarling villain with the enjoyable James Hong at his side. Harold Faltermeyer delivered a badass synth soundtrack. Stallone played against type as a straight-laced, suit-wearing cop and Russell played a mulleted, boisterous loudmouth (i.e. Jack Burton). We are introduced to Tango (Stallone) as he stops a tanker truck filled with cocaine on a border run by blocking the road and shooting it until the panicked drivers slam on the brakes and fly out the windshield. Next we meet Cash (Russell) as he is attacked in his humble abode; after shooting the assailant with a gun hidden in his boot, they proceed to a car chase in a parking garage with more destruction than Highlander. All the while, a shady kingpin (Palance) plots to bring down the two best lawmen in LA. And then the movie got weird. Remember when I said that this movie sounded like a combination of all the things I liked? Well, this movie feels like someone took all the cliches and scenes that he liked in 80s movies and threw them in a pile. The snarky cops who hate each other and sling insults but learn to work together, framed good guys clearing their names, prison brawls, prison breaks, the sleazy nightclub, cross-dressing disguises, not-having-sex-but-it-sounds-like-it scene, the hooker with a heart of gold, a monster-truck rally, gadget-building nerdy scientist friend, goons from all nationalities, villain with a fondness for pets... it's all in here. Unfortunately, it's far too much, and very little of it is executed well. Russell and Stallone are pretty great, but they don't have very much chemistry as they constantly go back-and-forth. The villain is barely developed. Honestly, this movie feels almost like Black Dynamite rather than a legitimate movie of the time. I like to describe the quality/entertainment of movies in a linear way. There are good movies (enjoyable), bad movies (not enjoyable), good-bad movies (enjoyable), and terrible movies (not enjoyable). Tango & Cash sprints right past good but never really finds solid footing in cheesy good-bad land. If you already are a fan of it's many components then feel free to give it a look-see, but it's not all that great. But seriously, listen to that soundtrack. Strange Wilderness 8/10 It's a really dumb movie but it's pretty funny. It's gotten a lot of shit but I love it. Has a lot of those kind of actors that are known for smaller comedy roles so it works well. Idk it's not really the kind of movie you look into, I just laugh every time.
Cabin in the Woods 9/10
Cabin in the Woods 9/10
the ending was so lame though, nothing really happened
the end of Cabin In The Woods was the best part?? It was a very smart film overall. one of my favourites last year. Great homage to and critique of horror imo.
the end of Cabin In The Woods was the best part?? It was a very smart film overall. one of my favourites last year. Great homage to and critique of horror imo.
but it ended so abruptly and stupid, it would really benefit of going more in-depth at the end
but it ended so abruptly and stupid, it would really benefit of going more in-depth at the end
The ending was appropriate.
The ending was appropriate.
why? you never know what happened to anything
why? you never know what happened to anything
Um the world ends? That's all you need to know.
Um the world ends? That's all you need to know.
the world ends [sp]by some hand coming up from the ground and slapping the camera? what?[/sp] while ago since i saw it now though, but i thought the end was really weak
the world ends [sp]by some hand coming up from the ground and slapping the camera? what?[/sp]
Are you some kind of idiot?
the ending was so lame though, nothing really happened
err... did you walk out when the redhead was being beaten on the pier or something?
its [sp]those fuckin god things that people in literally every horror movie are sacrificed for but the ritual wasn't completed this time. so the gods were angry and destroyed earth.[/sp] how does that leave it open ended at all it literally [sp]DESTROYS THE WORLD [/sp] [editline]1st September 2013[/editline] And yeah how can you say nothing happened in the last act, its where everything goes crazy and its exciting as fuck to watch and great fun. Cos lots of shit is happening. Its hardly a non-event.
the world ends [sp]by some hand coming up from the ground and slapping the camera? what?[/sp] while ago since i saw it now though, but i thought the end was really weak
are you serious? did you not understand it at all or something? [sp]the whole movie was about the teens being a sacrifice to higher beings in order to appease them and prevent them from wreaking havok on the world. the sacrifice wasn't made because the teens won, thus the 'gods' got pissed and came out of dormancy. how is that out of nowhere? the ending fucking owned. it was the least weak part of the movie[/sp]
err... did you walk out when the redhead was being beaten on the pier or something?
Might need to rewatch it, don't remember much. They could at least have shown the destruction/aftermath
but the ending was a punchline. You dont drag it out after delivering the punchline or it loses impact. And it didn't need to show anything more than it did, it was completely obvious what happened
They could have done it T3 style ending, that was marvellous
I totally forgot Terminator 3 even existed I must have repressed it from my memory.
Might need to rewatch it, don't remember much. They could at least have shown the destruction/aftermath
why... what would be the point? [sp]all the main characters died instantly in the actual ending.[/sp] is there any point to showing more? have you ever heard of things being implied rather than shown? i cant believe i even have to say this stuff its not even movies 101 its like... literally anything 101.
It wasn't terrible imo. Two is by far the best though
They could have done it T3 style ending, that was marvellous
oooohh i see the problem (t3 was horrible and the worst of the terminator franchise) [editline]1st September 2013[/editline] oh man getting rated dumb by someone who liked terminator 3 really tickles my funny bone
T3's ending was basically Skynet launching the missiles with a ~dramatic~ view of the Earth being shown so we can see the detonations. And then a dumb monologue. What would they even show in Cabin? We didn't need to see anything else.
