Are any of the riddick films anything more than shit? They've gotta have a fanbase somewhere for having so many films.
I thought they were all either okay or above average.
Perks of being a wallflower
High school kid with no mates gets a helping hand from 2 seniors and they become his world. Crushes, house parties and school crap are the order of the day. Emma Watson plays it by numbers but fits quite well into a film of this style as does the other 2 male leads.
I've been putting this one off because many said it was a hipster film trying to capture the vibe of films like Breakfast club with its profound dialog and overly self aware characters. This could be a valid crit against this film but despite that it works. What is this film about? A statement about fleeting youth? The age of self discovery and that moment you can never live again because you can't live the moment twice? The effects of abuse? It depends what you personally take from it really.
Some say after watching it they sit in silence for half an hour thinking about what they've just watched and some take it all a bit too much to heart. I was still thinking about it a day or 2 later and I've no idea why, something must have touched me so I'm going to say this is a great film.
Upstream colour.
Intriguing sci fi concept done pretty well for the first half hour - 45 mins, then after that the quirky romance showed up and the pretentiousness became overwhelming i completely lost interest.
The underlying sci fi story was quite cool, but the characters' dialogue ruined it for me.
Cinematography and sound design were both amazing.

Wouldn't call it shit, but I just watched this expecting mindfuckery and I got a lot of visceral film wankery instead; feels a bit disappointing.
Rang De Basanti - 9/10
A fantastic drama about Indian college students recruited to act in a film about revolutionaries in the days of the British Raj and their radicalisation after government corruption leads to the death of one of their friends. The slow pacing might not be for everyone; most of the film is a fairly light hearted story about their acting and the drama only comes toward the end, but for me this only helps the final hour to hit harder. The soundtrack is excellent to boot.
3 Idiots - 9/10
Aamir Khan plays your typical 'free spirit who just won't play by the rules' character in this story of three students' years at engineering college. Lots of laughs, lots of emotional scenes and the All is Well song just won't get out of my head. My only real complaint is that the second musical number is a bit crap.
Udaan - 8/10
Another great drama about a student sent back to live with his abusive and overbearing father after being kicked out of boarding school. It's well written and well acted all round; the dad's a bastard til the end yet you can still feel a little sympathy for him, and his son's despair towards the end of the film is really portrayed well.
A Wednesday - 6/10
A respectable terror-threat thriller but nothing too memorable. It stays engaging but there's not a lot of payoff. The cinematography seems to constantly think it's showing an action scene even when little is happening which gets grating after a while, and the attempt to show the antagonist as an everyman pushed too far doesn't make a lot of sense given his abilties.
Okaruto - 6/10
A J-horror from the director of Noroi which takes a similar documentary style, investigating supernatural phenomena behind a random knife attack. It actually does a good job as a documentary, but as a horror film it's not that impressive. There's nothing of the menacing atmosphere of Noroi, the CG effects are weak and the ending [sp]neon jellyfish disco hell[/sp] is so unintentionally hilarious that it kind of ruined it for me.
Black Book (2006)
Paul Verhooven directs a resitance wartime drama/thriller about a Jewish girl trying to survive the horrors of war. Lines become blurred and the who's who gets a bit muddy until the end. Its a great film in Dutch language and the leading lady does a fantastic job. It's a little over long but overall it kept me hooked in right to the end. Theres some German actors who have played Nazi's before, they must get tired of these roles. Spoiler> [sp] Germany lost the war[/sp] :(
world war z - 6/10
wasn't bad but coulda been better
let's see how the sequel turns up. and now to read the book, which i know will be massively superior.
The Good, The Bad, The Weird- 5/5
Really loved this. A fantastic South Korean Western film, obviously a homage to Leone's classic, as well as many other Westerns, and plays off American tropes. One of the best Westerns I've ever seen. (not that I watch a whole lot)
It's funny, smart, violent, and keeps taking turns and just keeps giving. It's great fun to watch. Fantastic direction by Jee-Woon, I'll be looking into his stuff more- I Saw The Devil has been on my watchlist for a while and I'll be watching it in the next few days I reckon. The action was brilliant, they blend both grit and comedic violence to create something quite special to watch, and there isn't a moment where it feels like the tone isn't right- something very, very hard to do with action-comedy stuff, I feel. (most recently, see Kick Ass 2. Tone was fucking everywhere and it made it very messy and awkward. Am I meant to laugh? Be disgusted? Really I'm just cringing) The massive shootout in the marketplace was just outstanding, so many memorable moments. Also, the squibs are awesome. I love squibs. The scene where [sp]The Bad is slowly cutting down Man-Gil, it was so dark especially coming between two reasonably comedic scenes, but it worked so well. Gritty and didn't shy away at all but it was great[/sp] It really made me realise how he could go from a comedy action film to a supposedly terrifying serial killer film.
Also loved the set design, and it was another great performance from Kang-ho Song. Highly recommend this film if you're looking for something a bit different and want a hugely fun action flick that isn't stupid as hell.

If you read the book I think you could kinda see how making a movie about it would be strange to work with.

Anyone have some decent comedies besides the usual ones everyone says? Haven't seen a good comedy in forever
Ip Man
Wow that was fucking good. Beautiful film with very somber parts but also exciting parts. And the fighting was kick-ass! Definitely would recommend to friends. Probably one of the, if not the best martial arts movie I've ever seen
im kinda interested in Riddick I guess but the plot looks 100% the same as Pitch Black
According to the one review I read, it essentially is, just with a two teams of bounty hunters trying to take Riddick out.
Even so, I'm still interested in seeing it.
Now You See Me
6/10
Now You See Me
Not going to bold the title since I don't think the movie deserves it. Felt pretty mediocre to me. The plot felt pretentious and tried too hard to seem intelligent when it wasn't. All in all the movie felt hollow to me. The ending was also pretty dumb in my eyes. Definitely not the worst movie I've seen but I've seen a lot more movies better than this. I felt almost no connection with any of the characters, which is a very bad thing. For those who have the seen the movie and might get this joke, good, if not then don't worry about it.
"I could care less" about this movie
VHS 3/10
almost everything about this is terrible. the acting is bad, the writing is bad, the stories start ok most of the time but end up being not scary and overall stupid.
don't watch it.

Hot Rod is still not very well known, which is a shame. Give that a watch.
Since everyone's reviewing it now, Now You See Me
I'm not sure why this movie got so panned by the critics. It wasn't on the level of 'The Prestige' but I enjoyed it quite a bit. There were some pretty decent twists, some great effects and magic tricks, and some fairly strong performances. The only weak link was Mark Ruffalo for about...99% of the movie, through no fault of his acting but rather through his total lack of characterization beyond 'asshole.'

When you're going on a date, you put on a shirt, and you ride your bike, to the da-a-ate.
10 Years (2011) - 7/10.
A bunch of folks go to a 10 year high school reunion and realize they haven't grown up as much as they'd liked. Follows 10 characters around a reunion party and their reminiscing of things. My only real qualm is Channing Tatum's wife's acting I mean fuck.
A Soldier's Story (1984) - 7/10.
An African American officer investigates a murder in a racially charged situation in World War II.
Way too predictable but I loved how it was done. It was like watching a stage play.
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) - 4/10. This shit was bad man. Well the first hour was pretty good actually but then the characters, the splicing of sounds, the acting, it all got so fucking bad. Chase scenes completely devoid of suspense or interest from the actors, and there were three in a fucking row of it was ridiculous. The ending actually had me burst out into laughter instead of I guess being scary or something like they were going for. Special effects were neat for one scene though.
Iron man 3
I don't know why i watched it all. 6/10. Though some of it was funny, most of the humour didn't work. The ending was pretty crap too. Decent action and not a terrible story though.

Literally watching this right now. I'm At the third story.
I watched VHS 2 first, cause it was apparently supposed to be better(??) than the first one...
Chronicle - 8/10
I was looking for some Blurays to pick up and after a friend suggested this I decided to get it even though I wasn't sure about it.
I was very surprised about how good it was to be honest. I really enjoyed it and the way the movie slowly ramped up to some crazy shit really worked well.
Naked Gun - 8.5/10
Haven't watched it in 10 years and my humour was very different from back then.
I really prefer Airplane! over this one, but nonetheless a really great movie.

Now you see me was the biggest fuck-you a movie has ever given me
I thought the biggets let down was the fact that the magic tricks were essentially impossible to do in real life. There is no "how did they do that?" mystery behind anything, because most of them are obviously bogus. That's what makes magic tricks interesting in the first place and they took that element away.
Kick-Ass 2: 9/10
I liked it a lot, some scenes were fucking amazing, like when [sp]Mother Russia kills the cops[/sp]. Some scenes draged a lot, and the ending felt a bit rushed, but it was a great movie.
Tokyo godfathers
Such a good movie with great animation. I couldn't stop laughing at the over-the-top facial expressions.
8/10
Hot Rod is still not very well known, which is a shame. Give that a watch.
I love this movie so much, has charm to it as well as being a silly comedy
VHS - shit/10, except for the 'Amateur Night' story, which was arguably the best one and I give a 5/10
VHS 2 - alsoshit/10
So yeah, don't bother watching these.
I really like the VHS films, maybe I have a soft spot for low budget horror that isn't totally fucking crap and unoriginal like Paranormal Activity.
I dunno.
The concept of some of the stories was kinda neat I admit. But jesus christ was the acting terribad in pretty much all of them.
VHS was really bad. The last tape, the halloween one I think, was pretty creative but still bad. The one with the couple on vacation was the worst thing ever, there were so many opportunities squandered in that story.
