Shooter 6/10 good film until the ending which I thought wasn't that great
Huh. I've only seen the theatrical cut, and while I did like the film, it's not very good at all.
Gotta check that out.
It didn't add that much really, it's still mostly the same film as it was before.
aka awesome
The Man From Nowhere 9/10
It's kinda like Taken but better in every way.
I dunno, it was a fun film and all but I really don't think the film was that good. Some good action scenes (last big one was great though), hateable villains but the actors and writing were bland to me. Funny thing though, most other Koreans I know prefer Taken and most other non-Koreans really like The Man From Nowhere better V:v:V

Grave of the Fireflies - 8/10
(never watching this again)
Now I wanna know why.

Because it's very sad to a lot of people. Your mileage may vary.

Kinda how some people don't want to watch Requiem for a Dream again. It's emotionally draining and to most, they just don't want to experience it again.
grave of the fireflies was not nearly as sad as people say it is
I was depressed one time and I thought it was a good idea to watch Grave of the Fireflies while I was quite down. It was a huge mistake. A pretty good watch, although I agree on never watching it again.

This. I thought it was too predictable to have much impact.

I loved it for amazing asian martial fights. I haven't seen even one western film that could be on par with hand-to-hand combat in movies with Asians. I love these over the top fights.

Watch 5 centimeters per second. That should cheer you up!
The Big Lebowski.
I honestly don't know what to rate this. It feels like the movie's missing another hour or so, there's NO fucking closure at all (which annoys me) but I still really enjoyed it. The jokes are generally good, the part where Walter smashes the car was appropriately awkward and hilarious and the dialogue (while having the direction of a drunk) is written well enough to keep my attention.

aka 10/10
End of Watch, 7/10
My emotions can be summed up by ":/"
The Way Way Back
This is a movie about awkward people and surprise surprise that makes it pretty awkward to watch. Despite that it does have some good dramatic and comedic moments with decent likeable characters. Not the best movie I've ever seen but it was fairly enjoyable.
big lebowski owns on many levels
Speaking of the Coen brothers I just watched Barton Fink. One of their best films, definitely. Solid 5/5 (I feel like I've been chucking around the 5 stars recently but I've watched a bunch of fantastic films. 4 Coen brother films. All 5 stars. Imo they are some of the best filmmakers ever.)
of their best screenplays. Very strong and laden with symbolism and themes. (Charlie is the devil and the hotel is hell; the noir detectives are Axis powers oppressing the Jewish Fink (worth noting the film is set in the 40's); commentary on both Hollywood and writers' attitudes towards each other and the industries, theatre/film etc. I only picked this up on the first viewing as well. I look forward to watching this over and over, discovering more and more. Aside a deep screenplay I absolutely loved the dialogue too. It was so great and all the characters were perfectly cast and acted. Turturro was just fantastic in the lead as a slightly neurotic and shy writer who thinks he has a lot to say. But maybe he doesn't. I think he's a bit of a pseudo-intellectual, personally.
Goodman owned the role of Charlie just completely and plays both sides perfectly.
And the producer dude was brilliant (not the fat one- the slightly younger fast talking noir type guy), just loved how quick and punchy his dialogue and delivery was, especially on the phone. So great.
Aside that I definitely noticed an influence from William Faulker on Mayhew, maybe some Fitzgerald- an author moving to Hollywood to write, struggling with a big alcohol problem (Fitzgerald), hell the actor even looked like Faulker. Also on the front door of Mayhew's apartment I'm pretty sure it says the film he's working on was Slave Ship? Or something similar. Faulker wrote the screenplay for the film Slave Ship. (not gonna pretend I knew that, just looked up his screenplays and noticed it was in the film :v:) Also Faulker's first screenplay was a wrestling film apparently.
I feel like there's more to the film in a commentary about writers but I dunno. And probably more war stuff. I'll write more as I think more I guess. And I'll watch this film some more definitely.

Weird. Everyone I know in person hates everything about it, but people I've talked to online says it's the greatest comedy ever made.

That movie is universally loved in like, my whole county.
I didn't actually love the big lebowski as much as some people here, but I'll admit it definitely has a certain charm to it, and I also couldn't stop laughing at some of the final scenes [sp]mainly the parking lot "fight" at the end, oh god[/sp]
TBL is probably tied with Office Space for my funniest comedy.
Sorry but I am not a fan of Quest for the Holy Grail
Its "lel randumb xD" sense of humor was not funny to me.
Any good criminal/heist type of movies? I've seen Heat and Reservoir Dogs. Or something like Drive, I love that movie.

how could you be so oblivious of it's massive cult following?

The Town
Collateral
Point Break
The Departed
City of God
Ocean's Eleven
Trick 'r Treat
Being an anthology movie, it's a mixed bag. The stories are pretty good for the most part, and surprisingly not as predictable as you might think. But they aren't really all that great overall. The movie still has a nice charm to it, the cinematography is great and the halloween atmosphere is spot on. 7/10
everyone to who ive shown Big lebowski has said its boring aswell
they'd rather have Hangover

The Possession 3/10
Imagine if "the Exorcist" was bad: this movie.
It's just terrible, too slow, badly edited and the scares are laughable. 1 hour and a half wasted. The lead actor was good in it tho.

I showed it to a group of friends and only 2 out of the 10 actively watched it. However, my next door neighbor is a massive fan.
Why is Mr Nobody suddenly being shown in theatres three years after its DVD release?

I like how there isn't really closure. You're thrown into this guy's life, see a (rather crazy) moment in it, then you leave his life.
I get it if most people in a high school film class never watched Young Frankenstein, Rocky Horror or This Is Spinal Tap but nobody ever hearing about those films is crazy. But I suppose that's what a film class in high school is for.
