Yeah I can't take Tatum seriously as an actor
Love Actually
I found most of the stories boring and predictable. Though I really enjoyed the story with Liam Neeson and his stepson. I thought the kid was really adorable and I really rooted for him towards the end. 6/10
Legend (Director's Cut) - 7/10
I liked this movie. I like the directors cut more however because it shows Ridley Scott's original vision of the film. The biggest thing here was the ending, where this will explain it
The biggest difference between the American Cut and the Director's Cut that will definitely cause the most discussion amongst LEGEND fans is the replacement of the "happy ending" with an ending that doesn't tie up all the loose ends. The new, bittersweet ending has Jack always promising to be there for Lili while she asks him if it will be all right for her to visit him again tomorrow. The tone and texture of their relationship has changed because of the events that they have survived in the story and now only time will tell if their relationship will continue to flourish. The ending is hopeful and sweet and sad all at the same time and much more in keeping with the overall tone of the Director's Cut.
Also kudos to Tim Curry, his performance was so good and so creepy
Side Effects - 4.5/5
Didn't go into it with much expectations, but definitely enjoyed the trip it took the viewer through. Great psychological thriller, will be disappointed if you're expecting a pseudo-documentary about pharmaceuticals.
I still think the twist in that movie was dumb. Still good overall though.
Naw, man. Tangled is seriously one of the best Disney movies in my opinion. Probably one of the biggest surprises ever for me.
man i gave it an 8/10, i.e. pretty great but not up to the standard of, say, up

i only just found out that crazy dude with the glasses is Gustavo Fring. :v:
Hostel - 6.8/10 - WHO WANTS THIS MOTHERFUCKER
went up at least a point because of this scene

too many cringy parts in this movie for me to handle though
and by cringy i mean really fucked up (achilles tendon scene)
To be honest, I liked it more than "Up".
I'm probably going to get a lot of shit for this, but I find "Up" to be a bit overrated. The opening to the movie is flawless. One of the best openings I've ever seen in a movie. The rest of the movie, though? I liked it, sure, but I wouldn't give it any more than a 7.5, to be honest.
I liked both Wall-E and Up, and it were highly emotional movies, but I liked Tangled more. It blended "cute" with "funny" and "sad" perfectly.
Monsters University 4/5
This was my third time watching it, so I really paid attention to the background characters and details. Pixar did a brilliant job with the little designs, worldbuilding, and visual gags. The voice acting is great - Crystal and Goodman (both in their early sixties) are fantastic as the young Mike and Sulley. The writing is snappy and the animation is beautiful, with tons of different colors, textures, and kinetic squash-and-stretch movement.
Monsters University is a prequel done right. There are plenty of gags and nods to the original, but it's not crammed full of references and characters. Even though you know how it 'ends' (Mike and Sulley work at Monsters, Inc as a scare team) it's fun to see it play out and the plot keeps you involved.

Hostel 3 is probably the best one. In a so bad it's good kind of way.
Because people mentioned it, I finally got around to watching Tangled.
And it's good. It's funny, the visuals are a new level of eye-porn and it's an overall really enjoyable movie.
Too bad Disney's new movie looks shit, though it does seem more heavily aimed at children.
I felt the same. I didn't completely understand it, but in a good way.
Thing is I understood it. I liked it but I don't know if I should have :v:

didn't the trailer for Tangled do the same thing and it turned out to be a fucking great movie

Things in this trailer that are not in the movie:
- Prehensile hair (that entire "fight" scene is gone)
- Pop music (all the songs are more traditional Disney ballads)
- Sarcastic/witty modern humor: "She's been grounded... like, FOREVER"
3/5 is a 6/10, that doesnt sound very high
and i thought it was pretty great, but oh well, opinions, opinions
3/5 sits around 6-7/10 for me and I'd put it as a 7. I liked the film.

even more than learning he was in The Usual Suspects too and he had hair
Latest film I watched was a very unknown (criminally so) Danish film that was released last year called Kauwboy. Caught it today at the Berwick film festival (was down as a film we did was screening at the youth competition- we came in the top 3 and although we didn't win first we won best actor which is cool) and it played after the youth shorts.
I give it a strong 4/5. Honestly one of the most emotional films I've ever seen. It's about a boy, about 11 or 12, dealing with an absent mother and an angry alcoholic father who doesn't care. He finds a baby bird who fell out its nest and takes care of it, raising it as a pet and his only friend to fill the void his parents left, while also dealing with puberty and first love. A beautifully original story with a really great performance from the little boy. You really feel the connection between Jojo (the boy) and Jack (The bird). The film really looked amazing and had a brilliant soundtrack to boot. It's a short film at only 81 minutes but it conveys more emotion than the majority of films I've seen in my life. I honestly was welling up near the end and there were a lot of people properly crying.
Definitely one of my favourite films of the year.
Well I am gonna watch Star Wars Despecialized Edition
I'll finally get to see what Star Wars looked like in 1977 in blu-ray quality. Reminds me when I had the 2006 DVDs, sadly I lost them and do not know where their location is.
As I pictured, perfect

While we're on the subject of Star Wars, here's some old photos from the original, most notably a picture of Stormtroper extras without helmets on:

Carrie Fisher was really hot back then
What's cool with the behind-the-scenes stuff is that, especially with the the first one, despite the massive scale they have no idea of the huge success and impact the movie was going to have. They're just having some fun doing some sci-fi movie.
Plus it's always neat to see them building and using the practical stuff.

Morvern Callar
Sweet little British film by the maker of We Need To Talk About Kevin. Not for everyone but something that held onto me throughout. Although plagues by quite a sadistic nature, the film delivers a central character during her search of where to explore her new found sickness. Even though she's sick and twisted, she is still quite a worthwhile endeavour. There really isn't a lot of detail, plotwise.. but the things I took away from here were some really through and through shots which both soothed and mesmerised. Great lead performance too, same actor as that swimming pool thing in Minority Report.
Breaking Bad - Felina
Great warm conclusion. This Leonard Cohen-esque Heisenberg was Cranston at his best.

good to know some things didn't change with the prequels, even if they shot on screens, the swordplay was real and used those sticks.
After feeling apathetic towards it after I saw it in theaters, I decided to give Iron Man 3 another shot. Surprisingly, I enjoyed it a hell of a lot more the second time. [sp]I'm still not a big fan of the bait-and-switch, but I can now appreciate that scene for its humor as well as the overriding theme of 'theatricality and deception.' The breathing fire part, brief though it was, can still go fuck itself though.[/sp] I caught a lot more of the humor and heart the second time around, and I appreciated the story for what it was. Revised opinion is around 8.5/10; first one is still the best but this one isn't far behind.
Now then, time to attack my backlog and go watch Argo, Les Miserables, The Road, and a few others while I've got the day off for my birthday tomorrow :v:
I thought Argo was great, but you could really tell where they "beefed up" the story to make it more exciting, and those parts are pretty weak.
Flashdance
3/10
Now I know why Ebert put this on his most hated list. Poorly shot, poorly directed, crap script and bland actors. Nothing more to say really.
I decided to watch a bunch of David Lynch movies I haven't seen yet.
Mulholland Drive - 9.5/10 - A god damn masterpiece, don't know why I've been putting it off for so long.
Blue Velvet - 8/10 - Worth watching for Dennis Hopper alone.
Eraserhead - ?/10 - I have no idea what this movie means, The visuals and sound design are pretty strong, especially the lighting. Just not sure if I like it.
Big Trouble in Little China 10/10

I am watching the few Jackie Chan movies that I haven't yet watched.
Shinjuku Incident 8/10
The Room 0/why
Some friends and I tried to watch it, we made it less than a third of the way through before we bailed out and watched The Boondocks
Wow giving up on The Room, one of the greatest bad movies ever, to watch the shit that is The Boondocks. For shame.
