Scarface, the Departed, Eastern Promises, True Romance
Watched Philadelphia. 7/10
I can take it for what it was back in the day but compared to todays serious drama movies(Detachment for example) it kinda pales, even gets a bit cheesy in some scenes where the music plays. Also I feel like D.W.s character could've shown more development.

This is the second Ghibli film I've seen (after Princess Mononoke) and it feels similar in many ways. The art and animation is fantastic and beautiful, there's a sense of wonder with all the magic and mystery, most of the voice acting is good, and the plot is impenetrable and makes very little sense.
I really loved the art in this movie; I like the shiny/globular art and coloring style of these movies, and the painted backgrounds and little details make everything pretty. It reminds me of Del Toro at times, with the simultaneous fascination and fear of the mysterious, magical unknown.
However, the confusion I feel definitely hurts my overall impression. Some plot points are drawn out for too long (like the incredibly obvious "reveal" that [sp]Billy Crystal has/is Christian Bale's heart[/sp]) and some are awkwardly exposited very quickly (Turnips' true identity). Other scenes and concepts are confusing - I never really understood Sophie's curse, Howl's identity, or why everyone was suddenly buddy-buddy with the witch.
I certainly enjoyed it overall, though. I'll definitely be seeing more Ghibli movies - maybe My Neighbor Totoro next.
It's because she's just an old senile lady by the end of the movie.
Her curse has two parts, one is "feeling old" when it begins and the other is "being as old as she feels".

It's inspired by old fairy tales where things often happen just because.

Seen them all except Eastern Promises.
Watched Philadelphia. 7/10

the Neil Young track at the end is so much better than the Springsteen, underrated.
Were to a small'ish cinema and watched "Prince Avalanche"
8/10
In one word: refreshing.
In more words: A refreshing detour from snappy dialogues, sophisticated plots, deep and moving characters.
A simple story, no episode, about two guys in 1988 who are painting road stripes in the middle of Texas, surrounded by forest and swamps burned down in a wildfire the year before. Not as "indie-funny" as the trailer wants us to believe, much more melow and melancholic. Not "lough loud where you're supposed to"-humour, humour that lets you laugh when you want to. Or not.
Go see it.

beautiful and tragic and bleaker than a gentlemen's club on Canvey island 8/10
Prisoners 9/10
Really enjoyed this movie, was practically hooked from start to finish. Yes, it's slow, but the acting is incredible. Jake Gyllenhaal and Hugh Jackman really do a fantastic job (seriously, Jake's fucking eye-twitch and astounding body-language to depict a mentally strained and emotionally distraught Detective blew me away). It's not heavy on the action, but it's a really deep, dark movie throughout. Watched it with the family on my 21st, and it sort of dampened a really good day (honestly, left the theatre feeling depressed, the movie really got to me). Rest of my family got a bit agitated towards the end and I could tell they weren't enjoying it as much as me, but the film had us all talking about it the whole drive home.
I'd recommend it for sure to anyone wanting a really touching movie, the characters really grow on you and the acting makes it so you can't help but not feel the pain they're going through. Really enjoyed it!
Seen them all except Eastern Promises.
It's great. Very different "gangster" style than casino and goodfellas though.
eastern promises is damn good...
I remember seeing it a while ago and liking it but I can't remember what happened in it.
Prince Avalanche - 8/10
ahh been waiting quite some time on this and im happy to say that it's exactly what i wanted it to be, and better
Paul rudds best character imo and was fun seeing Emily hirsch in a similar role and look as in Into the Wild (i actually think that wolf cry scene was a reference to into the wild)
Seen them all except Eastern Promises.
Eastern Promises is better than all the rest combined its amazing. One of Cronenberg's best.
Safety Not Guaranteed
Wow. This movie was just fucking incredible. So many feels and amazing acting, while still being funny. And it was sad and heartwarming at the same time. Aubrey Plaza is freaking gorgeous too. Love it love it love it. If you haven't seen it, drop what you're doing and watch it

I know, it's hard to believe a movie that was inspired by an internet meme could be so great! When I first saw it I expected cheesy slapstick and meme references. What I got was a brilliant and subtle dramedy.
this is the end - 7/10
my god, it was better than i thought, but still total what.
too bad nobody saved rihanna, and even though i knew franco would go exactly as he described, i didn't want it to happen.
Tenacious D in The Pick Of Destiny:
It's a goofy and dumb stoner movie, but I mean that in a good way. It's also got some damn good music (They may use it for comedy, but Jack Black and Kyle Gass have a shitton of musical talent). Also, I was surprised to see that the open-mic host was played by Paul F. Tompkins. He lacked the mustache he has now and he also looked a bit fatter. Amy Poehler as the truck-stop waitress was another surprise. She looked better when she was younger (minus the black-eye her character had, of course), nowadays I think she looks like a lizard.
Anyways, the movie gets a 7/10 because I liked it, but I also thought parts of it were kinda dumb.

Wtf I just watched that a few days ago too.
The Boondocks Saints- really liked it/10
When I came into it I was expecting some Matrix/Constantine shit that was typical during the early centennial years. I was pleasantly surprised. I like how the two brothers managed to completely outwit the police while being completely oblivious yet simultaneously insanely genre savvy. It had just the right mix of comic relief, and I enjoy the religious undertones in movies like this, especially as it created a total paradox. Would reccomend.
True Grit (2010)- 8/10 a little bit slower than I remember it being when it came out, but it's still a great movie.
Kill Bill Volume 1- 9.5/10 I fucking love this movie. Saw it for the first time when I was 11 and even after 8 years of watching it several times a year, it never gets old. One of Tarantino's finest movies, even if it's not his most dialogue heavy.
Sunset Blvd.- 9/10 Probably my favorite Billy Wilder movie next to "Ace In The Hole". Don't look up a damn thing before watching it, just go in cold and take my word for it. You won't regret it.
I'm thinking about watching "No Country For Old Men" and "There Will Be Blood" soon. I've heard nothing but good things about both of them.
i'm kinda late on this but no country for old men is fucking brilliant. watch it asap its too fuckin good
No Country and There Will Be Blood are 2 of the best films of the 21st century tbh. Top 10 for me, easy. Maybe even top 5.
Pacific Rim
8/10
So old fashion, so old school. Reminded me of the Power Rangers/Ultraman days. Which I think was the point
I watched Sunshine yesterday. It's such a beautiful movie and the score is fantastic. Reminded me a lot about 2001 at times.

But then. For some reason Danny Boyle had to make the last 30 minutes of the movie really different and imo really out of place.
I rate the first two acts 8/10
and the last act 5/10.
Casino
One of the best movies I've ever seen. Definitely a classic. I'd go more into depth but I'm sick as hell atm so my mind is tired
I think the movie adaptation of The Shining is horrible.
I read the book before and loved it, rent the movie some time after and I had somewhat positive expectations of it (from what I had heard) but after watching it halfway through I was really pissed, I skimmed around the rest of the movie and I didn't like pretty much anything that happened in it.
The ending (Jack being frozen) was one of the most ridiculous endings I have ever seen to a movie.
ha
Gravity. 9/10.
Really good movie. I was at the edge of my seat the entire time.

God, it's just so good. I really wish that movie had had a better ending and instead of [sp]slasher flic in space.[/sp]
Cliffhanger
I seriously don't understand all the hate this gets. Sure, it's got all the old action movie cheesiness in it, but it's fun and engaging, and I had a blast. a good 7/10
The Mist 9/10 great movie plus that ending was so sad

Who hates it again?
Pacific Rim
I don't understand why a lot of people seem to hate this movie. I for one thought it was awesome as hell and I got exactly what I wanted out of it. Highly entertaining and I could recommend it to anyone.
