Frank and Robot - an 8/10 given the Ebert metric of intended endpoint: we're not working with exemplars of a place, time, phenomenon, ideal, end, mechanic; we're talking about a frail and old man who guards his humanity with all the jealousy in the world and has a robot to amplify it. It provides no place for contemplation or thought - so perhaps you'll want a comfortable cradle for schadenfreude with a humanist resolution worthy of a Disney script doctor, and this'll be the movie for you.
Frank Langella's acting in coordination with the writing I find almost transparent.

I was sad when [sp] he had to turn off his friend in order to prevent police from obtaining evidence [/sp]
Dr Strangelove is pure goodness, it's satire yet so precise in its construction it's ridiculous. You'd think for such a film that they wouldn't go to great lengths to recreate precisely what the exact fighter jet is on the inside.. not to mention it's the 60s.
It's not the most ridiculously funny film for everyone, honestly a universally funny film is rare as heck. But for a satirical piece, it's unique.

everyone has to like Buster keaton though
all kubrick movies own, except strangelove which is awful and eyes wide shut which is just ok
Fuck you pal, Strangelove is fantastic.
George C. Scott makes everything amazing.
Also, the movie is responsible for the best mutator for UT99. (riding redeemer missiles in race maps and general hilarity)
I hope you guys don't mind me asking here, but is that film "Gravity" that's out in America any good? Didn't want to run into any spoilers in the main thread. It seems to be doing alright review-wise.
I don't even watch horror movies because I'm too chicken. I guess I did see Alien and The Thing but I'm legitimately too spooked to watch the Evil Dead movies.
holy shit what
do you even bruce campbell?

yes, this is common knowledge.
except strangelove which is awful
ya blew it there, dr. strangelove is one of the best dark comedies ever. if you really think it's awful i'm seriously compelled to believe that you simply didn't get it. first time i saw it was like 10 years ago and i didn't understand it all too well, but i've rewatched it over the years and it made a lot more sense and i caught onto the comedy a lot better. sterling hayden is fantastic, peter sellers is a boss for playing three very distinct roles and you just sound like a bit of a cunt. also, you're gonna have to answer to the coca-cola company for this.
and eyes wide shut which is just ok
still haven't seen it yet.

"Alright" is an understatement. Gravity's pretty much been universally acclaimed from what I've seen. It currently stands on number 43 at IMDB's top 250 list, and has a 96 on metacritic. It's a pretty darn good movie.
It currently stands on number 43 at IMDB's top 250 list
indiana jones 4 was once on that list, so that's not a useful statement any more.

Sweet. I was looking forward to it before because I love the concept of it. Might go see it the day it releases here then.
indiana jones 4 was once on that list, so that's not a useful statement any more.
True true.
Okay, but it's directed by the guy who did Children of Men, which is one of the best films in recent memory. Does that count?
indiana jones 4 was once on that list, so that's not a useful statement any more.
you have to give it some time though
its still not the most credible thing ever but 1-2 weeks after a 'watchable' mainstream movie is released, it almost always stays on the top 250 and the rating then slowly goes down

Well its alfonso Cuaron so yes (hes one of the best directors working-- if you havent seen Children of Men you suck)

Children of men is one of my favorite films.
I don't trust the Top 250 literally, I mean fuck Jaws and Jurassic Park are way at the bottom, and god why is the Avengers and Star Trek (2009) on there and the Dark Knight is in the top ten, literally. Even though it is a great movie it shouldn't BE in the top ten
According to IMDb, Man of Steel is 'better' than The Last Temptation of Christ.

To be quite honest, I'd rather watch a Superman movie than any movie about Jesus. With the possible exception of Jesus Christ Superstar. That shit's rockin'.

why in the f do people feel the need to come post about a movie let alone rate it when they haven't even finished it yet

Rusty's getting rusty.
World War Z - 7.5/10...
I... I take back the irrational hatred I had for this before even seeing it.
Wow, it was surprisingly good.
Nothing at all like the book but on its own it was a really fun and intense zombie movie.
I liked how they treated the zombies as a sort of natural disaster.
I still wish that they hadn't taken the name of the book though.
Although I didn't like Dr. Strangelove as much as a lot of people did, the ending's easily the best part.
I think you should finish it sometime, Rusty. At least give it a chance.
when a comedy film doesnt make me laugh or even smile once in 3 quarters of it then why would i bother giving it another chance for the last quarter
haven't seen this in a while so i thought id give it a watch
[t]http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2w5aAtRLNZU/UIa_dZZ-6FI/AAAAAAAAN14/DCU8X6P0tu0/s1600/dracula_1931_poster_02.jpg[/t]
dracula - 8/10
of course the only reason it loses points are because of the silly fake bats, and that this wasn't the version with the score, which i think is better. of course, seeing as how this was one of the first "talkies" made, it makes sense that a musical companion wouldn't be on the creator's minds right away. also, it may just be me, but what i think makes lugosi the proverbial vampire is more that of his facial expressions and body language as opposed to actual line deliverance. you definitely can't deny that his stare is menacing and eerie, and the odd delivery of his dialogue floats right along with it.
Pacific Rim - 7/10
Silly but okay movie. The action scenes and visuals though were awesome but the plot was so predictable. Also Ron Perlman stole the show
Pacific Rim - 8/10
Not a huge fan of monster movies or whatever but the Kaiju designs were cool. And the action was great. There was only one brief scene where I couldn't quite tell what was happening. The rest was pretty clear.
according to rotten tomatoes brett ratners red dragon is better than ridley scotts hannibal

both are good but red dragon is better. hannibal had it's fair share of dumb pointless action
Amadeus
10/10
I've been meaning to watch this again and it still holds up. In fact, I think I'm loving this film more and more. It's superbly directed with superb acting and excellent use of Mozart's music. Props to F. Murray Abraham for being so amazing as Salieri and Tom Hulce being a very unique Mozart. However everyone's acting is great here. It's not meant to be 100% historically accurate nor do I think the historical accuracy of these events were even considered a priority. It's not historical fantasy but instead, it creates such fascinating characters with depth and complexity dealing with rather personal issues I could identify with. It's a fantastic trade-off.

How do you decide if other people gave up on a movie "because of how shit it was"?
"When cheecking my Twitter is more interesting than this movie why should I bother watching it?"
You're just smug about your own movie taste.

SuperJesus>everyone
[sp]When will everyone stop copying off Donner's Jesus parallels in Superman the Movie? Even there, it was kept at a minimum. You didn't see Chris Reeve doing crucifixion poses. Superman originally had more ties to Judaism anyway.[/sp]
