btw I was just being sarcastic with that SuperJesus>everyone comment
it's the cheapest method of making Superman seem important and inspirational
To be honest when watching Man of Steel I did not saw any allusions to Jesus Christ (yep, not even in the church when it was supposedly thrown into our faces). Not even crucifixion pose. So maybe I was oblivious, or maybe I wasn't watching it with intention to hate it from the beginning.

Are you serious?

and for all you godless heathens out there, Jesus was 33 years old (in the bible) when he was crucified.

Red Dragon IS better than Hannibal, Hannibal was awful mindless gore porn.

All I'm just saying is that I didn't notice that it would stand out dramatically (same with product placement) or be somehow obnoxious. Even more, I don't see what's wrong with biblical metaphors in Superman seeing how they were from the very beginning in earliest comics (whether it was Judaism or Christianity, the messiah model is important). One must be either a total atheist who hates anything remotely connected with religion, or a religion nut who treats everything overly serious to have a real problem with that.
When you're going to see a film and you're already negative about it (or it will annoy you at the beginning) you're probably gonna pick out more negatives than positives. I had the same with Prometheus and Max Payne and I cannot say any positive thing about either of this.

Yeah I agree with you on the idea of going to see a movie just to hate being a bad thing to do if you were trying to balance out the good and the bad. I'm going to try to keep this short here since this isn't a Superman thread but honestly, biblical metaphors to the Superman mythos were small and/or non-existent before 1978. The references to Judaism and its traditions can be seen a bit in the early Siegel and Shuster comics. The obvious Superman=Moses thing can be pointed out but also the star of Rao Pre-Crisis Kryptonians wore on the chest=Star of David, the litte skullcaps/hats=kippahs and etc... Yeah you got the Kents being Methodist and Superman talking to priests and clergymen in Pre-Crisis too but these are worked into the character and world.
Biblical metaphors for the Superman story and character however? Nah, this whole 'Superman is here to save Earth and show us how to live'/'become a beacon of hope'/messiah model was more or less, Donner and the Salkinds' creation with baby Kal-El's ship looking awfully similar to a star (hint hint Star of Bethlehem), Jor-El casting out Zod, Ursa and Non at the beginning (God casting out Satan and the fallen angels), a baby with extraordinary powers is gifted to a couple with no children (Mary and Joseph) and of course, this little quote: "Live as one of them, Kal-El, to discover where your strength and power are needed. But always hold in your heart the pride of your special heritage. They can be a great people, Kal-El, and they wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way. For this reason above all, their capacity for good, I have sent them you, my only son."
Fans back then complained about this stuff too but it was fairly minimal and subtle, things you don't really think about when you're watching a light-hearted movie with a guy that flies around in a cape. The childhood experience, the 'immigrant story', power fantasies of Siegel and Shuster originally have so much more influence on Superman than the biblical metaphors ever did. I just saw the whole use of biblical metaphors in Man of Steel as unnecessary and IMO jarring, especially when they were never that essential to the mythos, when such iconic and strong imagery/metaphors are emphasized without any sort of purpose besides 'um Superman is kinda similar to Jesus and Moses right'.

Also I just want to add that I didn't walk into MoS being already negative about it.
jackie brown is my personal favourite, i'm possibly the only one who thought Rdogs was the least effective film in his entire catalogue (not seen Death Proof yet).
Decided to watch ROBOCOP today.
Death Proof isn't a serious Tarantino film, but it's a lot of fun. You probably know that it was part of the "Grindhouse" double feature movie made in 2007, and if you know much about grindhouse cinema, you'll know not to take the movie seriously anyway.
It's fun, but it's not to be compared to the rest of his filmography. It's just not fair.
Say what you will about Death Proof, it has one of the best car chases I've ever seen.
Fuck I love the wave. I was in a slightly similar situation back in junior high. I should make a thread about it some time.
So I made that thread, should interest anyone who's also seen The Wave.

Death Proof owns. I dont even care. I need to rewatch Jackie Brown. It's the only Tarantino film aside Death Proof I've only seen once, actually. No idea how many times I've seen Dogs and Inglorious Basterds. Past the stage of being a kid and watching The Lion King 4 times a day every day, Reservoir Dogs might be the film I've watched the most now that I think about it.
I actually watched Jackie Brown again recently, and it's really great, but I can see what a person who's used to Tarantino's other films would dislike about it.
It doesn't surprise me a bit that it's (arguably) his least popular work.
Death Proof is great if you like dialogue heavy films. And it has a pretty bad ass car chase.
Just watched Lord Of War - 9/10
I thought it was really good. Nicolas Cage really can be a good actor, he just needs to stop taking shitty roles. Only complaint is that it was fairly predictable that [sp]his brother would die, and it was kind of retarded the way he did.[/sp] But still a great film.
[sp] it was kind of retarded the way he did.[/sp]
guns shooting bullets, how foolish.
guns shooting bullets, how foolish.
[sp]"I guess I will blow up these guns even though I will literally definitely be killed and so might my brother".[/sp] Also the fact that Yuri even asked him to come for basically no reason, since he had been doing it fine on his own for ages. [sp]"Guess I will bring my brother who finally is getting his life together along on this arms deal."[/sp]

but did you really see how he reacted to what was happening?
jared is a strong enough actor to tell you that it really shifted his mind out of place. When people call something like that "predictable", it's a bit ridiculous. "this guy changes views, therefore this must happen in order to move the film forward", I don't know why people think this in the space of 2 minutes.
Dracula 3000 with some friends
2/10
It gets 1 point for being so hilariously bad that it was somewhat entertaining, and the other point for using a TV with a VCR left on top of it as a prop.
Movie night with a friend.
Kindergarten Cop 7/10.
When I hear a title like this one, I think 'jesus christ, this sounds like it'll be awful'. When I hear Arnold Schwarzenegger is in it, I think 'jesus christ, this sounds like it'll be awesome'. And it is awesome. Arnie does what we expect of him, the jokes generally hit and it's an overall pretty decent movie.
P.S.: Richard Tyson, please try to use your face to convey emotions, not just your voice.
Machete 9/10
This movie has been on my shelf for too long. Robert Rodriguez has the mindset of a 13-year old and the skill to make it look good. It's amazingly over-the-top (I dare you not to laugh at some of the combat moves) and the dialogue is cliche and cheesy as fuck but it doesn't matter. It's a movie I put in the same box as The Expendables. It's hilarious, entertaining on an almost sinful level and an amazing popcorn movie.

I can agree, Kindergarten Cop is a decent childrens movie, same goes with Twins (not Junior). Arnie is indeed funny
Saw Dredd (2012)
Pretty damn fun movie. I barely know anything about Judge Dredd from the comics other than the fact that he's a comic book character but it was very interesting. The movie hinted towards a much larger universe that left me wanting more. My only complaint would be that it's definitely violence for the sake of violence, and oftentimes without any discernible artistic merit. I remembered that the movie was meant to be seen in 3D in theaters so I could tell that half of the scenes were definitely choreographed to have the typical "Look at THIS *wow* *woah*," feel and were largely unnecessary and took me out of a movie that was otherwise well grounded.
Good movie, would recommend.
Just saw The Man from Earth from 2007. Despite being mainly dialogue and done on a tiny budget with okay actors, it was an amazing film.
The plot focuses on John Oldman, a departing university professor. The only setting is in and around Oldman's house during his farewell party, with the plot advancing through intellectual arguments between Oldman and his fellow faculty members.
dredd was awesome, i just saw it like, a week ago. action purely for the sake of action but i loved every second. some of the gore was kind of unexpected because most movies cut away and i was left mumbling 'holy shit' more than once. the scenes with slo-mo were righteous. sucks that the end very obviously hinted at a sequel but the chances of us getting one are pretty low.

We don't talk about the abomination that is Junior.
Trainspotting (1996)
Danny Boyles proper breakout film came out a good few years ago now and the impact was quite big due to the explicit drug scenes. I saw this a long time ago but watching it again now made me wonder if such a movie would create the stir it did back in 96' and I don't think it would. The quality of the film is clear but after its release many have copied it and continued to push the moral boundary with realistic imagery depicting drugs, rape and child abuse.
Trainspotting in no way glorifys drug addiction but rather shows a realistic world these people live in and how they relate to people non addicts would normally care about.
If you've not seen it then I'd recommend it and if you're thinking of taking heroin then this might be enough to put you off.

He speaks truth, this is an excellent film and is proof that you don't need £££'s to make something absorbing. Fans of this will enjoy K-Pax.
