Princess Mononoke 8/10
I was going to give it a 7 but I put an extra point on because Keith David
The Kings of Summer 8/10
Oldboy 9/10
For the first half of the movie it felt like a mix of a psychological thriller and Kill Bill, then towards the end it suddenly got all serious and turned into a slightly silly psychological thriller. It was still really good though. It is also probably one of the darkest movies I've seen in a while, hard to beat [sp] 2x incest combo, tooth-pulling torture, tongue cutting, attempted suicide, 2x successful suicide and badguy wins trope[/sp]
Shame- 8/10
Very, very different movie. Go into it cold without knowing anything.
My favorite scene for some reason was [sp] Sissy's gig. That long shot on her face as she performs evokes so much emotion that it's crazy. [/sp]
Really interesting little movie. Might have to watch "Hunger" to see more of what this Steve McQueen guy is all about.
I found Shame very hard to enjoy. I absolutely love Michael Fassbender, and both his and Carey Mulligan's performances were astounding... I just didn't really enjoy the movie. I stopped watched 3/4 of the way through EDIT: after reading the synopsis I actually realized I watched the whole movie. It was disheartening, and really wasn't my type of film.
I guess I just found it confusing, and didn't really understand what it was about. Maybe my plebeian mind cannot grasp the genius.
Nurse Ratched
Possibly my most hated movie character. What a gigantic bitch. Great acting from Louise Fletcher though.
She is also a bitch as this hated character in DS9
The Kings of Summer 8/10
this is a fun little movie, recommended for people who enjoy movies like Safety not guaranteed and Prince avalanche etc

How did I not recognize his voice? I saw that movie the same night as The Thing (hell of a double-feature, by the way).
Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade 8.8/10
While never quite reaching the heights of Raiders Of The Lost Ark it's still a very enjoyable film to watch. The soundtrack to the film is just incredible.
The night of the hunter

An interesting film, and altough simplistic in its approach it has some memorable scenes. It reminded me of the shining.
The spy who came in from the cold

Now this latter movie is deffinetly something I would recommend. It slowly builds momentum but its worth buckling up for the finale. That double-crossing at the end brought back memories from nueve reinas, also a film worth watching.

Last Crusade > Temple of Doom
Last Crusade > Every Indiana Jones film
No, Raiders beats all. My personal favorite is the 2nd one though
Even the Rain (2010)
Gael Garcia and co are a director and film crew telling the story of indigenous indians and the landing of Columbus. They pick Bolivia to film and use locals as cheap extras but the problem is the locals are taking on the big corps because their water is being taken away from them.
Naturally this messes with filming and the crew have moral crossroads to face as their extras become targets of the police and corrupt government. Obvious parallels between the old and new are made.
Emotions and drama are high and the performances from everybody are good but the Bolivian cast which probably are locals steal the show. The score is a piece of shit though. Fortunately the story and cast carry the film and this idea of a film about a film is quite well done. This was an excellent film.
Alex Cross (2012)
Generic, hollywood cop drama about cat and mouse games between a hitman and a policeman. Total borefest, terrible acting and pointless story, what little there is. This was like a cheap episiode of CSI which is also poor. This film was like watching my father get into bed with me, a painful experience. Avoid.
Also thanks for the film dumps over the last few pages, I have added much to my watchlist comrades. I've noticed FP is losing quite a lot of traffic, times are changing online. Much love.

War of the Worlds 05 - 6.5/10
This movie actually could have been a bit better if Speilberg didn't Speilberg the ending.
[sp]Tom Cruise's son should have died, it was dumb when he showed up at the end.[/sp]
Also it was pretty stupid that the tripods are already on earth.
Other than that it was an okay movie. And pretty dark for a Speilberg movie.

I always say this about the Jew. He is the only director I can think of that could end a Lolokaust film with a happy end. I felt like Schindler's should have rolled the credits 10 mins earlier.
Does anyone know what the zing ratings mean?

The ending to Schindler's List wasn't 'happy' at all. It was just acknowledging the man known as Oskar Schindler who was responsible for saving 1200 Jews. What was so overly fun and joyful about it?
Besides, the ending was just seeing the real survivors visiting Schindler's grave.

That is pretty uncalled for.
Also I would say Close Encounters doesn't have a happy ending.
6 million dead Jews? :)
I dont even know how to respond to that
Aaaaah, so that's why you're banned. I get it now.
Well, with a name like Jewdozer.
Man on a Ledge (2012) - 7/10. As a disgraced police psychologist attempts to bring an ex-cop from the ledge of a building, she begins to find not all is as it seems.
Shit was fun, coulda been better. It felt like the writer wanted to make two different films about a [sp]heist and a police scandal[/sp] and opted to fuse them. Again it coulda gone better, the [sp]heist scenes[/sp] are silly with the chemistry between Jamie Bell and Genesis Rodriguez whereas everything else is pretty thriller like.
Oh yeah Elizabeth Banks is hot yo.

Depends what you expected vs what mood you were in. This goes for most films tbh.

I didn't expect anything like that though.
6 million dead Jews? :)
ah, the familiar smell of desperation

No, but I sure as hell know what dumb ratings mean.
I planned on watching Only God Forgives, although I don't know if I should pick it up. I really like Drive but that might mislead me and cause me to have wrong expectations. Anyhow, is the movie decent? Apparently it isn't well acclaimed by everyone.

I liked it. The whole film was beautifully shot, in my opinion. My only complaints would probably be the fact that Ryan Gosling plays the stoic again, except for two seconds.
Also, it might help if you've seen Valhalla Rising. Not very similar in terms of material, but very similar pacing.
can't guarantee you'll enjoy it if you've only seen Drive..
I hear numerous things about Valhalla Rising and mostly they weren't good ones but I was quite intruiged by it. Actually I never got around picking them up. I just want a decent movie to watch with my girlfriend, preferably an intense one. Drive was incredibly in that aspect.
What kind of intense? Gunfights? Car chases? Proper Action? Shit?

Drive was filled with love and it had a unique spirit, Only God Forgives is not something I'd watch with anyone..

possibly one of the most bitter films of the year imo
