Black Rain
4/5
A typically forgotten Ridley Scott film, and to be fair, it's not his best, but it's a decently enjoyable cop thriller.
I actually found Cube: Zero quite entertaining ([sp]superhuman bullshit[/sp]aside). It's the second movie that's the black sheep in my book.
You can't honestly tell me you thought the fact that they [sp]went against everything the first film had established, by telling us (to some degree) what the cube is, who built it, and who's behind it etc. was good or entertaining...[/sp] It's like the guys that made Cube: Zero didn't understand what made Cube so great, or didn't even watch it at all.
[sp]And don't even get me started on that terrible knock-off James Bond villain, that had no place in the movie[/sp]
Hypercube isn't that great either yeah, but I consider it a million times better than Zero.
The World's End.
3.5/5
It's good. It's funny.
Didn't work for me for some reason. Even accepting the weird undetermined genre and direction of the plot, none of the jokes really worked for me. The [sp] first fight scenes[/sp] were kinda hilarious because of the surprise but other than that.. I dunno.

Well yeah, explaining it may not have been necessary but the execution could've been a LOT worse. And yeah,[sp]Jax as a whole was a bit of a hit or miss too much[/sp]but hear me out.
I have nothing against putting a spin on an existing formula but do it right. Cube 2 was a fine example of how not to do it. Instead of the awesome traps 1 and Zero gave us, we get[sp]overlapping timelines, illusions, general time-related tomfoolery[/sp]that just isn't good. Hell, the scene where [sp]this one guy gets his legs caught in the time bullshit[/sp]was more hilarious than whatever the hell it should've been. The effects are awful, you can tell who's gonna be the bad guy from a million miles away and the ending....Oh god, the ending. At least Cube Zero explained shit and what it didn't explain was at least comprehensible.
The ending in Cube 2, on the other hand, is a fucking mess.[sp]Kate realizes and remembers everything all at once. No hints, no foreshadowing, nothing to indicate anything. 60659? That's when the cube implodes, 6:06:59. Why is she here? To get sensitive data back. So she makes it out of the cube, hands the necklace to some goon and promptly gets executed, followed by the phrase 'phase 2 is terminated'. Who are these people? Why was she killed? What the hell is phase 2 supposed to refer to? What was that data that was so important? Why on earth was she put in the cube with an erased memory? Isn't that kind of really fucking inefficient?[/sp]
Don't get me wrong, Cube Zero does have its faults, such as[sp]revealing who built the cube to an extent (even though the how and the why are still a mystery) and having a caricature of a villain[/sp]but at the same time, it also addressed a few questions I always found nagging about the first one. Namely, [sp]what the hell happened to anyone who got out? Sure, someone like Kazan isn't gonna be a liability (he's more likely to get lost and die of starvation or what have you) but take anyone else from the original who would've escaped. They would've led people right back to the Cube in an instant. Or how they constantly get new people for the Cube and yet nobody on the outside (friends, family) has taken any action towards it.[/sp]
Again, Cube Zero is not perfect. At all. Yes,[sp]Jax may have been a James Bond knock-off but at least he didn't give a shit about his performance, he was funny at times.[/sp]The entire overwatch twist on the formula, while by no means perfectly executed, was decent. It could've done entirely without[sp]the whole government part[/sp], no arguing there, but having part of the plot revolve around overseers who actively question what is going on and what they're doing had real potential, especially in something as this.
No, Zero is indeed not an amazing or even good movie by any means but I still consider it better than Hypercube, if only because the twist on the formula (and by extension its execution) sucks less.
Undisputed 3
Yeah it was pretty good. Enjoyable/10.

[sp]Well, if you're doing a movie about the concept of hypercubes (and being inside a hypercube), it would make sense to deviate a bit from the 'regular' traps like the ones in Cube. Perhaps they went a bit overboard with some of it though.[/sp] I agree that the effects aren't amazing, but neither were those in Cube. The effects in Hypercube are OK-ish for its time I guess.

Yeah but that is exactly why Cube Zero is bad and feels like a big joke IMO. What made Cube unique was that you weren't given the answers you wanted. Your mind filled in the blanks, which made the idea of a deathtrap maze of cubes so much scarier to me.

Yeah, the movie does kinda fall apart towards the end now that you mention it. I have the feeling that Cube 2 was an over-ambitious project, that ran out of budget/time or something like that. Feels like they tried to save the thing in Post.

Again, this isn't something I see as a positive point about the movie. [sp]"Oh, great, the Cube is a religious(?) experiment facility underwater in some lake out in the woods..."[/sp] [sp]Maybe at the end of the first film Kazan stepped out into some desert in the US, or the docking bay of an alien spaceship or perhaps even a McDonald's bathroom. Anything you come up with in your head, is so much better, since the Cube can literally exit to everywhere and nowhere. Even the director himself realised this after he, apparently(according to IMDB), filmed a short film showing what is outside of the Cube, but destroyed it as to never reveal what was outside the cube.[/sp]
I guess I'll take back that Hypercube is a million times better than Zero, since you made (and reminded me of) some valid points. I still think it's the 'better' of the two follow-ups though.
Cube never should have had any pre/sequels though.
I hear numerous things about Valhalla Rising and mostly they weren't good ones but I was quite intruiged by it. Actually I never got around picking them up. I just want a decent movie to watch with my girlfriend, preferably an intense one. Drive was incredibly in that aspect.
Yes, you must watch Only God Forgives with your girlfriend at all costs.

Cube has the excuse of being made on a piece of string and a pack of animal crackers. And especially considering what they had, the effects were good.
Shark Night.

Does anyone know the movie, I think it's relatively older, but I think it's an older guy, finds a younger girl and trains her with assassination techniques? I don't remember much else. I remember seeing pictures of it, but do not remember the title.
edit;
it's not Hanna
Leon the professional?
Leon the professional?
Damn you're good. Thanks man, I got a new movie to order! :)
That movie's freaking awesome btw
Isn't Leon that movie where it's implied at one point that[sp]he (almost) slept with a 12-year old girl[/sp]?
Isn't Leon that movie where it's implied at one point that[sp]he (almost) slept with a 12-year old girl[/sp]?
In the original script it totally happened

Thank God it didn't happened. These awkward scenes when [sp]Matilda was hitting on Leon[/sp] were the worst.

Prisoners 8.5/10
I had an idea of the twist but holy shit it was a stellar thriller film. Really intense shit.
Drive (2011)
Inarguably one of the most beautifully shot films I've ever seen. Wonderful pacing, wonderful use of violence, wonderful style. I would not hesitate to recommend this movie to anybody. I can see where Hotline Miami borrowed a lot of its stylistic choices from.

Testament
Been meaning to see this for a long while, had no clue what to expect. I knew only that it had to do with some kind of nuclear disaster.
The first 20 or so minutes play like your ordinary american family sitcom, very much reminiscent of a TV film actually.. very relaxed, warm and cosy.
Then suddenly it just did a thing and I felt extreme numbness.. it was just, an unexplainable turn. From this point onwards I just crumbled inside and it didn't stop eating away what I had inside.
It's a film which is very small, literally taking place in just an average town. Very few characters, but what's extraordinary is the really big amount of humanity and reality with the people.
It's not a disaster film at all, but you just feel so hopeless as you watch people deteriorate into themselves. It's not nice...
To sum up, ... another fucking good film, you ruin my life :(
Its Jessica Nigri and why exactly?
that's exactly why
she is a modeling whore, clearly paid to cosplay all sorts of crazy characters and truly does not give a shit.
she brings shame to cosplaying.
