Rise of the Guardians any good?
I liked it. It had some fantastic looking cgi and an alright story. It's no masterpiece but it's worth a watch.
Rise of the Guardians any good?
i liked it because i like owls
i watched the place beyond the pines it was very good and also very sad. give it a watch
Really? Awesome, I was looking forward to that movie. Ryan Gosling was good like always?
yeah he's good but he can't scream for shit it would be embarrassing if he was not ryan gosling
imo Gosling's best so far is Half Nelson. [editline]7th May 2013[/editline] definitely have to see that again some time.
Hellboy 2 Ron Perlman in red makeup/10 Love this movie. Everything about it is so fucking great. [editline]7th May 2013[/editline] 8 ron perlmans out of 10 ron perlmans

I prefer the first Hellboy, the second was a bit too ridiculous for me.

Watched the first episode of Twin Peaks. All sorts of weird shit seems to be occuring of which the first episode only just scratched the surface of. David Lynch certainly is a quirky director.
Jarhead 7/10 Really enjoyed it, but I was a little disappointed to not see any [sp]actual action scenes or shootouts[/sp] in a movie about marines. The acting was brilliant for the most part (Jake Gyllenhaal was excellent, one of his best roles), although some characters are quite forgettable. Very unique I'd say, both story and style. Its not up there with Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket, but certainly a must watch for people who like the genre.
the village - really cool movie. the soundtrack is great, and the story itself and the way it develops is also really great.
the ending completely ruined it. It was watchable up until then, but holy shit that ending pissed me off. Fuck Shyamalan. every time I watch his terrible endings I can't but picture him flipping me off with a smiling face.
the ending completely ruined it. It was ok up until then, but god that ending pissed me off. Fuck Shyamalan.
Do you mean the [sp]'it was an amish village the whole time' thing?[/sp]
Do you mean the [sp]'it was an amish village the whole time' thing?[/sp]
no, that was actually ok. [sp]I think it just doesn't make sense, first of all how can they live in a natural reserve? Isn't it illegal? And how does the whole dressing up as monsters work? Do they pass on the secret to their kids, and if so wouldn't they get pissed off and wouldn't someone talk? Isn't it easier to just try convince people that the outside world is bad instead of dressing as monsters and scaring people? Sure, saying that an outside world exists full of different cultures might make them curious, but saying there are monsters and mysterious forces would do that also. What if someone attacks them when they are dressed? Its also ridiculous how they make growling noises under those costumes. And I question how it's possible to be indipendent in such a small village since nothing gets delivered there.[/sp] He was actually accused of ripping of the idea from a book. The premise isn't bad, the execution is just unrealistic and laughable in some parts.
i watched the place beyond the pines it was very good and also very sad. give it a watch
Some parts of the movie felt a bit draggy and unnecessary. And Cooper's acting was bad, [sp]when he was crying[/sp] there wasn't any emotions.

I mean why did the aliens invade earth if it's covered with 70% water?
We're talking Shyamalan here, his movies aren't exactly famous for going through everything. I mean why did the aliens invade earth if it's covered with 70% water?
don't get me started on his other movies...
Do you mean the [sp]'it was an amish village the whole time' thing?[/sp]
i've always thought it was a pretty pointless twist. doesn't really reveal anything about anything. who cares I don't. like it does reveal plot details, but emotionally the twist does nothing other than make the film suck more. [editline]7th May 2013[/editline]
I mean why did the aliens invade earth if it's covered with 70% water?
riddle for the ages
Steven Spielberg's Jaws - 10/10 Spielberg also chose not to reveal the shark until halfway through the movie, bringing the suspense.
That was actually the result of them not really getting the shark animatron working properly so they had to make due with not really showing it. Worked fucking wonders though.
I found that movie painfully dull. I understand that it isn't supposed to be exciting but damn, it nearly put me to sleep.
Fuckin' ay. Moneyball (2011) - 7/10. S'alright. Just Brad Pitt being Brad Pitt and a horrible miscast of Jonah Hill. Valkyrie (2008) - 7/10. So I'm watching the credits, directed by Bryan Singer. Oh neat the guy who did The Usual Suspects. Written by Christopher McQuarrie. Holy shit the writer of The Usual Suspects, guess they teamed up- music by John Ottman. Christ all I could think of was how could these guys have come back together but make such an underwhelming film? It felt like a crime or something goddamn.

Watched Hobo with a Shotgun. Was pretty funny, I'd say it was worth a watch. Also I'm in the process of watching American History X, and I'm loving it so far. [editline]7th May 2013[/editline] okay just finished jesus christ what a fantastic movie, crying so hard right now
Some parts of the movie felt a bit draggy and unnecessary. And Cooper's acting was bad, [sp]when he was crying[/sp] there wasn't any emotions.
it was really only that one scene in the woods where he could have done better but it wasn't film ruining.
We're talking Shyamalan here, his movies aren't exactly famous for going through everything. I mean why did the aliens invade earth if it's covered with 70% water?
Read this not long ago, and although it could be a bunch of bullshit, it gave some explanation to the water thing.
When I first saw this film, I didn’t realize that it wasn’t about aliens at all. It’s about the return of demons. Notice it’s all about a priest’s resurgence of belief, and a preordained moment of redemption-if-dared-and-attempted. There is no alien technology or weaponry or clothing of any kind, only a clawed, naked beast creature and lights in the sky. Furthermore: The running joke throughout the movie is that people see these “invaders” in a way that’s related to their particular frame of mind: The cop sees them as prankster kids, the bookstore owners see them as “a hoax to sell commercials,” the Army recruitment officer sees them as invading military, the kids see them as UFOs…and the priest sees them as test of faith. This understanding of the film removed my hatred of the “You’ve got to be kidding me; they were killed by WATER!” concept. In fact, the priest’s daughter had been referred to as “holy” (as revealed during Mel’s key monologue)–recognized by all who saw her at her birth as “an Angel;” and her quite particular relationship to water is shown to be very special and spiritual: In other words, she has placed vials of what are, essentially, HOLY WATER all around the house. (And the creature’s reaction when coming in contact with this blessed liquid is EXACTLY like monsters/vampires being splashed by spiritual “acid.”) This view of the movie also explains the creature’s actions: They act like superior tricksters, are not able to break in through closed doors, can be trapped behind simple wooden latches –all mythological elements of demons and vampire-like creatures of lore. It also explains the news over the radio at the end of the movie that an ancient method of killing the creatures has been found “in three small cities in the Middle East” –one would suspect the religious “hubs” of the three main Abrahamic traditions, each discovering the “mystic methods” of protection-and-dispatch that I’ve noted earlier. Note also: All the Christian iconography throughout the movie, the references to “Signs and Wonders” (the true meaning of the title), the crucifix shapes hinted-at everywhere (check out the overhead shot, looking down on the street driving into town) and the ultimate fact that the entire movie is built around a Priest rediscovering he is not abandoned to a random, Godless, scientifically-oriented Universe but, rather, is part of a predicted and dreamed-of plan. Now –these creatures may for all intents and purposes be some sort of extraterrestrial or inter-dimensional “aliens” –but the point of the movie seems to be that they are, in the ACTUALITY OF THE FILM WORLD, the dark stuff from which all the character’s tales of devils and night-creatures were born.
Also Eat, Pray, Love. 2/5 What a selfish woman! She's absolutely horrible. It's a movie about a woman who suddenly leaves her husband, hooks up with a guy half her age, dumps him and then goes on a year long holiday to 'find herself'. Where does she get the money for this trip? Why would anyone want to spend half an hour watching a woman eat spaghetti and buy jeans? Such a horrible take of foreign countries. The two is because it wasn't badly made and some of the scenery was nice looking.
but that was the point, to show [sp]that not every war story is incredibly action-filled and glorious, that some people pretty much sat on the sidelines the whole time.[/sp]
yeah I actually realized that after writing the post.
Premium Rush - 7/10
i just saw star trek 2 at imax and i really liked it. it probably isn't one that's gonna stay with you, but it's a tight spectacle that never sucks.
i just saw star trek 2 at imax and i really liked it. it probably isn't one that's gonna stay with you, but it's a tight spectacle that never sucks.
Good to hear, I'm seeing it in a few days. Did you see it in 3D?
yes. i did not enjoy the 3d. it's a finicky technology that at best doesn't ruin the experience and never enhances it. 3d needs to be killed. no 3d glasses exist that arent permanently scratched and fogged.
once the 3d glasses are smudged, your film is ruined, money is wasted
