I have a real distinct urge to see Grav in proper IMAX. Even if it's double the price, I think it's probably the way it's meant to be seen.
A Few Good Men 9/10 This was really good. Also, I... don't think I've ever seen a Jack Nicholson movie before. The man's magnetic, though - now I want to watch all of his films.
How did you guys find carrie?

Gravity (2013) 9/10 fucking incredible Now to watch Captain Philips
How did you guys find carrie?
Unnecessary.
Evil Dead 2 Quite a good comedy, not as good of a spooky movie as the first. I also didn't enjoy the effects as much. The Deadites in the first looked much better than in this one. However, there were some nice stop-motion bits that I enjoyed. I also didn't really care for the abridged recap at the beginning. Overall, though, I really enjoyed it. It may not be as good of a spooky movie as the first, but like Alien to Aliens, it is still an amazing movie, even if it is a different genre. Now to get to Army of Darkness sometime.
The Car - 9/10 Great movie. Also, the car is badass and looks like something Satan himself would drive, just look at this evil beast.
The Shining is my favorite Nicholson movie aside from Tim Burton's Batman.
why are we bolding everything

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 7/10 The animation is very pretty - I love how elastic and mobile these movies are, plus the food looks real and delicious. This is pretty much Puns: The Movie for a good 1/3 of the runtime, so if you like that sort of humor (I do) it builds on the other jokes for a great time. Unfortunately, the writing is pretty weak. Despite the fact that the returning characters are just as great as before, the plot feels largely recycled (or should I say composted) and the antagonist just isn't compelling. Compared to the very well-written character- and relationship-based plot of the original, this falls flat. Overall, this is a fun romp that is not as good as the first but still largely enjoyable in its own right.
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns (Part 1 and 2) 7/10 Peter Weller is a fantastic old Batman, the animation looks nice, the action is pretty great but overall it's a pretty good Batman story but not Miller's best. That would Batman: Year One. This story would be glorious to the 'Batman is best superhero' club but I dunno, this story always reminded me of Miller's wanking of the Batman character that became more apparent later on. [sp]Superman becoming US's pawn was a weird out of character thing back then and it still is today. Golden Age, Silver Age, Bronze Age, Post-Crisis/Pre-Flashpoint nor New 52 Superman would ever force themselves to become a Government operative, let alone follow orders to fight Batman (his friend). Reluctantly participating as an active operative in war is also grossly out of character. Faster than a speeding bullet? I guess not. But then this is an elseworlds story so whatever.[/sp]

I loved how they blatantly ignore the fact that [sp]Supes few hours before survived a nuclear explosion, and the final shot was made by Green Arrow.[/sp] It's a good story, very Millerish; with badass quotes but absolutely a bad example when speaking about Batman and Superman relationship. I really hope the 2015 live action film won't take too much out of TDKReturns.
Monsters University 7/10 I miss Boo and the shenanigans she gets Mike and Sulley get into

I'm betting the reason that most people remember this story is because of that fight at the end. It's also a classic example of Superman completely forgetting his own powers, namely his supersenses and superspeed. Which is funny since the story was written before Byrne toned down Superman's powers and[sp]taking nukes to the face wouldn't even faze Bronze Age Superman.[/sp] I'm hoping the 2015 film being more revolved around the creation of Superman and Batman's stronger-than-adamantium friendship rather seeing these two guys fight each other.
Pacific Rim 7.5/10 I didn't remember any of the characters names but the action and cgi was some of the best I've seen. Amazing concept

Something like that was almost made in Nolan's trilogy, but Rachel leaving Bruce was the only example, and it wasn't a really good plotline to begin with. I could see their friendship to become something like: "I know I can always count on you and you'll always be there, but you will always keep distance". And if DC/Warner want to have Justice League working at all, they have to tune Supes' powers. Like, what was already established in Man of Steel (it was my favourite aspect of showing the origins - the beginning of supervision and superhearing, shame it was so short) will be sufficient.
his story always reminded me of Miller's wanking of the Batman character that became more apparent later on.
I suspect this may not have been Miller's intent (oh well) but I think The Dark Knight Returns (if I say TDKR you think Rises, if I say Returns you think Batman Returns, darn it Hollywood) works better if you assume Batman is not supposed to be sympathetic all the time. We root for Batman, sure, but we also see all his old friends and allies - Gordon, Clark, Alfred - express their doubts and worries as they become further removed from him (except for the more radical Green Arrow). The real audience analogue is Carrie Kelley, who has grown up in this weirdo landscape, full of mutant thugs, where Batman hasn't been seen since she was a small child. She's almost like a Burt Ward Robin at first, laughing off Batman's request, having fun with all the acrobatics, using just a slingshot as a weapon. But when she sees how dark and serious the world - and Batman - really are, she sobers up and realizes she must face this thing differently.
[sp]...Superman would ever force themselves to become a Government operative, let alone follow orders to fight Batman (his friend). Reluctantly participating as an active operative in war is also grossly out of character.[/sp]
The closest thing I can think of is in Legends (1986, same year as this but in-continuity) where Superman obeys President Reagan's reluctant order for all superheroes to stand down. He disagrees with the decision but respects the order, although inaction you may disagree with is very different from action you may disagree with. (the superheroes eventually break the order, inspiring the President to withdraw it)
[sp]Faster than a speeding bullet? I guess not.[/sp]
[sp]The thing about this fight (and nearly every Super/Bats fight) is that Bruce is going for the kill while Clark is trying to talk him down without hurting him. Batman even derisively complains that "now he's talking - trying to reason with me". Heck, earlier in the comic Superman moves faster than the eye can see, stops a speeding train, heat-visions guns to slag, ties up a crook with metal pipes, and uses his heat-vision and super-hearing from near-orbit with great precision. The fight is more symbolic than "who would win?"[/sp]
Rewatched Diary of the Dead, 5/10. I kinda liked this one when I first watched it, after it came out but now that I've seen it again, I can easily see why people hate this one. The acting is middle-school level for the most part, the effects suck, the characters are bland and forgettable (besides the amish dude, goddamn) and the general Romero message only really comes out in the last minute or so.
Crimson Tide Very compelling, well filmed and outstanding performances from the whole cast. It's predictable at times, but my nails were still all bitten off by the end. If you like military thrillers this is a must watch. oh, and my favorite quote: "you don't put on a condom until you're gonna fuck!" 8/10
Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol Not much to say, better than 2, but the first and third remain better in my opinion. One thing I noticed and I usually just ignore it is this fim is filled with a lot of blatant product placement.
Survival of the Dead 4/10 On top of being overly comedic at times, this movie is fucking BORING! It's heavy on dialogue that isn't very interesting, the action is kinda neato though (watching a guy getting his scalp torn off was more than a little unsettling).
Pan's Labyrinth Beautiful movie, really makes me want to go on a del Toro binge. The characters are very well written, the visuals are stunning, and everything just works so well. I don't understand why some people refuse to watch foreign films because "I don't want to read, I want to watch a movie to be lazy!" This film was fantastic, and I recommend it to everyone.

Hence why I did say that it was a bad example to use for the whole 'Batman vs Superman' debate. Yeah that fight is more symbolic than 'accurate', more meaningful for Batman than Superman though considering I still think of Supes' background in The Dark Knight Returns to be way out of character from the main portrayals of Superman. But like I said, it's an elseworlds story, so I suppose anything goes.
Return of the Living Dead Good, fun zombie movie for those tired of the old Romero-esque clichés. The zombies are fun and refreshing. The characters are generic but likable. A really good movie for fans of the genre if you haven't seen it yet. My only gripe is the ending. [sp]Just having a nuke to end it all seemed a little cop-out-ish.[/sp] Overall, though, still very enjoyable. Are the sequels any good?

Saw The Counselor tonight. Really don't know what to think of this one. The dialog reminded me a lot of The Sunset Limited, another McCarthy joint, and left me with the same feeling at the end. But the difference between the two is that Sunset had a thread to follow, while Counselor was disjointed and rough around the edges. I hear that a lot was cut on the editing floor which wouldn't surprise me. I'd love to see the uncut version on DVD some day. Gut reaction is a 7/10, but I'll have to sleep on it.
Gravity 7/10 Great movie, incredible visual effects, the occasional lingering shots with minimal sound gave the whole film an amazing atmosphere, but the ending was just... bad. Considering how bleak the movie was throughout and how everything that could go wrong did go wrong [sp]Ryan surviving just didn't fit the film's mood, the inspirational dream sequence was total bullshit and the movie should've just ended when she turned off the oxygen and waited for death. also 5 minutes of sandra bullock trying to bark at a radio was not necessary at all[/sp]
Peter Jackson's King Kong 9.5/10 Amazing movie.
