speaking of which what would be a good general thesis for HoD?
From what I know of Heart of Darkness from Apocalypse Now, I'd probably write something about the obsessions of men. Also, I'd probably watch the Redux version for some extra material.
Ender's Game- 2/5 Had no expectations of this and didn't think it would be great but its pretty bad. Boring and terribly directed, mostly mediocre acting, some better than others but nothing of any note. Cool to see Harrison Ford on screen again. A lot less intellectual than it thinks it is and very little political ethic behind it except from near the very end and it's pretty much all from like one monologue Harrison Ford gives. It's very cheesy and the dialogue is terrible. It jumped over time far too much and it was clearly forced into a feature film's running time, it doesn't flow well nor does it feel believable how quickly Ender advances as well as how good he is. Tbh this film is quite dumb and uninspired and cliche. There is also pretty much no antagonist and I guess that's the point, and while I can see that working in novel form fine it doesn't work for a Hollywood film. It just feels like there's no concequence and there is absolutely zero depth to the film. Amazing CGI but that doesn't make the film good. Lots of unintentional comedy. That big black dude was fucking hilarious so was Ben Kingsley. Neither were meant to be, that's for sure. Read some stuff about the book compared to the film and it seems to have MUCH more going for it in terms of depth and motivation. Everyone in the film is either a two dimensional non-character or a cutout character with also nothing to them. Do not recommend this. An inconsequential boring slog where nothing happens for 2 hours. [editline]6th November 2013[/editline] Watch Starship Troopers instead
Well thats exactly what I feared. Also see what I mean about misusing/shittily interpreting source material

It's got the motive of journey, war, struggle and the mad man paving the way. I'm on a SF spree with Moon and Oblivion. What should I watch next?(Besides the obvious Gravity)
Aguirre was Coppola's biggest influence in making Apocalypse Now. Not to discredit Coppola but he pretty much copied Herzog's stlye. Imo it's a more visceral journey and an even better look into the mind of someone losing their grasp on reality. The scene where Aguirre locks eyes with the horse as he drifts away is one of the best and most powerful moments I've seen in cinema. I'm not even sure why... It's just incredible. Filled me with indescribable emotion.
Enders Game wasnt THAT bad. Id give it a 6/10
Point Break 7/10 pretty good, and for some reason I found it very funny in parts. Keanu Reeves isn't the greatest actor in the world, but I still thought he was decent. I didn't buy that [sp]special agent Utah got emotionally connected to the group of surfers. I mean, we see him chill out with them a couple of times and then when he's up against them doing his mission he's like "noo not my bff"[/sp]. Aside from that "hiccup" I'd say watch if if you like cop movies.
Anybody here seen Rush and/or Escape Plan? Should I see those [in the theater]? How about The Last Stand, is that worth a rental?

Going to see Bad Grandpa on Saturday with a bunch of friends. Expecting it to be shitty but stupid/funny
I'm writing a comparative paper on the book Heart of Darkness, then I'm gonna watch Apocalypse Now. Never read the book before and I saw the movie a while ago, so I'll rewatch that too speaking of which what would be a good general thesis for HoD?
watch apocalypse now redux no excuses
watch The Last Stand only if you're interested in seeing Arnold. He's not great in it, but it's nice to see him again onscreen. A part from that it's quite bad.
at least arnold has a damn fine closing line in that movie
RoboCop - 10/10 I'd buy that for a dollar.
I decided to watch a couple of weird movies yesterday: Pi: 4/5 Interesting, dark, and gritty. I liked it, but there's barely any replay value. Rubber: 3/5 (So far ) It's about a tire. With telekinetic abilities. That can make things explode. It can get very slow at times. I couldn't finish it, but I'll probably finish it today.
The Worlds End - 9/10 Fucking love Simon Pegg/Nick Frost. Great comedy movie, I'd watch it again.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail Saw it again, still a classic. 9/10
Monty Python and the Holy Grail Saw it again, still a classic. 9/10
And here comes Rusty...
And here comes Rusty...
I'll take this one. Holy Grail is unfunny lolsorandumb humor that is only funny to idiots with a low IQ.
The worlds end 7/10 There is some solid dialouge in this movie, i found it to be one of the best parts about the movie. Didn't care much for the ending though.
I'll take this one. Holy Grail is unfunny lolsorandumb humor that is only funny to idiots with a low IQ.
thats not a very good rusty impression tbh i would have said the holy grail is a monstrous turd that rides out on either nostalgia or people with malformed brains to enjoy it's moronic and effortless 'random' 'comedy'
"People can't like things I don't like, if they do they are wrong and dumb" [editline]7th November 2013[/editline] I also don't see how its "random comedy", unless you say that about any comedy that is skit based.
I also don't see how its "random comedy", unless you say that about any comedy that is skit based.
rabbit eats people - for no reason cut down a tree with a herring - for no reason shrubberies - no reason spamalot - no reason there's no intelligent connections between anything. it's all intentionally as random and wacky as possible. which takes no talent whatsoever to write. that is not good writing. that is effortless and stupid writing. lol banana spaghetti ROFLS spam HAHA
Watched Vertigo after hearing the song Carlotta Valdez by Harvey Danger recently. Solid 8/10, I really liked the first half or so, but it sort of spiraled after [sp]Kim Novak's character fakes her death[/sp] It felt very evenly paced until then, and then just got weird. Definitely an unexpected ending, and Jimmy Stewart is an incredible actor.
rabbit eats people - for no reason
The joke is that the vicious and horrible monster is not something large and grotesque (like the animated monster seen) but something small and (apparently) harmless. Is the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters "effortless and stupid" because it doesn't make sense for a friendly mascot to attack a city? How about "That's a big twinkie"? Gee, what a stupid line. Why would a man of science like Egon explain things to Winston with twinkies instead of SI units? That Ramis is a hack fraud. I will say that absurdist humor doesn't work for everyone, but some of my favorite jokes are the silly throwaway gags. "Sir Not-Appearing-In-This-Film" portrayed as a baby in a suit, the hand turning the book's pages being grabbed by a gorilla (who then proceeds to turn the pages for the viewer), or lampshading the low budget by discussing the coconuts...

That Ramis is a hack fraud.
not even close to a good comparison regardless of whether or or not the holy grail is a good movie [editline]7th November 2013[/editline] those ghostbusters examples are setups or punchlines, while the examples in holy grail are the jokes themselves
In both cases the protagonists are about to face a formidable enemy, and as such are prepared for a horrible monster. However, they are caught off guard by the relatively silly appearance of the beast, and the audience laughs at how funny it is. Regardless of its appearance, the heroes must fight it off as it still poses a serious threat. [sp]second one was a bad example tho[/sp]
so then the black knight having his limbs cut off but continuing to fight and talk shit to king arthur is effortless and stupid? or the castle anthrax, or lancelot going on his killing spree, or the historian?
