so then the black knight having his limbs cut off but continuing to fight and talk shit to king arthur is effortless and stupid?
or the castle anthrax, or lancelot going on his killing spree, or the historian?
yes. they are stupid. i would probably have less of a problem with them if they were played far more straight. leslie nielsen style. but the acting is just as wacky as it's randomness and it really rubs me the wrong way.

look, this is coming from a guy who loved monty python more than anything as a little kid. at the age where you watch the simpsons and don't understand it, but think it's funny anyway because of it's delivery. the difference between the two is that you grow up and realise the simpsons is incredibly smart and often very snappy social commentary, and monty python is just really fucking dumb and has almost no meaning to anything it does. it's like family guy, but without any parody (not that i'm supporting family guy one iota i think it's fucking horrendous but at least you can connect it's dots sometimes).

Also, watched two other movies:
Hobo with a Shotgun: 4/5
Rutger Hauer. If you don't like him, watch it for the over-the-top gore and music.
It came from Ray Harryhausen: 5/5
A documentary about Harryhausen's work in movies. I enjoyed it.
Thor The Dark World - I loved it. If you're following the Avengers universe, this is one you're going to want to see right away. I wouldn't wait for DVD/Netflix. Honestly I can say this was probably the best Avengers/Marvel film to date. Only went to the premier to hang out with friends, not because I was extremely pumped for the movie. I was completely expecting a repeat of Iron Man 2, only to find a movie that completely raised the bar for the Avengers series. The plot was pretty creative, which led to an amazing climax.
freddy got fingered is shit but good, nobody gets it though
Intolerance
save me/10
It drags on and on and on and on and on oh god why did I pick this hystory of cinema class.
Take "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" for example. I feel like I'm the only person on planet earth who likes that story as much as I do.
Oh thank God! After a long, long time, the search is finally over!

there's no intelligent connections between anything. it's all intentionally as random and wacky as possible. which takes no talent whatsoever to write. that is not good writing. that is effortless and stupid writing. lol banana spaghetti ROFLS spam HAHA
It takes no talent to write random nowadays, but back then, random was an absolutely genius and revolutionary idea. You're just jaded because of all the dipshits nowadays who think being random equates to saying "spork" or "muffin" for no goddamn reason.
Fargo is very good. But definitely try and watch Barton Fink, an underrated Coen masterpiece. Their first film with Deakins as DP. It's one of their best. It's on netflix, definitely worth the watch. John Turturro is incredible in it.
Gravity- 4/5
Intense, great story, outstanding cinematography and visuals, incredible use of sound and a great lead performance by Sandra Bullock. One of the best of the year for sure. Emmanuel Lubezki is the best looking cinematographer in mainstream film for sure. The sheer creativity and freedom in the camera is incredible. The floating camera just adds an entirely new dimension to camerawork and Lubezki handles it perfectly. I Gravity also may have the best POV shots I've ever seen. Images that stick out are when Stone goes kinda foetal and is backlight to glow, like she's in the womb. Incredible. And the shot of the ship, then it slowly pans up and we see the Northern Lights in the top of the screen. When I saw them I felt just pure emotion fill my body tbh. And the final bit where [sp]she goes on land[/sp] was beyond stunning. [sp]It was like she was in paradise. It didn't feel Earthly. It doesn't seem like something could look that pretty in real life, even if it's just a beach and grass.[/sp]
I thought the ending was perfect.
Highly recommend it.
Gravity - 8/10
I had only seen the first trailer so I didn't know much about it, thought it was great.
It was quite intense, but the [sp]"oh shit, what now?"-moments got kinda repetitive.[/sp] Effects and cinematography were amazing. Really liked [sp]the atmospheric entry scene.[/sp]
Also, I'm going to see about watching Mulholland Drive sometime this week. I was going to watch it a few days ago, but shit came up at home and I wasn't able to watch it. I swear, I'll make time for it this week, I just need to be in the right mood in order to appreciate it, being a David Lynch movie and all.
I finally got around to watching Mulholland Dr. last month, I watched it a couple more times and now it's one of my favorite movies.
The World's End
I though it was great. Nor better or worse than the other two in the trilogy. 8.5/10
well... saw gravity
couldn't fucking get out of the chair after it finished, this is probably due to bad circulation but goddamn I had a light head and had to regain my orientation (the people I was with had a similar feeling) what the heck did this film do to me :O
The cinema was totally empty, I opted out to see it in proper IMAX, being that it was sold out anyway (it was only released in the UK yesterday), but watched it in a standard large screening. I'm so glad I did; no crunching of popcorns, no muttering and shuffling when I figured the film would be very quiet beforehand. Seeing it with the people you love and connect with is the way to go.
3D, now I've seen a bunch of those films, going back to the first time I experienced it being a space documentary in imax and that was cool. The way things move forward with how it's used is just bewildering;
Avatar with its flashing lights and fairies in your face was sweet and all, but it doesn't even remotely compare to the experience of this film.
The film is ruthless, even though its much quieter and contemplative than I'd thought, its filled with a spirit that moved me into a really relaxed, hypnotic state.
Out of body experience or what.... From both a technological point of view and cinematic, this one goes far. The movie doesn't just strive to be merely a technological showcase, but it has a true introspective and spiritual journey as well. It tackles a character who is broken and depressed.. only heightened by the isolation she's submitted to; yet with great strength and practice she overcomes these burdens in ways that are so relevant to how we can live down here. :)

so if it doesn't deliver some form of social commentary it isn't funny?
poty for how retarded you are bud.
monty python just wasn't funny and was in fact more cringe worthy than anything else
also opinions
Personally my favorite Monty Python film was The Meaning of Life.
Can one just have their own opinion?
If Rusty, Marine and I think Monty Python is trash and you guys think its literally the greatest comedy ever conceived, can't we leave it at that?
monty python is great
for me to poop on!!
Well don't say I didn't try
The Dark Knight Returns - 8/10
Great movie, but jesus christ the last minute of the movie was so stupid. I also didn't like Joker's VA
The Ladykillers (2004) - 5/10
I grabbed The Ladykillers in a buy-one-get-one-free sale at a used video store. I had never heard of this movie before, but I had started watching the Coen Brothers' movies, always enjoy heists, and saw that Hanks, Simmons, and Wayans were starring. I figured that for "free" I could take a chance on it.
Unfortunately, this just wasn't that good. This movie is definitely a weaker outing by the brothers. All the signature ingredients are there - idiosyncratic characters, a unique soundtrack, dark humor - but they just don't come together well. Perhaps the relatively straightforward plot didn't mesh well with their more meandering style, or the relatively large cast wasn't fleshed out enough, but it didn't feel all that great. There were good bits - Tom Hanks as a loquacious southern gentleman was quite entertaining, for one - but those were few and far between and what filled in the gaps just wasn't that entertaining. I did enjoy the sepia-toned southern summer theme.
Perhaps I shall seek out the original 1955 version, to compare and contrast.
All is Lost
Fucking stunning.
The Dark Knight Returns - 8/10

I, on the contrary, think that Michael Emerson did amazing job as new Joker's voice. Although it's different from Mark Hamill version, but I wouldn't be mad if he would become a replacement for Hamill (who wanted a break, if I recall correctly?)
I thought Hamill wanted to retire from the character.
Piranha 3DD 5/10
The acting is laughable, everybody's an asshole or stupid (with the exception of maybe 2 characters) and the effects, while mostly serviceable, sometimes fail at a spectacular level.
It's camp as fuck, it's not trying to be anything highbrow. It's bad but really funny. Go check it.
The Hunger Games- 2/5
Watched this because the trailer for the second one is out and it actually looked really damn good but after seeing this my hopes are dampened.
Not so great at all. I simply don't get the hype... I've not read the books but I understand it already had a pretty big fan base from that but this film was just really boring. Terrible pacing, awful camerawork, melodramatic, a lot of the supporting actors were hammy as all hell. The plot was weak as shit. It touched on but didn't really explore the themes it wanted to. There was zero depth to any of the characters. Every second that little black kid appeared was just cringe. She sucked and all her dialogue and scenes were terrible and cheesy. The villain kids were shitty actors portraying crappy and completely unbelievable cardboard characters. The fashion wasnt just weird and cool it was really dumb.
Bad movie do not recommend.
[editline]9th November 2013[/editline]
Also this film is deus ex machina the movie. Seriously like every single thing just happened to go Katniss' way. Also this film had zero emotional impact at all?? yet I heard people going on about how sad it was and stuff but when all your characters are non characters with zero personality and your director sucks and your script is terrible I fail to see how you can get engaged to a point where you feel legitimate emotion never mind crying or something
Then you must really hate Rubber, an homage to the no reason.
There's a BIG difference between random and absurd.
Rubber was like if Eugene Ionesco took a lot of mescaline and fell asleep on a typewriter.
I liked the book when I read it 5 years ago, but I guess being younger made it seem cooler than it actually was. As I got older, I realized it was aimed more towards the female audience, but it's still an okay book imo. The movie took away many aspects of the books that basically left a shell of a plot in its place (which was kinda necessary because otherwise the running time would be 3+ hours). And of course the whole KATNISS+PEETA 4EVER romance was massively simplified in the movie to appeal to the target audience.
I thought Hamill wanted to retire from the character.
He did, the Joker voice hurts his throat (IIRC Skips is different enough that that voice doesn't hurt). In the new Arkham game it's a different voice actor, but he definitely took a lot of cues from Hamill's performance.
Rush 8/10
Good characters, great 70's look and atmosphere, attention to detail on the cars. The end got kinda cheesy but that's how it really went down so it's ok.
Even if you don't give care about f1 you should watch it. I mean it's got tits and the Thor guy has sex a couple times, so yeah.

troy baker, he definitely borrows from hamill but god damn if you don't get chills while listening to that killing joke monologue...
