Wouldn't surprise me if he hated it. I don't know anyone aside from my girlfriend and my brother in real life who liked it. Everyone else found it boring. I remember someone saying that it was the worst movie he'd ever seen when I was still in high school because it had "too much talking".
I assume that those people who went in and watched it expected an action war movie with Brad Pitt and company running around WWII France, killing nazis. Like you said though, it was badly marketed.
[editline]16th November 2013[/editline]
but DudeGuyKT said that he knew nothing else about the movie except for Jews and Nazis so that was good.
Just got done with Valhalla Rising. I'm still a bit unsure about this one, but maybe it'll grow on me.
"We have many gods. They've only got the one."
Went into this knowing pretty much nothing about this other than Refn considers this his favorite of his movies. I loved the first half, it was really something. The second half dwindled a bit though. My favorite part of it all is the scenery. Every shot is great to look at. I would definitely not recommend this to the average movie-watcher though. It's a very quiet and slow movie. Minimal use of music and almost no dialogue, plus the plot isn't anything huge and it moves at a very slow pace with occasional punctuations of violence. This movie was something, for good or bad I have yet to decide, but I know it'll be a memorable film.

All I knew about this film was that I watched a trailer and wanted to watch it immediately
and damn did it deliver
8/10
My Way, 9/10
God damn why are Korean war movies so good
[editline]16th November 2013[/editline]
had some really corny scenes though, but it's a korean movie so yeah
Jurassic Park is really good, but I think the most impressive part of it was its special effects. It's the perfect popcorn movie.
I just love the atmosphere, personally. Just look how intimidating this shot is and how insignificant the tire tracks look in comparison to the surrounding jungle.

I don't think that's a shot from the movie though. I've seen JP a million times since it's my favorite movie, but I only remember a shot from that angle shot from inside one of the explorers. The colours look more vivid too.

Ah, my instinct didn't fail me:

yeah deffo a photograph...
edit: wtf it's actually an art piece, damn that's good.
The World's End - 7/10
meh fairly dissapointed, definitely the weakest of the trilogy.
not bad on its own though, had lots of laughs
Movie night.
Coming to America 7/10
Some of the jokes fall a little flat and others you see coming from a mile away but we still had lots of laughs watching it.
Starship Troopers 8/10
You know how some movies perfectly encapsulate the time period they were made in? Starship Troopers is basically 90s sci-fi in that regard. It's cheesy as hell and there's a good amount of faces you'll recognize (Neil Patrick Harris who looked a lot younger back then, Clancy Brown, Dean Norris) and the effects all hold up pretty well today (except for some of the dummies for some strange reason). Check it, seriously.
If you mean the original gate, its not there but some of it is left

Actually, that's rather sad. It would've been cool if they just left it up for someone to find one day.
Rush - 7/10
Gravity - 10/10
Bad Grandpa - 6/10
Spring Breakers
8/10
Spring break forevahhhhhhhhhhh
The Hunger Games - 8/10...
Uh, I was promised a bad movie judging by all of the bad ratings people gave this in this thread?
That was really fucking good, despite being remarkably similar to Battle Royale.
Great characterization, acting, action, cool revolt-against-the-corrupt-government story, and the cinematography was really nice save for the over use of shaky cam.

Some people have shit opinions.

that's sad to see, not gonna lie.
but still not as bad as the lars homestead from star wars. whole damn thing has basically been swallowed up in dirt and sand
Red 2 4.5/10
Not even half as good as the first (which wasn't a masterpiece to begin with). The plot is thin and uninteresting, the pacing is plain bad, it isn't funny at all and the only redeemable quality is the action.
I re-watched Pacific Rim a few days ago and it was pretty painful to be honest. Most of the first hour is just plain bad and no amount of robots can make up for it. The Tokyo sequence and ending are the only parts really worth watching.
6/10 maybe i dunno
Django Unchained 8/10
Really enjoyable film. Like all of Tarantino's stuff it was really stylish. My only complaint is that [sp]I wish Candie had gotten more screen time, or lasted longer in the film. We'd just established how crazy he is and then he just died. It felt like the rest of the movie lacked a strong antagonist. However, I did like the rest of the movie and the conclusion was satisfying. I just wanted more crazy racist Leonardo DiCaprio.[/sp]
Gravity, 8/10.
I have no idea how this movie portrays the isolation of space, yet still have a feeling of wonder throughout it's entirety. It's probably due to the fact that it is so damn pretty. I also had low expectations from George Clooney and Sandra Bullock, but they were both actually very good, Sandra especially in the later half of the movie.
Fun fact [sp] that bit with Calvin Candie wiping blood on Hilda's face was actually real. Leo got so into the scene that he cut his hand on the table and decided he'd go the extra mile. [/sp]
Dang. [sp]I remember reading that he hurt himself in that scene but I didn't think about it while watching.[/sp]
Iron Man 3 - 8.7/10 [sp]shut up about The Mandarin twist, it was awesome[/sp]
The Worlds End - 9/10
Europa Report - 7/10
X-Men Origins: Wolverine [Workprint] - 1/5

A "workprint" is an incomplete version of a film. All the shots are done and edited into sequence, but the rest has not been finished yet. The soundtrack may not be recorded (using pre-existing scores instead) or edited into the film (resulting in rough cuts), ADR is incomplete (the dialogue may be unmixed or simply a caption), CG effects (or green-screens) are unpolished or simply blocked in, slo-mo or rotated shots have not been polished, and so forth. It is meant to give a good idea of the final product for finalization purposes. It also gives /tv/ endless laughs when leaked.
Here's the final battle with "Deadpool", as seen in the workprint.
This movie is not good at all. Even looking past the crudeness (and unintentional comedy) of the effects and editing, what's left is a shambles of bad writing, mediocre acting, and cliche after cliche. The endless "twists" simply leave the viewer frustrated rather than adding depth or tension. None of the characters beyond Wolverine are explored at all - they're given a gimmick (their mutant power) and a broad personality (gruff general/cowboy/sharpshooter/old man) and a scene where they interact with Wolverine. Liev Schrieber was good, I guess.
It adds no depth to the film series or characters - Wolverine loses his memory at the end, and most of the supporting cast dies, is never seen again, or is written completely different elsewhere. In the end, this feels like a story that did not need to be told, or at least should have been told better.
The Way Way Back
3/5
Eh, good not great. Sam Rockwell was the film's saving grace, in my opinion.
watch white house down
maybe then youll realize how much a pos olympus is
White House Down was a teenage version of Olympus. Dispite Jamie and Channing being kinda funny, it wasnt that great.
Apocalypse Now Redux - 10/10
Wow, this was a fucking incredible experience after reading Heart of Darkness.
It was cool to see just how much it parallels with the book (especially the beginning). So much stuff I missed the first time I watched it.
I'm in love with The Doors.

The Act of Killing (documentary)
uhhhh, god this film made me feel physically ill. I've seen some crazy stuff but when you realise what the film is trying to do you just feel angry and so ridiculous.
Basically the premise.... Indonesian paramilitary officers are given the opportunity to re-enact their roles in the massacre in a hollywood style. At first I was just horrified by how little they empathised with the reality of their actions.
All through the fucking film these people were just so proud about the entire thing. This country is still ridiculously fucked up when it comes to communism. They're proud to have gangsters "do the work".
As the film progresses into this really filthy Herzog horror film, I was just struggling to get with it.
I've seen a ton of documentaries but this really bridges the gap... just disgusting and soulless. It probably is one of the most important docs to be released recently, but it really isn't for the average watch.
I didn't realise Herzog was producing until now so it kind of made sense in the end why he'd attach to this project. I could call this the apocalypse now of documentaries (probably more Aguirre though)
All in all, .. it's probably something most people need to see, but please be careful, it's disturbs the soul. I saw the extended version which probably wasn't a good idea. :X
