Started watching The Happening. Mark Wahlberg playing a scientist and accepting 'it's a force of nature we can't understand deal with it' as a good answer. We're off to a GREAT start.

We're off to a GREAT start.
Yeah, I watched The Happening expecting some rather horrific and bloody deaths. I was rather disappointed, [sp]especially when the guy runs himself over with the lawn mower.[/sp]
The Happening is absolutely hilarious Don Jon- 4/5 Joseph Gordon Levitt's feature directorial debut. He also writes and stars. Really enjoyed this, actually. It's a pretty light 4 but I feel like a 3 isn't quite doing justice. It's a really enjoyable film. Clever, well written, witty, funny, good acting, good drama, and enough depth with some strong messages throughout to keep you thinking. I loved that Barbara [sp]was a pretty bad person, who just used John to get what she wanted, using her sexuality and appearance as leverage, with an outdated and sexist mindset.[/sp] Because to me that's what makes this film stand way out from the rest of the rom-coms. The ending is a happy one but not one you'd expect. Hell, John even says [sp]he doesn't want to marry Esther, and he doesn't want kids, and neither does she. And that's okay.[/sp] I'd have been really angry and the film would have been ruined if John [sp]ended up with Barbara again[/sp] but I'm glad he didn't. I love the irony and contrasts here. Both John and Barbara don't agree with each other's views on relationships/sex- John because he has built an unrealistic picture of women through porn, and Barbara because she's also built an unrealistic picture of men and relationships through cheesy hollywood rom-coms. neither can separate fiction from reality (I love the bit when Esther tells John offhand that porn isn't real sex and he can't comprehend that) Like, Barbara wants to change John... the scene at the store when [sp]John wants to get swiffer pads or whatever and Barbara is furious at him for doing a woman's job, really made me hate her. And before that there's the scene where she makes him cum in his pants but won't actually sleep with him, just to tease him and show she's not a slut cos she wants to be a girl from one of those movies. Such a bitch[/sp] All in all this is a really really solid debut, with enough of everything and it hits just about every mark. Highly recommended. [editline]21st November 2013[/editline] I also enjoyed John's character arc and Barbara's [sp]lack thereof[/sp] pretty powerful stuff throughout
And that's The Happening finished. What can I say, it's awful. The performances are abysmal, the dialogue is fucked and the story is ridiculous. It's also absolutely hilarious. The line delivery by Wahlberg and Deschanel is so delightfully off you can't help but smile.
Mulholland Drive Creepy at parts and confusing but the acting and camera work was good. Overall a, what did I just watch/10.
Why do we need to have this rusty debate every couple of pages? We all know rusty is often blunt and rude in his opinions. Just move on.
Because anyone else would be banned for posting and derailing like he often does, he barely even moderates anymore besides clicking jewdozer away. On Topic: Saw The Bling Ring with friends and it was awful. Can't believe it's from S. Coppola who also did "Lost in Translation". Her usual "distance" to her material was really wrong for this movie as all you do is hate the kids. When you want the viewer to build his own opinon you at least have to provide a sort of neutral perspective but the way the actors acted and the material itself just said "look we are stupid shits" and I understand that it's meant to be sort of "look it's symptomatic for todays society". It just doesn't work. Anyone with brains enough to understand the issue probably despises the whole celeb and gossip stuff anyways and anyone where critical thinking would be useful is too retarded and busy with reading TMZ to get it.
This Is The End - 8/10 Was both refreshing and hilarious to see Michael Cera play such a drastically different version of himself, same goes for most of the movie. Some real funny moments ([sp]Channing Tatum as Danny McBride's gimp, James Franco's ascent being abruptly canceled, fucking Backstreet Boys[/sp]), a real good movie.

I don't see what's wrong with dick jokes. I mean as long as they are actually funny I'm alright with them. In a Seth Rogen and co. movie you always have to expect drugs and dick jokes, that's like part of the ingredients.

i dont know what that means but seth rogen and co are always funny so whatever
I've heard The Guilt Trip is terrible.
it looked terrible but that was just Seth Rogen and not the Apatow crew. Those guys together are consistently great. Superbad, Pineapple Express, 40 Year Old Virgin, fuckin Freaks and Geeks funny dudes [editline]22nd November 2013[/editline] also theres some new posters for Lars von Trier's Nymphomaniac and I'm reminded of how much I love the tagline ("Forget about love") i dont even know why but I think it's incredible. Maybe just because I have an idea of what the film's about and an understanding of von Trier's mindset and all that. its cool as hell. [editline]22nd November 2013[/editline] the more i think the more I realise Lars von Trier may be my favourite director like ever [editline]22nd November 2013[/editline] keep seeing Antichrist on netflix and getting the urge to watch it again. Think I will. Somehow managed to pick up a copy of Breaking The Waves for a fiver the other day as well, which is apparently quite a feat since it's rare as hell and hasn't been re-released since 2003 and those copies are very hard to find
The World's End 5/5 Gave it a re-watch. Honestly, it might not be as funny as Shaun or Fuzz, but damn, it struck a chord with me. Plus, I found it funnier the second time round.

The first time it was tainted because for some reason I got caught up in this nostalgic sadness that I feel when I watch the movie. The second time I was able to push past that and experience how great the writing is.
Event Horizon- 7/10 Solid movie with a decent premise, but I can't help but feel like they overdid it on the gore.
t "ok so here fassbender says this then this mexican dude does this and then fassbender cries very emotionally" and it just doesnt feel right. like its just words, theres no weight behind them.
I mean that's just the way McCarthy is. I guess I can push past the writing because I've read a few of his books and watched The Sunset Limited a few times so I'm pretty used to it. I've seen a few movies recently that did what The Counselor was trying to do but better, but I still think it's an alright flick. I'd still give it a 6.5 to a 7.
Tombstone - 8/10 Damn fine performances and damn fine mustaches all around. This movie does a solid job of wrangling a large cast while staying enjoyable and focused. At times, it got a bit too over-the-top (no doubt due to Cosmatos' direction) but when it was good it was good indeed. Funny thing, with all the facial hair and old western accents it sometimes took me several scenes before I could recognize an actor.
Heat SHES GOT A GREAT ASS/10
Heat SHES GOT A GREAT ASS/10
I didn't like that movie.
Full trailer for Nymphomaniac just dropped. I can tell it's going to be fantastic. Some great insights here without really ruining anything. Looks horribly raw and gripping. I can tell it's going to be a fucking slog but in the best of ways. I feel like von Trier is on top form going by this. I think it's gonna be an Epic and goddamn I cannot wait for that- I'm interested, although not really worried, about von Trier giving up final cut for the first time though. Since the film came out at a massive 5 hours and he couldn't cut it down to 2 1/2- but I think now the decision is two 2-hour films? I'm not sure. It's all in the air. Either way, I hope there'll be a way to watch the full uncut 5 hour version. That'd be an absolute experience. [editline]22nd November 2013[/editline] definitely nsfw. Looks like it's not holding back at all, not that I expected it to. [editline]22nd November 2013[/editline]
Not yet. It'll be doing the festival circuit before theatrical I assume. I'm sure Trier will want to get it into Cannes before cinemas which is in May. It'll probably come out like autumn-winter next year. But yeah Von Trier is one of my all-time favourites. Check out Breaking The Waves, Dogville and Dancer In The Dark. In order that's my favourites. Antichrist maybe would be third but I know you've seen it. Melancholia is very good as well but I was slightly underwhelmed (still recommend it if you like him though) I've only seen Breaking The Waves once but I've noticed recently i cite it as my favourite film.
rewatched Melancholia recently, liked it better second time round. Real dream-like quality to the film. [editline]22nd November 2013[/editline] speaking of dream-like,... saw Last Year at Marienbad at about 2 in the morning. yeah... bent my mind a bit. I'm not talking David Lynch tier, I'm talking the very top of the iceberg mind mashing. It flows just like a dream, not "calm" like most people think, but erratic... changing and flowing into different places. It's really the closest a film has come for a film to resemble dreams, no kidding. It ends with not much being told except a lot of remnants of some kind of story involving life and death. I have no clue who would like this film, maybe French New Wavists..
Seeing how every next film of Von Trier pushes the borders even further, I guess his next film will be just a simple hardcore porn.
I dunno if I could handle Nymphomaniac. It's really hard for me to stomach sex in films. Looks REALLY fucking good, though.
