scott pilgrim is a piece of unfunny garbage
[editline]11th May 2013[/editline]
That's called humour. You clearly aren't familiar with Edgar Wright's style.
edgar wright's style fell totally flat with such a terrible source material. if even edgar wright can't make scott pilgrim funny i dont dare read the comic.
the comic effects were jarring and awful, the comedy was unfunny and usually random for the sake of random, there was absolutely no chemistry between the main cast, ramona was fridig and unlikable, and it was jam packed with awkward video game references that feel shoehorned in to win over the video games audience 'hah hah!!! i understand that reference!!!! this movie is just for me!!!!!'
I agree that Ramona is a shitty character but I found the movie very enjoyable as a whole.
Anyone know any feel good movies like Eternal sunshine and hugo
I need something to make me cry like a man
just saw evil dead remake
just like, i dunno man.
it was just so different. i feel like what they were going for was to make the equivalent of the original, but for 2013. like, the evil dead for the new generation that's already so used to violence and horror, by upping the ante. that's pretty much all it was I feel. like, I liked it. but it had none of the charm. there were some really nice shots and a shitload of gore, but it doesn't hold a candle. there's something about sam raimi, bruce campbell and horror that just clicks like nothing else will.
a (student?) film on a shoestring budget from 1981 still has more directing flare and charm than any modern horror could hope to achieve (don't even get me started on evil dead 2).
i give it a something out of a something. undecided.
it was definitely way way way better than any other horror of recent years.
not even as good as drag me to hell though
The Cabin in the Woods?
The Cabin in the Woods?
That's a comedy, it's not a horror movie by any means.

Hey didnt you ask a similar question in the recommendation thread quite awhile back?
That's a comedy, it's not a horror movie by any means.
I'd have called it a horror-comedy, but I guess you're right.
The Predator - Good/10
Repeaters 8/10
The Truman Show - 10/10
Great film overall
Red Dawn - 0/10. Absolutely shit. So cheesy. Such bad acting. Don't bother.
Finally got round to watching "The Breakfast Club".
I'll give it a 9/10, I really enjoyed it. Excellent soundtrack and I just found it quite beautiful really.
Red Dawn - 0/10. Absolutely shit. So cheesy. Such bad acting. Don't bother.
Depends on which version you're talking about. The original Red Dawn I liked for it's cheesy quality, but the newer version just has... Josh Peck.
drive- 4/10
only way they couldve made it worse is if bruce campbell was cast

The Godfather 10/10 Fantastic movie
Your friends are smart, though too bad they didn't just stop being friends with you after that, that would have been even smarter.
Man, you people are fucking evil sometimes.
Anyways, saw Gatsby tonight. It took some liberties with the source material and played almost as a romanticized version of the story from Gatsby's point of view...but I enjoyed it quite a bit. The acting was much better than the trailers made it out to be, and the cinematography, lighting, and sets were gorgeous. Haven't decided on a rating, but it's probably an 8, maybe 9 out of 10, in my opinion.
Word of caution: If you don't like Baz Luhrmann's style of filmmaking (think Moulin Rouge with less jump cuts) or if you were hoping the movie would be very true to the book...you can probably take a pass on this one. It is style over substance in some ways, but I still felt it to be charming nonetheless, and that's coming from someone who loved the book and the original movie with Robert Redford.
aaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Eh, I stand by it. For what it was, I enjoyed it and if that's an unpopular opinion, so be it.
The Cabin in the Woods?
cabin in the woods was definitely more interesting, but also more of a comedy/love letter to horror. wheras this was a serious attempt at bone chilling horror gore.

Sacco e Vanzetti - 9.5/10
An movie that should be overlooked, very overlooked. The film is a Italian docudrama, It is a very rare film, but I was able to get a hold of the Italian blu-ray on Ebay (which also has the english dub). The film surrounds the events of the Sacco and Vanzetti 7-year issue where two men were suspected of a robbery. After 7 years of imprisonment, trials. The two were executed. Their trial was unfairly tried and the men were mostly executed for their political beliefs, and the two have received a posthumous pardon since then. The film stars an all-star Italian cast, including Gian Maria Volonte (villain from Fistful of Dollars), and Richard Cucciolla. The film is a 2 hour courtroom drama. I was amazed how intense the film gets after 30 minutes. The score is provided by Italian composer Ennio Morricone (All of the Dollars movies, The Untouchables, and a personal favorite of mine, Orca the Killer Whale.). There is also songs sung by Joan Baez, who's iconic theme song for the film is perhaps famously known in Metal Gear Solid.
The film is a underrated masterpiece of cinema, the Italian blu-ray is worth the money all the way. The score, acting, and english dub is done perfectly.

I am quite frustrated this film doesn't have a good rating on Rotten Tomatoes

At least the audience knows what a masterpiece is

Great Gatsby. 10/10. Best movie I've ever seen in my entire life.
Anyone who hates it needs to enjoy the movie for what it is.
so many movies i have watched
leon the professional - pretty good, i really loved the ending. based natalie portman
saving private ryan - haven't seen this in like 5 years. holds up pretty well, definitely worth watching.

event horizon - this one surprised me. was pretty spooky, and i liked the atmosphere and shit
friday - the blackest movie
black dynamite - scratch that, this is THE blackest movie ever

Yeah...while it was a pretty decent movie, you need to see more movies if you consider that the best you've ever seen
you need to see more movies if you consider that the best you've ever seen
It has everything a person could want. Action, romance and humor. It's good.
Also, stop liking what I don't like general.
I Am Legend 8/10, the loneliness aspect was done really well and you could really feel it when [sp]he tried to cure that girl and failed and the death of his dog.[/sp]
Jaws: The Revenge - 1/10
How can a shark want revenge? It makes no fucking since. This movie is so goddamn fucking horrible and terrible, it's like watching I Spit on Your Grave (another horrible movie) but with the shark as the girl and Lorraine Gary as the rapist. Except, the girl is blown magically by a ship's bow, and the rapists win in a very happy ending. Listen, do not see this movie. Watch Jaws II or if you can survive it, Jaws III. BUT NOT THIS. NEVER THIS
pros:
some of the music
movie poster
cons:
everything else
movie poster if you want to know why I liked it

Cloud Atlas (2013)
I've been waiting some time to see this and it didn't disappoint. It's rather slow to get going and I wondered an hour in if I was going to get hooked in but towards the end you start to understand the concept of the film on a deeper level. Theres a few senarios with similar themes. Some of these themes were similar to the ideas behind the Matrix films without it disappearing up its own asshole.
Over all it was a wonderful experience b ut not a film I could sit through again. It's very sad to see a film like this sink so quickly and I hope over time it gains a bit of a cult status.
