Yeah prior to seeing it, I expected it to be a two-fer movie with reflections of both actors capabilities. Turned out it was more a introspective film but it managed to pull in that direction well enough for me.
Serenity Ended up liking it a lot more than I thought I would. Beginning was a little slow, and I didn't really get what they were going for with the movie until later on, partially because it sorta felt like I was watching a series, not sure if that was intentional because of the whole Firefly thing, but it felt like some parts were just too disconnected from each other. Anyway, that doesn't make it bad. It certainly has its charm, and I have to say what really kept me interested was Nathan Fillion's character, IMO he just carries this movie. Overall, I'd still pick something like Riddick over this movie, but I did enjoy it.
Have you seen Firefly? Just out of curiosity.
Hunger Games: Catching Fire 10/10 it was a HUGE improvement over the first. I can't wait for the next one.
So The Grandmaster is a retake on IP-Man?
Yes, but tells a different version of his story, in a very different way. But yes, it's the same character with the same background.
The Raid: Redemption. 8/10 Very good action movie, the second movie's trailer got me interested in the first one/the series overall so it'll be interesting when it comes out.
Have you seen Firefly? Just out of curiosity.
No, I kinda want to, but I'll just wait til I'm done with some of the movies I'm planning on watching first Is it as good as most of FP makes it out to be?
I saw the Carrie remake and wrote some stuff about it but I forgot my phones browser refreshes itself if you leave the browser basically 2/5. Lame. Sometimes awful. Moretz is miscast, she's too conventionally pretty and even aside that doesn't nail the role. The violence is gratuitous and drawn out. Every scene goes on unnecessarily long. The direction has no style or flair like the original, it just feels like another modern horror film. Definitely doesnt capture the feel of the original and fails to create its own image. Also it has a very idealised view of teenage life which annoyed me. And John Travoltas character in the original is barely in it at all abs is as two dimensional as it gets. Such a cliche douchebag and all that stuff. The climax at prom is offensively badly done Also the last shot was just the icing on the cake for desecrating the original- [sp]it's at her grave and the girl who felt bad for her puts flowers down. Then her gravestone start. Shaking and cracking like she's still alive and setting it up for a sequel. Horrific.[/sp] [editline]4th December 2013[/editline] They also forced sympathy on literally every character, unnecessarily so, so I didn't know what to feel for a Lot of the film. Do not recommend, especially if you're a fan of the original like I am.
i understand its a remake but geez why did they have to show the entire movie on the trailer for carrie? [editline]4th December 2013[/editline] i know a lot of movies do that nowadays, but not to that extent carrie's trailer is really just an abridged version of the movie
Have you seen the trailer for the original? It's even worse. Shows the prom massacre, [sp] Carrie's mom dying and John Travolta dying JUST AFTER THEY INTRODUCE HIM. [/sp] The new trailer is nothing in comparison with the original for spoilers.
To be fair though, most old trailers were absolute shit.
Or the trailer for Terminator 2, which flat-out tells you that Schwarzenegger is the good guy and Robert Patrick is the villain, a plot point that was clearly meant to be a twist.
At least they didn't have spoilers in the posters [t]http://claphamgroup.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/darkness-21.jpg[/t]
wait didn't the main poster for quarantine spoil what happens to the main character at the end?
wait didn't the main poster for quarantine spoil what happens to the main character at the end?
Pretty much EVERY ad for that movie featured that shot.
It was literally the last shot of the film. Also just saw catching fire. I didn't enjoy the first one, I gave it 2/5. But . Really enjoyed this one. A solid 4/5. Massive improvement in literally all ways. I'll maybe write as more when I'm home but I thought it was pretty great.
Carnage - 8/10 been trying to find a way to watch this for a long time and finally did. its just great and exactly my cup of tea. great acting overall especially Jodie foster! and christoph waltz was just fukkin hilarious. i really tend to enjoy this type of movies A LOT, where it's just bunch of people talking and discussing in a room for almost the entire movie. 12 Angry Men, Sunset limited, the man from earth etc fkn entertaining
fucking marvel

Without context I don't know what's happening here. Loki is sitting in some ruins and some meteors are striking. I guess it means that Loki somehow did his tricky ways and destroyed Asgard or something but I think we all knew the fucking trickster god would try to doublecross Thor. [editline]4th December 2013[/editline] I saw Terminator 2 and it was a really good movie. I was drunk when I watched it but I liked the character development. We see Sarah becoming this military badass whilst unwittingly becoming more like a heartless killer while we got to see the T-800 slowly understand what it meant to be a human. I also got to see the different sides of humanity through the terminators themselves; T-1000 seemed to embody the negative parts of humanity with his cowardly deception, a bloodlust that the terminator seemed to relish, and seemingly [sp]being afraid to die, making a huge commotion when being smelted, almost as if it was out of fear and desparation[/sp], where the T-800 seemed to learn how to be brave, noble, and wise. The compelling characters and universe saved it from being a fun, yet ultimately forgettable action movie.
watching 28 Up South Africa.. unbelievably depressing compared with the UK version. :-(
Prisoners 8.5/10 damn this was great. Amazing acting, especially by hugh jackman, and a very interesting and compelling story. It's really long but never too slow, worth every minute.
my only complain w prisoners was terrence howard
true, he doesn't stand out very much, but I don't see any reason to complain.
Is it as good as most of FP makes it out to be?
Yep. I guess I should have mentioned that it'd be best to watch Firefly before Serenity, although it's not a necessity. It allows for some extra development and attachment to the characters. [editline]5th December 2013[/editline]
fucking marvel
To be honest though, that shot is no where in the film as far as I remember. Especially considering [sp]that during that scene, he wasn't even in the suit[/sp].
Easy A Okay I'm not gonna lie this movie was pretty good. Obviously its not the best movie or the funniest movie but it was well worth a watch.
I liked Prisoners a lot too and I know Jake Gyllenhaal found him at the end!
I liked Prisoners a lot too and I know Jake Gyllenhaal found him at the end!
snape kills dumbledore and dies
Eastern Promises - 6/10 I was hoping for much better but the acting was absolutely stale, bad russian accents and it just felt cheesy. Only good thing was Viggo's dick n' ballz
Gravity: 5/10 - really don't understand the hype, saw this in 3D at the IMAX, first time at the IMAX and first time in about 3 years I've seen a 3D film. Visually amazing, films is stunning and effects are groundbreaking. But that's about it, basically zero story and abysmal dialogue. Film consists of Sandra Bullock trying to get from point a-b and encountering a problem whilst doing so. Ended up being tiring to watch her repeatedly failed attempts whilst listening to her break the annoying sound of her appearing to have an asthma attack every now and then by giving a running commentery on what she was trying to do. In my opinion one of the most overrated movies of all time, to the point where I'm baffled by the constant good reviews. IMDB rating of 8.3 last time I checked, whilst goodfellas also scored something like an 8.7 which is outrageous, no where near in the same league as goodfellas. One positive to draw from this is before Gravity, I hated 3D and thought it was a waste of time and ruined films, but if it wasn't for the 3D in this, I'd have completely lost interest in the film half way through.
I liked Prisoners a lot too and I know Jake Gyllenhaal found him at the end!
thx
Might as well rate the last two as well Point Break: 7/10 Pretty old film, 1991 I think, really enjoyed it. Rarely a dull moment in the film, Keanu Reeves puts in a great performance, found it weird to watch him play the character as I'm so used to seeing emo Keanu, often plays dull emotionally challenged characters that are withdrawn from positive emotions, (Constantine, the devils advocate, day the earth stood still, matrix etc.) few cheesy moments in the beginning but didn't ruin the feel of the film. The departed: 8/10 - heard amazing things about the film, was eager to see and and it had a lot to live up to and didn't disappoint. One of the best cast films I've ever seen, dicaprio and Scorsese make a perfect combination for a good film anyway and to have the likes of jack Nicholson and Martin sheen are bonuses. Highly recommend watching this, excellent story.
thx
It's not a spoiler. You just gotta see the movie for yourself
It's not a spoiler. You just gotta see the movie for yourself
Well, actually it is.
