A Single Man - 4.5, maybe even 4.75 out of 5. I liked it. Colin Firth seems perfect in that role. The story isn't that important - but the execution. That 60s feeling, amazing music, great visuals (I really enjoyed that live and changing color palette, depending on main character's mood). I must say, Tom Ford handled this film really well. It may be among the best director's debuts I've seen, especially coming from a person without any real film background.
do u mean 4.5/5 4.5/10 would be more accurate as that film was awful [editline]10th December 2013[/editline] no im sorry i thought tht was A Serious Man SCRATCH THATTT
Elf - 4/5 [t]http://i.imgur.com/cEF5E5T.jpg[/t] A very fun way to kick off the Christmas-movie season.
Lawrence of Arabia - 10/10 damn son
for some reason I loved watching that movie. It was really heart warming
I really liked love actually and its a great movie to watch around this time of year
Picked up the Bond 50 collection about a week ago, but haven't given any of the films a proper watch until now. Dr. No 4/5 Never saw this one properly before and was quite surprised. It's not perfect, but an interesting way to introduce the character. From Russia with Love 4/5 Still a good one. Shame Robert Shaw's role was rather small (it's not a small role per se, but it could've been bigger, in my opinion). [editline]11th December 2013[/editline] Hopefully I can watch some more soon.
Shame Robert Shaw's role was rather small (it's not a small role per se, but it could've been bigger, in my opinion).
I agree, he mostly appeared in small scenes when he was following Bond. Truly though he appears most on the train. Basically 4-8 minutes of screen. He needed more. To be honest, From Russia With Love is one of my least favorite Bond movies. I thought it was really boring
Trainspotting 4/5 Loved it so much, I've watched it about 3 times now and I can say i think it was a really enjoyable film, i loved the actors and even though the whole thing is grungy and some parts do seem a little low budget i think that is what makes this film just so great because they pulled it off right
Keyhole 8.5/10 Surreal. Lots of memorable images and a bizarre ghost story.
Three Kings - 8/10 [t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/cd/Three_Kings_%28film%29_poster_art.jpg[/t] Good stuff.
Cross of Iron 10/10 I might have reviewed this movie before but I haven't seen this movie in awhile so yeah. However I'm glad I saw it again. It's a pretty underrated war movie IMO and personally, I think it's great. The acting, the direction, the characters and the tone all feel top-notch. The scene when Rolf Steiner starts tripping out at that party in the hospital; the imagery stuck with me for awhile. It feels authentic, visceral and the movie delicately goes along with the 'soldiers are just men in different uniforms' idea without sacrificing any of the characters' individuality in which some lesser movies do. I don't want to spout off stuff in which I think are the 'meanings' behind this film because it's always best for you to discover. Although you can't escape the fact that the movie is an anti-war film but I love how it doesn't stoop to the lowest of levels and turn into unimaginative preachy crap. There's a grim outlook on the movie though and the sheer violence and insanity of war, conflict, greed and inhumanity is portrayed almost like one bad joke. The only stuff that's stopping it from being funny is that it's real. I could see why Orson Welles and Quentin Tarantino loved this movie so much. The ending and the intro themselves are amazing on their own too. Fantastic movie. [editline]11th December 2013[/editline] I must say that I do have a soft spot for the movie though since it's probably one of the first war movies I've ever watched if not the first. So I can't say someone will like this movie as much as I do but it's still great. I've heard the movie's props (such as the guns, tanks and etc...) and costumes were really authentic. I personally wouldn't know much about that but everything did seem and feel real so that's also good.
Gravity 10/10 I saw Gravity the other night and i was blown away b it. I expected it to be a good movie but i was surprised at how invested i became and how fast you start to care about the characters survival some of which comes from the great casting of George Clooney and Sandra Bullock. Speaking of Sandra Bullock she must be the favourite for most of the 2014 best actress awards. I thought she played this role superbly and didnt miss a beat. The CG works was really great on this movie not once when i was looking at it did i think wow thats really god CG i was just so taken back by what was happening on screen and how real it looked my brain didnt get a chance to think of it as CG. The reason i gave the movie 10/10 was for great acting, special effects and 2 days later its still on my mind to the point of ill be going to see it again tomorrow.

Rambo I 9/10 only -1 is for the ending, he really should've died.
John Rambo dying would have worked better if the movie actually portrayed how he was like in the book and the original draft. Stallone deliberately went out of his way to play up the sympathetic angle of the character. Him getting shot by Trautman would've personally felt off due to how the film portrays Rambo.
I think it wouldn't, it would play into the drama that is created by Rambo sort of being a victim too.
I think it wouldn't, it would play into the drama that is created by Rambo sort of being a victim too.
Oh yeah I'm not denying that Rambo isn't shown as victim of the Vietnam War but I don't know. In the film, he's very much a victim who just happens to have the worst day ever. He's the underdog, the guy who was mistreated by the police, mistreated by the public and mistreated by the government but he still has a sense of morality. He isn't bat-shit insane, just confused, lonely and angry. For me, the drama was more about the possibility of him getting in touch with the world again after it took everything from him when he served his country. If he gets killed at the end by the Colonel, what does that mean? The impact behind the final scene was seeing Trautman force Rambo to snap out of his spiral caused by his intense hate, angst and sadness over how the war robbed him of his dignity, his friends and respect. That and finally seeing Rambo confront his inner demons and memories. This 'kill or be kill'/'fight the power'/"he drew first-blood" warzone mentality that had been torturing Rambo ever since the war needed to stop. By shooting him dead imo goes against that notion of not only the redemption of Rambo but of the world/system that made him into a heartless badass killing machine (unsuccessfully since we find out that he does feel and in some ways, being very emotionally fragile inside) and then send to fight in a horrifying war. The character in the book had a death wish but I don't believe Stallone's version did. I think Stallone stopped the character from killing a bunch of cops to make the audience focus on the chance of Rambo coming back and overcoming his demons. [editline]11th December 2013[/editline] Then again, opinons so I'll just leave it at that and say it's only what I personally thought. No right or wrong.
Rambo I 9/10 only -1 is for the ending, he really should've died.
At least it would have spared the world those woeful sequels. (User was permabanned for this post ("alt of jewdozer" - Rusty100))
Pacific Rim 8/10 Very well made, even though it was a bit slow from time to time. Loved the monsters.
Children of the Lost City- 8/10. A bit cheesy at times, but it was super interesting. I have a soft-spot for the surreal dream sequences as well. Charming, in a strange way.
At least it would have spared the world those woeful sequels.
Rambo: First Blood part II wasn't bad. Sure, it went against the whole idea of the first movie, but it was a decent action film. 2 Guns - 7/10 Saw this one a while ago so I'm not sure if I rated it ITT already or not. Pretty enjoyable buddy-cop movie starring Denzel Washington and Mark 'Marky Mark' Wahlberg

Lord of War Been a while since I watched a movie, had this on my list for a while. Really good movie, definitely one of his top flicks imo, along with FaceOff, Leaving Las Vegas and National Treasure
The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug fucking 10/10, masterpiece, loved it, cant wait for the last movie
Persona- 5/5. Breathtaking. Beautiful. Full of love and soul and at times utterly terrifying and disturbing. A total masterpiece of cinema. My God. What a completely and utterly fascinating film. Maybe the most interesting film I have ever seen. My first venture I to Ingmar Bergman, a director often considered one of the greatest of all time, was about as brilliant as it could have been. Even better than I had hoped. This is both incredibly simple and one of the most complex films Ive ever seen. The entire film is only 79 minutes and really only features two characters (there are 3 others that are in it for very short times) and one of them doesn't speak. The film documents the young nurse Alma attempting to figure out and maybe cure whatever it is that caused famed actress Elizabet to suddenly, for no apparent reason, just stop talking. However the film also examines the human psyche in as deep a wag as I've ever seen, sexuality in subtle and beautiful ways, and it explores and critiques the limitations of cinema and even the limitations and boundaries of the mind. And my god what a film and what a piece of art. watched this last night but couldn't write about it. I didn't know what to say or what to think. I still don't really. It I can articulate my experience to an extent. So goddamn interesting and thought provoking. It's all I've been thinking about. I don't know if any film has stuck in my mind like this. Absolutely recommend this to everyone. A must see.
