Can't believe it but the last movie I have seen superficially was the Polar Express, a animated kid's movie. They decided to put this on in the class. 4/10 because it doesn't interest me at all.
Since it seems we have some fans here, exactly what was so great about The Hobbit?
I loved the book very much, so I understand why you're upset that they changed too much. In my opinion though, the book doesn't matter. No matter how much they change in the movie as long as the movie is still entertaining, it did it's job. After all, I already read the book. I don't need to see it. As for what I liked, i really liked the action sequences. Yeah they dragged on for a bit and the final one ended up being pointless, but I thought they were fun and creative. The sets were really cool as expected from this team and Martin Freeman is the best Bilbo we could ever have. Also that Cumberbatch dragon. Plus, how often do we get an honest to god adventure film?
The Incredible Hulk 6/10 The CGI was impressive, and the monsters were beautifully rendered. However, the movie was VERY schematic with its charachters- the good guys were good guys and the bad guys were bad guys, in faithful hollywood taste. I didn't expect any different. In general, it was a not-so-interesting take on the frankestein's monster + the beaut & the beast tropes, and I don't think it coul have lead to anything better than what came out of it- CGI monster wrestling. I have never read a HULK comic so I can't say whether it was faithful or not to the source material. Honorable mention: Tim Roth. He's stuck with his usual borderline-psycho role tho. [editline]15th December 2013[/editline] OH WAIT there was one thing that cracked me up, when HULK did that clapping move that sends a soundwave forward, just like in the old and incredibly shitty videogame. It was hell of a throwback.
Just finished watching submarino from danish director thomas Vinterberg. If you want a film to drag you right down into the gutter then this will do the trick. 2 brothers are a pair of fuck ups and i guess they are fuck ups because their parents were fuck ups and so will their children when they grow up. Shit makes me feel lucky. Slit wrists/10 but good. (User was permabanned for this post ("alt of jewdozer" - Rusty100))
Check out festen and the hunt by the same director. Both depressing but outstanding.
The only thing that director tries to do is destroy your livelihood. :(
We'll he's Danish. That seems to be their thing :v:
I read somewhere that Finland has the highest suicide rate. Denmark isn't Finland which I'm well aware of but I wonder if they have a more negative view on life up there? Most of the films I've watched from that part of the world seem to be great but depressing. No offence meant to our vikings.
The Two Towers (Extended edition) - 7/10 Al those extended Ent scenes just dragged on forever and ever. The theatrical cut was better.
I was going to watch the Two Towers again some time since it's my personal favorite out of the bunch, but is it worth watching the extended version? are there any other good extended parts?
Oh dear, Peter O'Toole just died. Sad days.

And the action sequences felt cheapened because of the excessive CGI, acting was good admittedly. But making Beorn's entire part in the movie like 5 minutes long? why is Legolas in there? Where does this Azog guy come from? Tauriel? Why do they feel the need for a ~strong female character~ that has no reason for existing other than pandering to modern gender equality movements?
We'll he's Danish. That seems to be their thing :v:
Something is rotten in that state.
Oh dear, Peter O'Toole just died. Sad days.
Seems like as good a time as any to finally watch Lawrence of Arabia.
I also forgot that one of the guys in Lawrence of Arabia plays Obi-Wan Kenobi.
The shire stuff in fellowship is some of my favourite stuff ever in a film. That alone makes fellowship my favourite of the trilogy.
The shire stuff in fellowship is some of my favourite stuff ever in a film. That alone makes fellowship my favourite of the trilogy.
I get so many childhood feelings whenever I see that scene with Gandalf talking to Frodo in the mines. The music in that makes people who usually whisper/text during movies dead silent
As much as I love the Lord of the Rings movies, I can't really find that many amazing things to say about Two Towers. It's a good movie, but that's about it. The ending battle scene is great and the performances are as good as the first movie, but it's soooooo overshadowed by how amazing the first and third movies were. And even as a fan, I find the Ent scenes really boring on rewatches, and this is coming from someone who has seen Fellowship of the Ring around 100 times.
It's definitely the weakest of the three but I still really enjoyed it. I'm too much of a fanboy, I guess. All this LOTR and Hobbit talk makes me want to rewatch the trilogy. I wish my stuff gets here soon so I can watch my DVD collection
You guys really didn't like Two Towers? Because my friends and I all thought it was the best in the whole trilogy...
Polar Express was a neat little movie. Nothing special, though. And a lot of scenes were pretty cringe-worthy, but that goes for most Christmas movies, so I enjoyed it for what it was.
For some reason that's on my family's annual rotation of Christmas movies. Some parts are good, but the animation has dated not very well (I never got any Uncanny Valley out of it, but I think I would have preferred more stylization) and some parts are just kind of odd. [editline]15th December 2013[/editline]
All this LOTR and Hobbit talk makes me want to rewatch the trilogy. I wish my stuff gets here soon so I can watch my DVD collection
It's been too long for me. Some friends and I were planning to take a day or two and marathon LotR, watch An Unexpected Journey, then go see The Desolation of Smaug.
You guys really didn't like Two Towers? Because my friends and I all thought it was the best in the whole trilogy...
Honestly I think most people tend to think of it as sort of the middle child of LOTR, but it's still the most enjoyable for me. The Helm's Deep battle was among the best theater experiences I've had. all the battle scenes in it were really well done
I'm trying to get through the three colours films this week. Just finished Three colours red with Julliette binoche and man is that some deep stuff. I am going to need time to digest that but the use of symbolic images and the way it explores a characters way of dealing with tragedy is so heavy. I already seen blue before but a rewatch and a look at white is in order. French/10 great movie.
First time watching Léon (The Professional) I didn't know what to expect but holy shit I was blown away, The way the story build up to this magnificent ending gives you this tense feeling only a few movies know to deliver. 10/10 in my eyes.
I'm glad they didn't add the statutory rape scene in the movie
I'll never watch Leon again, but damn if it isn't a good ass movie.
(User was permabanned for this post ("alt of jewdozer" - Rusty100))
Sorry for quoting but didn't you say a while back Rusty that if she came back under a different name you wouldn't ban the new account? Or did the 45 alt accounts after that change that statement? Anyway, Troll Hunter 8/10 Love this movie. Watched it 3 times now. Only problem with it is that I wasn't too pleased with the ending, but I'm not even close to hating it.
I also forgot that one of the guys in Lawrence of Arabia plays Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Alec Guiness hated Star Wars for every dime, he was pretty much a snooty person when it came to Star Wars. Also he claims it was his idea to have Obi-Wan die in the first movie, because he wanted his role to be shorter. So one of your favorite tragic scenes was made by Guiness who thought Lucas was a talentless hack. Also not to mention he didn't even know most of the cast members names.
Can’t say I’m enjoying the film. … new rubbish dialogue reaches me every other day on wadges of pink paper—and none of it makes my character clear or even bearable. I just think, thankfully, of the lovely bread, which will help me keep going until next April even if Yahoo collapses in a week. … I must off to studio and work with a dwarf (very sweet—and he has to wash in a bidet) and your fellow countrymen Mark Hamill and Tennyson (that can’t be right) Ford. Ellison (?—No!)—well, a rangy, languid young man who is probably intelligent and amusing. But Oh, God, God, they make me feel ninety—and treat me as if I was 106.—Oh, Harrison Ford—ever heard of him?
Also if you ever met him as a kid and you wanted a autograph, it would of been a tragic moment in your life.
A refurbished Star Wars is on somewhere or everywhere. I have no intention of revisiting any galaxy. I shrivel inside each time it is mentioned. Twenty years ago, when the film was first shown, it had a freshness, also a sense of moral good and fun. Then I began to be uneasy at the influence it might be having. The bad penny first dropped in San Francisco when a sweet-faced boy of twelve told me proudly that he had seen Star Wars over a hundred times. His elegant mother nodded with approval. Looking into the boy’s eyes I thought I detected little star-shells of madness beginning to form and I guessed that one day they would explode. “I would love you to do something for me,” I said. “Anything! Anything!” the boy said rapturously. “You won’t like what I’m going to ask you to do,” I said. “Anything, sir, anything!” “Well,” I said, “do you think you could promise never to see Star Wars again?” He burst into tears. His mother drew himself up to an immense height. “What a dreadful thing to say to a child!” she barked, and dragged the poor kid away. Maybe she was right but I just hope the lad, now in his thirties, is not living in a fantasy world of secondhand, childish banalities.
Funny thing was my favorite character was Ben Kenobi before I knew Ben Kenobi hated himself.
Sorry for quoting but didn't you say a while back Rusty that if she came back under a different name you wouldn't ban the new account?
nope
United 93 it's more of a documentary than an actual movie, but it was still a thrill ride especially in the second half. Interesting if you want a little insight into how the control towers, military and plane passengers tried to deal with the 9/11 highjackings. Tombstone It has very high ratings across the board by critics and audiences, but I dunno, I didn't really enjoy it. I felt like the story was pretty weak and not very engaging. I didn't like how they used montages to skim through some battles, and the protagonist's love interest seemed just thrown in there for the sake of it. It's pretty decent, but I was rather unamused during the whole thing. The cast was great though, and man those moustaches are divine.
The Great Gatsby (2013) - 6.5/10 [t]http://www.chud.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/great_gatsby_ver7_xlg.jpg[/t] Very uneven. At times I felt it was far too stylized, and other times barely stylized at all. Sometimes the cinematography was so bizarre it almost gave me a headache, and other times the camera shots were beautiful. The performances were pretty good, but I never really connected that well with anyone (I guess that's because they're all terrible people). Overall, I'd say it's worth a watch if you were already interested in seeing it but it's nothing special.
Just watched The Black Dahlia because I felt like making nachos at 1:30 am and needed something to watch. It was unopened and in the back of the dvd cupboard. I now know why it was unopened and hidden in the back. 3/10
