went and saw Terminator 2 at a theatre. man what an amazing experience. there are no words for how much I love this movie, and it shines like i've never seen it before in a cinema.
Goddamn, I need to see the first two Terminator films in a cinema at least once before I die.
Sorry for quoting but didn't you say a while back Rusty that if she came back under a different name you wouldn't ban the new account? Or did the 45 alt accounts after that change that statement?
Anyway, Troll Hunter 8/10
Love this movie. Watched it 3 times now. Only problem with it is that I wasn't too pleased with the ending, but I'm not even close to hating it.
Nah, somebody else said she should try that to try and fly under Rusty's radar a little.
And we see how that turned out.
Goddamn, I need to see the first two Terminator films in a cinema at least once before I die.
Same, but in here with Casablanca in normal cinema and Lawrence of Arabia in Full IMAX.
I missed Lawrence of Arabia earlier this year. Wish I saw it now- I picked it up today, along with a double feature of Before Sunrise/Before Sunset. Look forward to watching them.
Also I got something I'm very excited for (well I got it on Friday)- a pre-screening ticket for Inside Llewyn Davis! It's on the 100th anniversary of my local cinema, 8th January 2014 (been there since 1914- crazy!). Its got live musical accompaniment and a panel (although I don't know who will be there) should be cool as hell

This is The End - 6/10
Lots of funny scenes, a bit too predictable for my liking.
not related to anything im really fuckin sick of the circlejerk saying that Die Hard is the greatest christmas movie of all time
[editline]17th December 2013[/editline]
do people even mean that when they say it like seriously

From my experience, yes. Then again, most people who do say it hasn't really seen that many great christmas movies.

It's a good action movie with cool characters that isn't bloated with bad effects and stunts, it's also somewhat christmas themed. I can see why people say such things.
like Die Hard is a great movie but its literally just an action film that is during christmas time its not really a christmas film. like it kiiinda is in that it deals with family I guess since hes trying to get home but still. its an action film 100%.
Its like have you not seen Its a Wonderful Life/Miracle on 34th St/Scrooged?? And if you don't think Meet Me In St. Louis is one of the great classics of American cinema then well what is even up.

It's probably the most tangentially-Christmas movie out there - it takes place during a Christmas party, Ode to Joy plays when they open the vault, Let It Snow plays over the end credits, he writes "Ho ho ho" on the dead guy, it's about getting together with family, and so forth.
But because it's Die Hard, it's not explicitly a Christmas movie. There's no mentions of Christmas spirit or anything like that, and Christmas only factors into the plot because the terrorists attack a Christmas party. Really, it's only a little more Christmasy than, say, Iron Man 3. But because it's not a traditional Christmas movie, people can act cool and witty by saying that a kickass action movie is the best Christmas film.
Speaking of which, why the heck is The Sound of Music a Christmas movie?
Speaking of which, why the heck is The Sound of Music a Christmas movie?
Wait what the hell I never heard of this.
i've literally never watched a christmas movie on christmas
when i was a kid i waited for santa (YEAH SO WHAT) and when i got a little older i hung around and talked to my family and whoever was there
i just never knew people watched christmas movies during christmas itself, i thought they were more of the kind of thing you watched during december to get your christmas spirit on, unless that's exactly what you guys are talking about
I never watched any christmas movie for real, they always seemed incredibly cheesy and painful to watch.
Burn After Reading
The movie was funny I guess. I don't know. I'm just confused right now
I really like Home Alone 2, I thought that the traps were really entertaining. Although I was just a kid back then, might give them a shot again.
The Great Gatsby (2013) - 6.5/10

Very uneven. At times I felt it was far too stylized, and other times barely stylized at all. Sometimes the cinematography was so bizarre it almost gave me a headache, and other times the camera shots were beautiful. The performances were pretty good, but I never really connected that well with anyone (I guess that's because they're all terrible people).
Overall, I'd say it's worth a watch if you were already interested in seeing it but it's nothing special.
too stylized, i shut it off after about 5 minutes. baz luhrmann sure knows how to turn you away from watching his movies. amazing how the same guy once directed strictly ballroom.
i hope the robert redford version is better.
The Robert Redford version is less painful to watch but still not so great. Like its ok. Stick to the novel (and if you've not read it then read it)
I absolutely hated the first 30 minutes of the Great Gatsby (2013), it was disorienting, over stylised and full of jump cuts and had horribly fucked pacing. It picked up when Dicaprio came in but still was not amazing although it at least became decent at that point. Still full of similar problems though. Baz Luhrmann is a terrible director.
Home Alone- 7/10
Home Alone 2: Lost in New York- 6.5/10
Not as good as I remember them being, but I still watch them every couple of years in December.
Before Goodfellas, I always saw Joe Pesci as the bad guy from Home Alone and now whenever I watch the first Home Alone films, I can only see him as Tommy DeVito in a kids movie :v:

they successfully destroyed one of my favorite books
like the whole movie was terrible, one of the few bad leo roles

The Great Gatsby novel is still the best by far. Speaking of Robert Redford has anyone seen "The Natural"? I thought it was pretty good considering all I knew about it was that it was referenced in The Simpsons episode "Homer at the Bat".
his back catalogue shows he has a 100% chance of ruining any text he adapts
[editline]17th December 2013[/editline]
and a high chance of making an overall shitty movie from an original screenplay
[editline]17th December 2013[/editline]
that still just rips off classic works even if not directly FUCK U BAZZZ
[editline]17th December 2013[/editline]
I can also not forgive him for making Nicole Kidman do terrible movies because she is one of the best contemporary American actresses
Nicole Kidman is Australian though.
Wait what the hell I never heard of this.
"My Favorite Things" plays on Christmas radio stations, also the movie's usually on TV this time of year.
oh i suppose that explains why she was in Australia then (FUUUCK that film btw) but anyway shes brilliant

At some points I assumed Luhrmann was using the crazed cinematography and loud music to (a) connect the crazy parties of back then with the crazy parties today and (b) show how disoriented Tobey was but then it just kept being that ridiculous for the whole first half

DiCaprio was actually pretty good. I did like some of the shots but overall it was bothersome to watch.
i know what Luhrmann was trying to do and I agree but that doesnt mean I give it credit cos it was horrendous either way

So strange, I don't I ever caught Sound of Music on tv during Christmas before but then again, I don't watch TV all that much. Well as long as people are still watching that classic, I think I'm okay with it.
Although I have no friggin' clue why it's considered a Christmas movie.

Fun fact: "My Favorite Things" has nothing to do with Christmas.
I've recently discovered the frustrations about not being able to get a movie in your country.
Wake me up when I can watch "Why Don't You Play In Hell" and "Big Bad Wolves" in America.
Edit: Looks like Big Bad Wolves is coming Jan 17th, but that's only half of the problem!
