Jesus christ I want that
Watched Two Towers a few nights ago, god I forgot how good the Helm's Deep battle was. glad I finally saw the extended cut too. after seeing it again my only real complaint is that the ent scenes sort of drag on
also like how the final scene of mary and pippin in the extended cut is them finding a barrel full of weed
Bernie
9/10
What the fuck wikipedia, this is not a black comedy, this was depressing as shit.

I think you meant to say how bad The Battle of Hornburg was and how bad the ent scenes were. Also just so you know that "pipe weed" in middle earth is our tobacco, not marijuana in case you didn't know.
Two Towers is the retarded, inbred child of PJ's trilogy imo
I remember reading a hilarious fanfic where the Fellowship smoke some of "the finest pipe-weed in the southfarthing" and then get stoned out of their minds.
I can't find it for the life of me, though.
I watched Don Jon. I had really low expectations, I actually watched it because it was JGL's directorial debut.
It was a solid comedy, I laughed more than while watching The World's End. 7 out of 10, because I feel like Scarlett Johansson's character was really undeveloped. Film tried to be serious and thought provoking few times but it didn't worked for me.
I thought her character was pretty well developed and I loved the film tbh. Her character went a way I didn't really expect and I loved the use of character arcs. It delved quite subtly but strongly into reality vs expectations, sex, sexism, gender roles, romance, love, media's influence on people. There was a lot to it imo. Big fan of the film and imo said a lot.

I like Jack Black in the movie because he wasn't just being Jack Black like in most other Jack Black movies.

wow ok jesus
hornburg? is that what it's called in the book?
Helms Deep is the valley its in. The actual fortress is called Hornburg.
Its like saying The Siege of The Golden Horn as opposed the Siege of Constantinople
Also I know the title says no tv shows but the thread is dead so fuck it, Kevin Spacey in House of Cards is fantastic
I feel like he's getting his career back on track from years of shitty B movies
I still say that Kevin Spacey's best performance was in American Beauty. He was so perfect in that movie, even more than Se7en in my opinion.
Obviously:
American Beauty, Se7en, Moon, LA Confidential, The Usual Suspects, and now House of Cards are what I would say his best are
Jingle All The Way: 7/10
My brother and our friends get together every Christmas season to watch unusual Christmas movies. This year the group chose this strange Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sinbad movie (which featured Jake Lloyd, aka the Anakin Skywalker everyone hated before Hayden Christenson popped into existence). It was a bad film, but the fun kind of bad. Laughs were had, some of those laughs were intended by the movie, some of them not quite. All in all, although I would have preferred that we had watched the Rifftrax'd version of the Star Wars Holiday Special, this was a more than acceptable choice. It was fun, and that's all that really matters.

they say it in the movie as well.
Return of the King - 10/10
easily one of the most memorable parts of my childhood
Don Jon
a fairly original entry in the romantic/comedy/drama genre, which touches on issues I'm sure many viewers can relate to. JGL was very good in this movie, so was Scarlett Johansson although her character was incredibly dumb (maybe that was the whole point, but it just made me angry how idiotic she was). It's too short though, doesn't really go very deep into the subjects it brings up, I felt like if they added ~30 mins or so more it would have been perfect.

That's precisely my point. We were supposed to know that [sp]all her moronic actions were an effect of watching romcom movies, along with "not-watching-porn", "real-man-don't-clean", "real-man-satisfy-all-woman's-needs". I hoped for more equal approach, double standards and long discussion about both things being good and bad in the same time. Instead, Jon was just a pretty cool guy who was only watching too much porn, and because of that couldn't find enjoyment in sex (and that's about it), but Barbara was simply a dumb bitch, and there's not much of defending I can put there.[/sp]
The last days on Mars (2013) - 4/10
another movie about zombies...
My little brother keeps going on and on about how amazing The Usual Suspects is. I think he mentioned that it's his favorite movie.
I should probably watch it sometime. Same with L.A Confidential. It just sucks that I know the twist at the end.
Shitttt you haven't seen it yet? Fucking watch it right now
Motherfucking Keyser Soze
I've heard about the incident on Fruitvale Station before, but only after seeing that film I decided to look it up further. And I guess it was main function of this film - to make people talk more about that situation. But I didn't particularly enjoyed it.
Don't get me wrong, but I felt like it was missing something. On one side it was story of Oscar Grant's last day. But his story wasn't really that interesting nor unusual. So maybe it was about a message, that bad things can happen regardless of what you do - but that's a really obvious fact and doesn't need stating. It sure as hell wasn't about police brutality, or about controversy it sparked, protests - it was shoehorned into 10-15 minutes (in my opinion it should be main plotline of the film).
But I'll admit, [sp]last scene under the shower[/sp] was really powerful and sad.
And Michael B. Jordan was actually really good, I predict he's going to be a big shot in a few next years.

Do you mean the twist in The Usual Suspects or LA Confidential?
[sp]please not LA Confidential please not LA Confidential[/sp]
i can't remember either twist, i need a refresh... i may even start forgetting shyamalan's twists too :(
-snip-
Just go see the movies guys.
dude don't just post the twists... people will just click it and cause havoc :(
Finally saw Blue is the Warmest Colour
but it's called La Vie d'Adèle – Chapitres 1 & 2
See when you change the title completely for the Western release, you're just asking us to see a totally different film... Which is weird.. But I just took the French title for what it was and it made more sense in the end. It's very much about the character Adele's journey with her conflicts and sexuality piercing her and challenging her through and through. I expected a really sweet love story, but it is such a downer it's unbelievable...
Fantastic lead performances, with Frenchies I am much more likely to relate with them when they don't talk so damn fast and just talk normally for once. :)
For a 3 hour film, it's just a joy to get through. It is so clearly split in two parts, so the renaming again... makes no sense. It is kind of two films in one, really. The first is more the "life in school and taking the first steps" and then the second heads straight into "raw, yet tragic real-life scenarios". The first part is a lot more atune with the film "Before Sunrise" imo, it's very joyful and soulsearching, and then the second half is more the Sunset which is a lot more mature and in essence more in tune with real life. Which is a sad thought, but whatever. (yes it's a lot more depressing than both those examples btw)
As for the scenes of a red nature, they were well choreographed and nicely expressed. For those who say they're "unrealistic" are just being foolish, sometimes one must journey through various portions of a being to get a full experience. :)
It did come close to being the very best of 2013, but I perhaps need a rewatch to set things straight in HD. One thing for sure is that the lead who plays Adele is just superb, she nicely carries this film through the duration and I saw one heck of an authentic character in her.
I dunno who I'd recommend this to, it's a soothing film but it breaks your heart a bit.
Just finished watching After the wedding and what a fantastic movie. The brilliant mads mikkelsen stars as a Dane who runs an orphanage in India but has toi return home to get funds. The rest of the story is the film with an unexpected turn.
The Danes makes some great films and this was a mother fucker especially the complete unbridled performance of rolf Lassgard, it's off the scale. this film is a great story and well acted.
Only god forgives however was 90 mins of style over content. it's been said before that its nice to look at with the way its lit and coloured but all that posturing and vague symbolism made this film impenetrable. i was clock watching towards the end and was rather disappointed. Gosling once again is Gosling, that quiet, brooding type and its getting a bit samey.

yeah that God Forgives film wasn't very challenging, it did have a lot of intriguing atmosphere, but nothing "high-tier" for me.
I'm really curious about Only God Forgives. Nobody really seems to be on the fence about it, it's either REALLY good or REALLY bad.
If you want a story stay away but if you want a slow film noir with some tasty moody lighting and ambigous imagery then give it a try. don't expect another drive.
Only God Forgives is pretty good, I think I like it a tad more than Drive.
[editline]20th December 2013[/editline]
even though they are really nothing alike.
headhunters is a wonderful little thriller from Denmark made 2011 and it stars Aksel Hennie who lead the cast in Max Mannus which was wonderful. He plays an art thief who's charming, rich, successful but is a total cunt. Things take a turn when he finds his next target and the turns are funny, shocking and nicely put together. I'm amazed Hollywood has not made a remake of this as it's one of those early Clooney type of films but better. The only thing that let this down for me was the score, it reminded me of the Oceans films and thats not a good thing. Light hearted, stylish and entertaining.
The Hobbit is generic fantasy garbage. It's one of those movies where you're looking at the time just waiting for it to end.
