It was not 9.9/10 lmao Decent enough movie but sure hell ain't nearly the best movie I've ever seen in my life or perfect, depending on what your rating scale is
I wasn't saying it was the best movie I've ever seen. I was saying I really enjoyed it for what it was, and I gave my reasoning behind it. It's one of the best movies I've seen this year, to be honest. That being said, my rating for it is purely based on the movies I've seen. My rating is entirely subjective to my movie-viewing experiences.
i just watched dredd and agree it was quite good it's a damn shame its box office gross was less than its budget
this was my reaction the whole time
but he is the law
The Road to Guantanamo (2006) 4/5 It was one sided but for a good reason, the US kept these men in captivity and tortured them to the point of lying, i thought it was powerful and strong in the way it depicted these events, only complaint would be the night time footage looked like it was shot on a 2003 video camera phone in VGA quality but apart from that everything was great
Yesterday I rewatched The Matrix. I forgot how long the movie is. It's definitely the best out of the trilogy, the fights are much nicer to look at and the world/universe has this strangely strong ability to immerse yourself. It's still a classic despite some bad acting and romance plot that appears out of nowhere. After all these years I finally noticed Trinity loves Neo without much interaction. I think a spin-off focusing on regular hackers would be great. Which reminds me I should watch that Animatrix or whatever it's called.
Are you one of those people who got mad at [sp]the mandarin twist[/sp]?
You call that a twist..? You could see it coming literally from miles away.
its very bad
I really liked Elysium and I gave it 9/10. I don't understand why people don't like it, really. I've read the arguments, but I just don't agree with them. I was thoroughly entertained. [editline]28th December 2013[/editline]
are you seriously saying that elysium is better than IM3
And IM3 was a 7/10 for me so I think Elysium was better than IM3.
I would rather watch my house burn down over elysium.
I would rather watch my house burn down over elysium.
okay i can see not liking it that much but i can't see hating it by any stretch of the imagination. it was quite the step down from district 9, but that movie was fantastic so that's not saying that much. elysium was still a solid and enjoyable scifi action. it was lacking a lot, yeah, but nowhere near enough to warrant hating it.
okay I was exaggerating slightly [editline]28th December 2013[/editline] I still think it's bad though.

They are both your usual hundred-million budget films that are NOTHING special. Elysium was basically some producers' opinionated view of immigration in the future (and now) while also trying to create some excitingly cool film that didn't make a whole lot of sense after all. (for example, every time someone crashed into the Elysium, the first thing they conveniently encountered was the Med-bay. Every time, break the window, open the door, and there you go.)
I also really liked Oblivion which is another new blockbuster sci-fi movie that received mediocre criticism. Both plots, while supposedly being badly written and/or predictable clichés, intrigued and engaged me, and I liked the visuals. I also enjoyed Dredd (2012) Vis-à-vis to these movies are superhero movies. I'm no fan. I really liked the first Iron Man movie, and I love the new Batman movies, but other than that there's not a whole lot I like. For instance I disliked the Avengers. Close to everyone seemed to love that movie. Subjective perception. For a year I wrote movie reviews for the newspaper for my alternate views and opinions. I agree with the general public perhaps only half the time. EDIT: I'll just throw in the fact that Looper was one of my favorite movies.
yo both of those movies are very enjoyable despite being nothing special. calm your hate boners [editline]29th December 2013[/editline] oblivion was pretty shit though tbh [editline]29th December 2013[/editline] like tom cruise saw moon, but didn't understand why it was good and made a grandiose version of it [editline]29th December 2013[/editline] *star in. but i like to assume mega stars basically tell the director what to make.
Wolf of Wall Street - 7 or 8/10 (assuming 5 is average, not 7) Great movie, really. I felt it was thematically similar to Gatsby, possibly because it also starred Dicaprio, but while I hated Gatsby, I thought Wolf pulled off the whole "emptiness of wealth" theme way more naturally and with a lot more intelligence. Dialogue was snappy and entertaining, it was extremely funny at times, and despite being 3 full hours, it never dragged. Also interesting how somehow you end up rooting for the main character, even though he's a total fucking sleazeball who is sober for like 3% of the movie.
Schming Dynasty 2: The Yiddish Takeover 8/10 From the visionary mind of Steinberg Bergsteen comes Schming Dynasty 2: The Yiddish Takeover. This movie is a true successor to Schming Dynasty: Ching Chong Schmuck. In this chaotic kosher kalamity the Great Ming, ruler of Chila (portrayed by Adam Sandler) delivers quality moments as the movie has you in tears from the opening sequences of Ming's oriental Bat Mitzvah to the epic concluding sequences of the all-or-nothing ping pong battle for the throne between the great Ming and Moses (portrayed by Jackie Chan). Watch this movie.
Pacific rim what the hell, everyone has been talking about this movie being great and it even has nice ratings online. The plot was predictable, the actors were bad and the movie had many cheesy moments.. I just cannot see how so many have said this movie to be good, its lame as hell. While its true that the action scenes were cool, i just feel like it dragged on way too long, and frankly ive never been into ''giant robots fighting stuff''-action movies/games. 2 ugly stars out of 5, i would prefer not to ever see this movie again, and mostly cos of how horribly disappointed i was with it. jesus christ
It sucks too because Pacific Rim could have been good if Del Toro actually gave a shit about anything but the action sequences.
of course you were disappointed if you expected anything else other than a cheesy, predictable film. nobody's praising pacific rim because of its plot or the acting, it's just good for what it is: an over-the-top, fun action movie, that doesn't aim to be anything more than that.
I've not seen it but like that's not really a great excuse at all since it could have great action and above shitty characters and plot. Being an action film isnt a free pass to shit writing. [editline]28th December 2013[/editline] if you dont care about character why even make a film
because not every movie needs to be judged as if it was trying to be some amazing piece of art that's great in every possible aspect. del toro just wanted to make an enjoyable action movie, and he did
I really enjoyed it because I love Godzilla and Gamera and all those giant monster movies. He said in his review that he doesn't really care for those kinds of movies, which of course would cause him to not like this one.

I want movies to have interesting characters and even just a decent plot, pacific rim didnt have either of those. I can see what you mean tho, that this wasnt supposed to be much else but an action-filled film, but i just personally think it did a poor job in everything else, and thats why i dont see the joy in it at all.

Oh yeah because that would just be a VFX reel.
After Earth 10/10 Another work of art in the making here. Absolutely superb acting from both Will and Jaden here. Jaden is on a short track to a long career. In fact, I'd go to say that he even surpasses his father. The movie itself was gorgeous. I loved how they stuck to realistic sets as opposed to fabricating everything in CGI. I also loved the deep and profound themes of the movie and how they consistently came back to it. The scientologist undertones rang very true for me since I'm a level 3 operating thetan. Time to go to my next auditing session, got it on a holiday sale for only 34,999.95!!
because not every movie needs to be judged as if it was trying to be some amazing piece of art that's great in every possible aspect. del toro just wanted to make an enjoyable action movie, and he did
well yeah but that doesn't mean he can't write half decent characters that don't have shitty dialogue and come up with a plot that works. Those are basic things in screenwriting. I'm not saying he should have written something akin to Bergman. He should have just written a non-shit script that relied entirely on visuals. He CAN write, and he can do a good action film, look at Hellyboy 1 and 2, great action films with strong characters and an emotional level. Pan's Labyrinth is a beautifully written fairytale horror film. The dude can write. He just chose not to try very hard with this, by the sound of it. I fault him for that 100%. Cronos is a cool and original take on vampires. Have you seen The Devil's Backbone? That script is masterfully crafted. He manages to make this really complex story all work and make sense- yet he can't do that for a Hollywood style blockbuster? He could if he wanted.
Honestly, I think the sub-par writing and characterization of Pacific Rim was intentional. Del Toro wanted to create the biggest tribute to Kaiju Eiga and Mecha ever, and those movies almost never have good writing or characterization. They were just excuses to have the guys in rubber suits to wrestle each other. I think Del Toro wanted to channel that spirit and intentionally skimped out on that stuff to make it feel more true to the genre. Personally, I think he succeeded, because as a fan of that genre, Pacific Rim ended up being my favorite film of 2013.

i'm not saying he shouldn't have tried to make a movie that had both great action and good characters, i just think that "if you don't care about characters why even make a film" is just not the line of thought i'd go with; a movie's visuals and atmosphere are really just as important, imo
why does everyone hate iron man 3 so much? i honestly didn't think it was a bad superhero movie, and compared to iron man 2 it was definitely way way better it didnt blow my mind but at least there was a twist and the movie was well executed too the whole ptsd thing also contributed a bit to the plot and character development, though imo it got a bit annoying sometimes i'd give it a 8/10 in the super hero movie scale
I overlook it and well, it's not the direction of the movie. The director is fine. Its mostly the script that is bad, Drew Pearce doesn't know how to stick to the comic source material as Extremis in the comics isn't some jacked-up human torch chemical whatever. I won't rant bout that most hated plot twist anymore. Drew Pearce likes to mock fans about that change, which angers me. And they shouldn't, I say shouldn't hire a very very good actor to play that kind of character. A waste of threatical talent, Kingsley was unwittenly mocking his own acting persona. So go ahead, dumb me for not liking it or disagree. I just thought it was a awful sequel that doesn't follow it's source material too well.

I mean it's not like the comic and movie universes are different or anything like that. So pretty much the same people who got super pissed that they changed the end of Watchmen to be less retarded than the book.
