well it wasnt as terrible as Zero Dark Thirty at least
Saying it's not as bad as another movie doesn't really say why you think it's bad.
ive not seen the hurt locker since it came out but i remember it is boring and not very good. ZDT is stupid as all hell and blatant propaganda, the writing is straight up retarded (cheesy and unrealistic always, and not on purpose, some dialogue is honestly cringe-worthy), it was heavy handed as fuck... ZDT is awfully put together- its pacing is horribly off, its use of chapters absolutely does not work since it totally messes with the flow of an already badly structured narrative, things go on for far too long, it's often unintentionally funny. I found the entire sequence at the end where they get into Bin Laden's house absolutely hilarious the entire time, and honestly I found it hard to believe that the entire thing was meant to be played entirely straight. It was so silly and totally unbelievable. "Haha dudes were sneaking in all silent lets BLOW UP THISD OOR YES HAHA THETYLL NEVER KNOWWW " and they didn't notice somehow, "lest ALL JUST RUN AROUND THE HOUSE AND TALK NORMALLY THEYLL NEVER KNWOW" and they never know and then they decide "duedes... lets Also take in these helicopters that are prototypes and are not fully safety checked yes that will work for taking down one of the worlds most infamous men!! oh shitt sorry guys we crashed it lol guess we should have checked it more nbd middle-easterns and stupid and deaf didnt you know? lol good thing were american." I don't claim to know much about the events this film is based around or middle-eastern culture OR the American army but spend 5 minutes online looking at innacuracies and you'll see it's straight up retarded how little effort they put in to make the film accurate or realistic (exact same problems The Hurt Locker has- I think Katheryn Bigalow is just a big racist partisan). Things from language, to cultural views, to the way soldiers and ranks act, to the actual events that took place are just so fucking wrong and it shows a blatant lack of care. Done to make America look good and the middle-east look bad. Not to mention this film is BORING AS FUCK. There is hardly any character development, the characters are stereotypical cutouts. Its narrative jumps all around and disorients you (this goes handin hand with bad pacing) Jessica Chastain gives a good performance, a deserved Oscar nom, but her character is terribly written. Very unprofessional and I find it hard to believe someone like her would get put in charge of such an important assignment. [editline]31st December 2013[/editline] it also has no discernible style, its direction and visuals are so goddamn cookie cutter standard. Cannot believe Bigelow got nominated for best director, or that the film got a best writing nomination. (I don't think Django deserved the win but I'm sure glad this didn't win)
Blade Runner - The Final Cut Another movie I had on my list. I could talk about this movie for hours but what I'll mention is that everything in this movie creates the perfect cyberpunk setting.
This is still on my list. I started watching it (got about 20 minutes in) a few months back and really liked it but I was really tired so I had to shut it off. Never got around to finishing it.
Okay what you need to do is click the big X in the top right corner, go put it on your TV and watch it right now
I was up 'til 1:30 last night because I was on a wikipedia spree reading about mafia families in prohibition era new york, which led to me putting on The Godfather before bed. Movie's a straight 10/10. Absolutely perfect. Still haven't seen part 2 or 3, though.
2s okay 3s bad
Lone Survivor - really intense. the action shits all over overrated turds like the hurt locker. yeah it gets a bit cheesy at the end but it was more balanced than I expected. being based on a true story, that I believe the survivor himself said was a very accurate portrayal, just makes it that much more intense.
Thats a revolting film unless you like snuff style, war porn. The film tells us nothing about these men and is just 90 minutes of straight up action based on the account of 1 eye witness,[sp] the only survivor (bullshit anyone?)[/sp]. As a companion to balance this illegal war propaganda I'd recommend the brilliant docu film Dirty Wars where a respected independant journalist peels back the onion on special ops units and the war crimes committed in the middle east in the name of 'War on Terror'. I was absolutely shocked at the details of evil these men unleash on non-combatants and the way even armed groups and individuals are chosen for termination. After that little taster, a broader look at the propaganda machine spanning rolling news and even films like Lone Survivor into one big rolled up turd to hit you over the head with is uncovered. The award winning John Pilger tells 'The war you don't see' in his fantastic docu film. After that it should leave you ready to begin the main feature of Lone Survivor assuming you don't vomit your insides up out of disgust. It's always worth knowing who the good guys really are and why they are fighting. Hope that doesn't ruin anyones movie....... I'd hate to do that.
Platoon 8.5/10 The most evilist motherfucker ever
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty - 7.5/10 Ended up being a lot better than I thought, if you want to watch a light/easy movie give it a go. It does have some problems though. -Blatant product placement, so much of it that it pulled me out of the movie. Probably one of the biggest issues I have with the movie. -The first half is a little slow. The cinematography is really good, so is the soundtrack.
I'm confused as to what the movie is about. Could anyone elaborate on what this movie is about?
Just finished our Traditional Post New Year Movie Watch. Pacific Rim As a movie, it's a pretty solid 3/10. Bad script, dull characters, pointless scenes and annoying/awesome amounts of cheese. As a kaiju/mecha tribute, I'll give it 8 mechagodzillas out of 10 for the design, cgi, faithfulness to asian monster/mecha movies and some pretty neat mindless violence.
What about as a mindless action film?
2s okay 3s bad
Youre implying that godfather 2 isn't better than the first
Anchorman 2 10/10 It's been too long since I sat down at a movie theater and actually fully enjoyed watching a film.
2s okay 3s bad
Second is fantastic and many people think it's superior to one in every way. I like them both for many different things. Third is mediocre, but very important to overall story and is a must watch (at least once) for every Godfather fan.
It's best if you watch all of the movies in the Godfather trilogy at least once although I only watch 1 and 2 nowadays. imo part 2 is also great in its own way.
Well I only watched it because Selena Gomez was in it, but Getaway I think is a good movie. Selena was in it pretty much the whole time, that's a bonus.
Prisoners 9/10
The Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy 5/10 pretty alright. [editline]1st January 2014[/editline]
It's best if you watch all of the movies in the Godfather trilogy at least once although I only watch 1 and 2 nowadays. imo part 2 is also great in its own way.
i got half way through 3 and turned it off. Coppola should have just left it. I actually prefer 2 to 1, but that's probably because I love it when dicks are the main character. And the young Vito scenes.
I only rank Part II lower because of Michael's scenes. I just don't like that part as much, but I admit that the Vito flashbacks are superb.
Secret Life of Walter Mitty - 8/10 Really enjoyed it, if you want something easy going and happy then this is a good go to film. Ben Stiller was good too.

The mainstream media, films and games are all designed with the full support of the military avisors and sometimes the use of the services, assuming of course that the script fits in with the dialog we need to see. As time passes it will be interesting to see if another generation of story tellers will tell the Gulf wars history again without Kath Bigelows blatant propaganda like Oliver Stone did with Vietnam. I hate her films so much now I've boycotted them.
john pilger is an idiot
Care to expand on that?
he thinks Al-Qaida is allied with the US
Not sure where you're quoting that from exactly but most would agree that this brown skinned bogeyman, aka Al-Qaida means these pointless wars can continue. Bin Laden was on the payroll when the Americans were helping the Afghans to kick out the Russians. I'm telling you something you already know. West of Mephis (2012) Fly on the wall docu about the campaign and independant investigation funded by Peter Jackson and help from other celebs. The 3 young men were convicted in 1993 for murdering 3 boys and it seems the evidence was shakey to say the least. It follows the mounting interest in the case as the public and those wanting to help using celeb exposure to give publicity to the case push it back into the news. We know how it ends, if you remember the news that is so its interesting to see how the whiole story works out. I'd say this was very dangerous in terms of finger pointing but does prove theres something very wrong with the justice system when it comes to appeal on certain levels. Well worth a watch, I liked it.
I watched a cool korean horror Tale of Two Sisters. I loved it a lot, it's just my type of horror. Finding something like this is just so hard usually. My only complaint is that the explanation got a bit too convoluted at the end, but it was still sweet. Psychological, creepy body horror (which I didn't see coming), genuinely cool scares. [editline]1st January 2014[/editline] also Lone Survivor - really intense. the action shits all over overrated turds like the hurt locker. yeah it gets a bit cheesy at the end but it was more balanced than I expected. being based on a true story, that I believe the survivor himself said was a very accurate portrayal, just makes it that much more intense.
Do yourself a favor and don't watch the remake
Leviathan- 8/10 Brilliant documentary that I missed at EIFF this year, about a fishing vessel in the Atlantic. The whole thing is shot on Go-pro cameras scattered around the ship- on the outsides, on the crew, the crow's nest, the living quarters, in with the captured fish, and also a fair bit of handheld stuff. The film doesn't really have a narrative or a narrator, there's no dialogue except from occasional stuff the crew says but often you can't even hear them properly. It's a purely visual experience and a very powerful and haunting one at that. Nightmarish. There's a surreal aura around the film, it's dreamlike. This is not a long film at all (87 minutes) but I won't deny it moves very slowly and kinda feels longer than that. But it's not a problem because the film is totally engrossing and I found myself just staring almost into the space of the film but I was drawn into the nightmare that is this film. It took about 20 minutes for me to get properly invested. The shot that turned it around is the first time you're in there with the fish. You're sitting in the box with them as they're floating around, most of them dead but not all. A couple are still writhing, trying to survive, but obviously they won't. It sits there for a good 3 minutes or so (this is a recurring thing- just sitting and watching something for minutes on end) and you really get sucked in. You watch the menial things the crew do, you spend 4 minutes stuck to the outside as the camera sees the side of the boat where guts and blood are being flushed out, then the seagulls come for it. then we get submerged infront of the boat and we see all the dead stuff that they can't use, and honestly it's terrifying. The sound design helps a lot here- it sounds natural but I think it's not, or not totally, there's a metallic echoing that sounds so ominous and it's a bit of a motif in the film. I'm not sure if this film is about being a fisherman, or being a fish. This is one of my top 10 for 2013 already. A few of my favourite images from the film (there are a lot of striking ones) [img_thumb]http://25.media.tumblr.com/dcefe0d3a904807ed3a9af78346d84b1/tumblr_myr05dgPA31r4khibo3_1280.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://24.media.tumblr.com/d6624dcec9d9447bee80d8cf1d28fb8f/tumblr_myr05dgPA31r4khibo6_1280.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://25.media.tumblr.com/c65c61c67d0e419053c9ed132577bf76/tumblr_myr05dgPA31r4khibo8_1280.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://25.media.tumblr.com/bbd0d21f3ceee13ab6d2d12945093424/tumblr_myr05dgPA31r4khibo10_1280.jpg[/img_thumb] here is the rest of the album too. Its 10 images. Highly recommended
Paranorman- 9/10 Really surprising. Wasn't really expecting much going into it.
I had heard it was good but didn't really know much about the plot other than "he can talk to ghosts" going into it. It was a pleasant surprise that I really enjoyed, with a neat story and beautiful animation. I love stop-motion and, having made some very simple ones as a kid, often find myself wondering how they pulled off a certain effect.
Gatekeepers (2012) Shin Bet is the Isreali homeland security / intelligence service that controls operations against domestic and outside threats. In its history its had 6 heads of dept and this is an interview of all 6 about the specific operations, the Palestinian issue and what they feel they accomplished. It's very revealing and they all seem to have very similar ideas about things in retrospect of their service. I was facinated to learn about what they do and also how close they came to a peace deal before that right wing muppet shot Rabin, his own president. A fantastic docu thats adds more understanding to a complex problem. Not for meatheads.
Frozen - 9/10 After the disappointment of recent Disney animated features, I was a bit apprehensive of going to see this one. But I was entertained thoroughly by the stunning visuals, amazing music, and likeable characters. A great movie overall.
