Kill List, yes. Saw that and went straight out and bought it. The trailers on the blu ray were a bit fucked up.
I think 'our day will come' was one of the trailers, it's a french film about mentally unstable ginger people. It's actually really great
Theres 2 options on my disk, Brit and Australian and depending on what option you pick depends on the trailers, both looked tasty. Thanks for the rec.
Edit: Vincent Cassel, now we're talking.
something I say to people sometimes is that Asian horror films make me feel horror, American horror films make me feel terror, and British horror films make me feel dread. This was my favourite film of 2011 easily, it was just so dark and ugly, the soundtrack is just awful in the best way possible - dat whistle. Also the cold open is brilliant, it just sort of hits you round the head with it's aggression.
[editline]2nd January 2014[/editline]
also reading into the theory surrounding the film is really interesting as well once you've seen it, kind of helps give things clarity
Yeah the mystery surrounding their past was excellent and the total lack of exposition was a dangerous but really smart move. You're pretty much blind the whole time and you're just following them on this journey trying to piece things together- who are these weird dudes hiring them, what's the relationship between the hits, why do they act as they do etc, and yea the soundtrack along with the strange editing really creates a sense of dread and fear of something horrible happening. I had no idea what it was although I did catch on to it being about [sp]a cult[/sp] and had ideas about things like [sp]them being sacrifices[/sp] and then later on worked out what the cut might have been about, but yea its a film that really makes you think and it was a great experience. About to watch his latest film, A Field in England, just now.
Please report back, I was a bit disappointed with Sightseers.

haha prepare to understand NOTHING about what's going on. I love it
I've had that on my watchlist for ages, I will try this film.
The Twilight Samurai (2002)
Don't expect 90 minutes of chop socky sword swinging because this is a real Japanese film that takes its time. The story follows a delicate man who mourns his wife and just wants to mind his own business. Times change and external forces put him in a difficult position and also make him confront his feelings.
This was by no means in the league of Kurosawa but was a fine film, I liked it.
I left school some time ago and this reads like some shit from a playground. I've always been polite to you, I expect you to extend me the same courtesy. Don't like my posts? Skim over them.
Watch it. You might not totally like it because it also burries this "indie vibe" but it doesn't rely on it and that's nice.
I like melancholic movies. Stuff like Lost in Translation.

what is even the difference, in your words? not a native speaker so i'm legitimately curious
what is even the difference, in your words? not a native speaker so i'm legitimately curious
I understand it like this: Terror is being on edge and wanting to run away or punch somebody. Dread is knowing that something bad is going to happen but not wanting to look away. Horror is when the fear is more atmospheric, like seeing a dismembered body (it's not something to run away from, but it's still scary.)
Sounds like the difference between British comedy and American.
So basically, horror is disgusting/disturbing, terror is outright scary and terrifying, and dread is unsettling?
Frozen - 8.5/10

Really great stuff. It was made by the people behind Tangled and Wreck-It Ralph, two movies I love, so it was cool to see the influences from things I liked there coming back again.
I liked the art design, and the crystalline structures of all the icy things. The voice cast was good, and the songs were excellent. There were cute parts, funny parts, and a good deal of heartstring-tugging going on. I liked how it simultaneously poked fun at and embraced traditional fairy-tale topics like "true love". It was a bit simplistic or silly at times, but the good parts more than overcame that. All in all another fine Disney film.
Also I was pleasantly surprised to find that Olaf the snowman was not terrible at all. Why didn't the trailers focus on the two princesses, or the great music, or the importance of family?

yeah basically, my english literature teacher taught me the best way to tell the difference between horror and terror - you'd say the Rape of Nanking horrified you, but you'd say being in a car accident terrified you. Terror is more immediate, while horror is about the realisation of what exactly is occuring
and yeah dread is just a knowledge that something bad will happen but hasn't yet
A Field In England- 6/10
Definitely not as good as Kill List but its an interesting film. 4 men in 17th century England run away from a war and go on a search for buried treasure. During which they eat a load of shroom and trip like shit for half the movie. Fuck knows what even happens in this film quite honestly. It's well shot and very well edited, with great sound design, but honestly I feel like there is no point in this film whatsoever. Like it means totally nothing. Its just dudes tripping balls in a field for 90 minutes. The film is like a less clever and symbolic Jodorowsky film. One of the things that sets them apart is that Jodorowsky actually has something to say. I don't think this film did at all.

I honestly don't know exactly what I think of it. I hate it and love it at the same time. One thing I will say that's a little interesting is that the intensity of the trippiness of the film follows the initial-peak re-peak then valley trip I had on magic mushrooms. Like it's very close to how a psychadelic trip can feel, just without the euphoria
tbh I neither loved nor hated it, just kinda sat in the middle the whole time, at least up until the second trip. I did really like it from then onwards but it couldn't save the film since there was only like 10 minutes left. Never done shrooms so I couldn't comment on that aspect of the film really.
47 Ronin - 8/10
Most actors weren't even japanese, Keanu's character was just pushed to the side and spoonfed compliments, but atleast the ending didn't force anything, which gives it 2 points.
Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy
Watched these movies for the first time with my friends today. Really freaking good and pretty funny. Hot Fuzz was probably my favorite one/the funniest one but SotD was excellent too. World's End was good but not as funny as the other two, but I will say that Worlds End was the most "unique" or "wtf" of the three. Kind of hard to get more random than a bar crawl during an robot (sorry, they're not slaves apparently so the word robot is bad) alien occupation. I definitely loved the throwbacks between them. The fucking jumping over fences, jesus christ my sides. Superb acting all around. I know some people don't like seeing actors repeatedly in different movies but it worked well here. I kind of imagined them all as alter-egos of each other
wolf of wall street
good/good
good movie
the scene where dicaprio is using the payphone at the country club when the quaaludes kicked in had me fucking dying
This is the End
Almost universally terrible. Very few parts of it were funny. The entire movie was pointless, stupid, and offensive basically. I know they tried to make it a joke where the actors just play themselves but it was really poorly done. Admittedly none of the actors in it were terribly good anyways so its right up their alley. The story was bad, the Christian theology tie-in was inaccurate and unnecessary and almost offensive imo. The movie was too drawn out and relied too much on crudity and vulgarity to try to be funny, neither of which particularly appeal to me. For examples of actually good and intelligent comedies, see above post of mine. I'd give it a 1.5/10. Movie just screamed lazy to me
Since I seem to be wrong, what exactly the fuck was good about it? A 5 minute dialogue where they try to compete to see how can say jerk off and cum the most? That shit might be funny to a 13 year old but not me
Wrong Cops - 7/10
Rec
Probably one of the best found-footage movies I've seen. Realistic enough to be convincing but not jerky enough to make me want to puke. The movie was good overall but had a few plot holes that were forgivable. It's creepy as shit though, especially in the last 20 minutes. Don't watch it in the dark. Also the main reporter character was super hot. I felt pretty bad for Pablo too
the one funny part of this is the end was michael cera
[editline]3rd January 2014[/editline]
sip time
Yeah the only redeeming part was him. Honestly it was funny as hell, if only that could be true for the rest of it but its not sadly
it says a lot if the only funny part of your movie was michael cera because he was acting out of character for michael cera
Wasn't that the point?
wolf of wall street

The first one is quite good, the second however isn't as good. Still not bad, but not as good. Have yet to see the other 2.
Yeah I still haven't heard a single actual rebuttal against how This is the End is not a gigantic steaming pile of shit
Face it, it was a terrible movie and doesn't hold a candle to that of Superbad or Pineapple Express
Because I thought it was pretty funny. Maybe a 7/10 on the funny scale.
