4/5
It's been awhile, but I've finally caught back up with the James Bond films. George Lazenby really didn't get a fair shake, in my opinion. As far as his Bond goes, he's doing his best to impersonate Connery, while bringing little of anything else to the table. Still, a valiant effort to fill his shoes.
Everything was pretty good, as far as classic Bond films go. My main complaints would probably be that the film isn't all that engaging at times, and at other moments, it feels like "James Bond at the Winter Olympics." Otherwise, it's good.
Favorite james bond movie, Lazenby is my favorite Bond for his suave nature and cheesiness which I love. The film is very weird though, I mean the scene with them having dinner with all those food shots is so abnormal.

Isn't that the one where Bond wanders around in a kilt for 30 minutes?
I think Lazenby left the role of Bond because his agent convinced him to. The ski chase was pretty cool though.
Didn't FCH put Zero Dark Thirty in his top ten films for 2012?
But I have read some of his other articles and they were pretty damn good. Always good to hear another insightful and explained opinion.
Can't remember. It was an acclaimed film though and a lot of people did. I didn't like it and I recently stated my reasons, I'm sure he wrote some interesting stuff about it and things I didn't think of. Regardless of opinion tho, never hate a movie- this is one of the best articles on film I have ever read and gets continually better as you read on. It honestly changed the way I look at cinema. I find myself not following Tarantino's mantra as much as I would like. I don't say "should". There's no right or wrong way to look at cinema, but there are different ways and each view brings its own perspective (obviously). That's inherent. But to me this is the strongest perspective from an artistic and critical standpoint, and the one more people should employ (not that I, or anyone at all, are in a position to tell someone how to use their own brain). I feel this is more than a view of films. It's a view of art and work and people and life. It's a mindset. About not being to quick to judge, not panning something just because you don't like it, not hating a person because you don't agree with them. Cutting people some slack. Seeing the other side. I think if you understand what FCH and Tarantino are talking about here then you'll see it, and understand that it's not a view of film but a view of life. I'm sure I'm not the only person who doesn't give a whole lot of respect to a blind pan of a film without allowing any leeway whatsoever, just destroying it. Same goes for anyone criticising anything. Its dumb and naive. How am I supposed to respect your article if you don't respect or understand the material you're writing about.
Anyway FCH's opinion of a specific film is not gonna make a difference to how I look at FCH- you gotta look at both ends of the spectrum. Hell, even if I disagreed with a lot of his opinions on what film is good or bad, I would still read his stuff because he writes to well and has so much to say. I rank him above most professional film critics working nowadays. He doesn't need to do "reviews", he just talks about film, how it works, how it doesn't, why something is what it is, what it means. He talks about the existentialism of cinema. That's really what FCH wants to discuss imo. In the grand scale of things. He prompts the big questions I suppose, and he says something new and interesting in every single article. He makes you think about what is cinema, why do people love cinema. Why it's a waste to hate a film. What is the purpose of cinema etc. I think he also poses questions and points about films you wouldn't think about, and every article says something new. He makes a post about a specific film but it always goes so far beyond just that. It's the kind of film criticism and theory I want to get more into and have been meaning to explore for a while but never really have. I feel like I will soon.
starship troopers
it's so damn cringeworthy but silly at the same time

Just read through that article and some others. They're a great read and seems to be a lot of heart behind what he writes which is always important. Plus he writes pretty damn good despite the 24/7 HULK SPEAK and he explains his points well.
I like him.

His Man of Steel article was also good.
The Empire Strikes Back (Unaltered) - 10/10
The Yoda x-wing scene is one of the most magical moments in cinema, god it's so emotionally entrancing.

that fucking soundtrack man

also, there's really no problems with the special editions of empire imo, except in the '97 edition when they gave luke the emperor's scream as he falls down into the air shaft after losing his hand.
unless you're one of those people who get so ravaged over the replacing of the monkey woman/clive revill with ian mcdiarmid, which makes sense so that it all fits better (hence the hayden christensen ghost at the end of rotj, though i still think it's unnecessary as we don't know what anakin really looks like when he gets older).
and you know those touch-ups on cloud city made it a lot better.
What's actually the consensus on that remake? I love the original trilogy and the books. The only real stuff I've heard of it was Film Crit Hulk who went on about how Fincher accidentally made the rape scene sexy and my parents who said the film was pathetic and far inferior to the original, but I've seen a fair few people online say it's good and it's sitting at 7.9/10 on IMDb.
The "remake" is superior to swedish film. In almost every aspect. It's definitely Fincher film, so it's a good thriller but sadly not really a faithful adaptation (but I don't consider "original" trilogy to completely right with books either). It's kinda noticeable when you are comapring high budget film with everything being bigger to a small swedish film.
I'm saying this, because original films weren't that good for me. I read books several times before and simply swedish version didn't do them justice. I actually got bored while watching first part, and I didn't even bother with third later. I also think Mara played better Lisbeth, and Craig has more charisma than Nyqvist. If someone thought that swedish film was great then there's no need watching remake.
And to expand, Film Crit Hulk is pretty much the single best online film critic. Straight up. Once you get past his little gimmick and accept that his articles are going to be long, they're all very very rewarding and insightful. If you're not reading FCH you're not doing it right.
I just read his The World's End analysis and it was pretty damn interesting and insightful.
I couldn't possibly make it through another of his articles though, that 'little gimmick' is so obnoxious I don't know why he's stuck with it for so long. It's especially painful on the eyes because he tends to write a paragraph where a sentence would be better.
Ip Man:
I really like this film, the action scenes were really awesome but I didn't really like the story that much, bad guy comes and good guy fights them. Maybe it's because I'm not used to watching Kung Fu films though, were I know its focused on the action, but I'd rather have an engaging story. Still a really good film with nice cinematography and action.
8/10
Carrie (2013) with alternate ending- handvagina/10
[sp] not even kidding, the alternate ending that was "too scary for theaters" was Sue having a dream about giving birth and Carrie's hand comes out her vagina and grabs her. It's fucking hilarious. [/sp]
That's almost as retarded as the theatrical ending

OH MY GOD
I just watched 1408 for the first time.
And i gotta say, i were surprised. Usually i don't think movies are scary, or weird, and i cant really remember the last time a movie gave me the chills. But this movie... It is a masterwork.
When i started the movie i thought it were the usual jump-scare movie... But nah. In the middle of the movie i thought i knew where it were going, but naah.
In the end, i were not happy with the ending, but it was not what i expected.
This was the best movie i have seen in a long time, and i would say 10/10.
what
1408 was so bad. it literally pains me to watch that movie
it fucking hurts
A Clockwork Orange
4/5
First time seeing it as a matter of fact. Wasn't own over at first, but damn, did it get better. Real horrorshow.
Funny Games (1997)
Hollywood in the 90's saw a run of cat and mouse thrillers and it's seems Michael Haneke decided to have a go in the early days. Ulrich Muhe stars as the upper middle class dad with everything to lose and one day they get 2 visitors to their holiday home. Everything is to play for and so starts the story. The story isn't anything new as it's been done a million times but there were a couple of odd moments that shows a glimmer of a great director in the making. The performances were near on perfect but the body of the film just didn't cut it. Too much time was spent on nothing scenes and I got to the point where I was looking forward to the credits. Haneke obviously mastered his slow art of story telling because everything else after this was first class. Worth a watch but don't expect a classic.

I actually think this is one of hanekes strongest work. A piece of genius to me. Such a powerful critique that really makes you look at yourself and your mindset
just my two cents but 1408 is a fucking piece of trash and john cusack is unbearable as always
it's a dumb, unscary and convuluted jump scare movie
[editline]5th January 2014[/editline]
i'd like to remind you all that You're Next is out on blu-ray and dvd now, and if you love slashers with some smarts you should see it
The Iron Giant: 10/10
I haven't watched this movie since I was in my teens and man, this film is still a pleasure. Concept, pacing, acting, and presentation are still some of the best in an animated family film. Really hoping it makes its way to Blu-Ray eventually.

so much agree
all my friends were like "yay 1408 is so cool" so I watched it and... well I just see it as yet another spooky style ghost nonsense movie with a weak story and no substance.
1408 is alright, no masterpiece but it's not terrible.

I used to have a HD version saved on my DVR but the damn thing broke.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty - 7.5/10
I enjoyed this one, like everyone else has said it has great cinematography, a few laughs here and there.

I think his change from imagining to "I'll just do it" was nonexistant. I mean there obviously was a development because he is different from the beginning of the movie but it didn't feel natural.
Monsters University 7/10 - It was enjoyable and I liked how they explored the origins of many relationships in the first film. It did miss a lot of heart and soul though and I probably won't remember much a few months from now.
Death Race 2000 (1975)
ohgod/10 | 35/100
Teen Wolf (1985)
35/100
Her 9.5/10 I love this movie. The performances, the costume design, the cinematography, the subject matter, the sci-fi. Only reason it's not a 10/10 is because its hard for me to justify something being absolutely perfect, but its darn close.
Wolf on Wall Street 9/10 Great movie, some people felt it was too long, I didn't. Nuff said.
American Hustle 7/10 I really wanted to love this movie but it moved just so slowly and by the end I just didn't care anymore. Kind of a disappointment because I really expected to love it. Still a above average movie though.
Walter Mitty 6.5/10 Entertaining movie but not the greatest.
Carrie(2013) - 7/10. Having never seen the original, or read the book. The movie did an -ok- job of filling me in. Though from what I've heard is that they've missed out on a lot of other areas and did not create as much of a grimace state the book/original movie created.
Also, I had to read up on this image to find it. Kind of makes me wonder if they had an alternate ending in mind, or wanted people to find it? Cause when I watched it the first time, I didn't even notice.

The Crow - 8.5/10
A really great movie, Brandon Lee does a great performance similar to Heath Ledger's Joker. The atmosphere of the movie is also very great for a dark movie
R.I.P. Brandon Lee
Frozen 8/10
Really enjoyable. I thought most of the songs were really good apart from the one the trolls sing. I'm also glad the whole "true love" thing wasn't how it normally is.
I really like seeing James McAvoy in movies, really looking forward to "Filth"
