I wanna come back to Man of Steel for a moment. To be more specific, Zod's plan because it almost physically hurts at how fucking retarded Zod executes it.
The thing to keep in mind is that Zod does not care about anything besides the fate of Krypton. [sp]Even when on the planet itself, he started a violent revolution because he did not like the way things were going. He is hardwired to zealously defend Krypton and will not brook any opposition. Zod does not particularly want superpowers. There were no superpowers on Krypton so he is fine with terraforming the planet so that it no longer provides these abilities. He'll gladly use them as a tool to shut down opposition but doesn't see them as a goal. He doesn't have a reason to like or respect the young upstart Kal-El. On his last moments in Krypton, Zod was defeated by Jor-El and watched as the scientist literally took away Krypton's future from him. So he's not particularly interested in glad-handling the upstart. Remember, he captured and weakened Superman aboard his ship, and would have probably ripped the matrix out of him had Lois and Robo-Jor not stopped him. He likely views him - and his father - as traitors to Krypton.[/sp] [editline]8th January 2014[/editline] keep in mind that I think Man of Steel is wildly uneven and had one of the worst scripts in a long time so it's not like I'm reaching to defend every facet of a movie I love
Mark Waid - who had a lot of problems with the movie - liked Jonathan.
I know about Mark Waid's opinion on Jonathan Kent, and his 'minor' reaction towards the ending. However, I was speaking in terms of people I actually know and sadly, I haven't met Mark Waid yet. Although Mark Waid's a fantastic writer for Superman and he writes a lot of interesting stuff about superheroes in general, I disagree with him on the quality of Jonathan's character and arc. The other problem for me is that the only people who would have thought what Waid was thinking, are die hard Superman fans + comic readers which Mark Waid definitely is. Nobody else would care and once you've taken out the pivotal role the Kents had in the journey of Clark Kent/Kal-El to Superman, all you have left is just possible interesting stuff for comic book fans and 'eh' for people who don't care about Superman and his mythos.
Just watched The Bothersome man 7.5/10 Really makes you think, The ending can mean many things.
Warrior (2011) - 10/10. Easily one of the greatest movies I've ever seen and I'm not even exaggerating. Maybe because it hits a little bit close to home at some parts, but it's mostly due to the superb acting and the absolute best character development I've seen in a very long time. Definitely a must see. If you aren't interested in MMA or sports in general, you're in luck because that is hardly the main point of the film, it's simply used as a subplot to carry the storyline forward.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug - 6/10... Now that I'm done being hyped through the roof for any further Hobbit films, I can approach them rationally. It does some things well and other things terribly. [sp]I enjoyed the barrel sequence, the Mirkwood sequence, and Smaug.(for the first few minutes but then holy christ it dragged and turned into an awful chase sequence) Also, would've enjoyed a lot more Beorn. Hated the Laketown scenes, they're nice to look at but good lord they were boring and uninteresting. Bard's character was probably the only saving grace and maybe Stephen Fry if he had anything to do. Legolas and Tauriel were so unnecessary that it isn't even funny, Legolas in particular because he ends up having an unnecessarily prolonged sequence with Bolg... Tauriel I could tolerate just because she had some connection to the party, and then there was the Dol Guldur sequence... how in the unholy fuck did they screw this up so badly? Nevermind how OUT OF CHARACTER they made Gandalf... but then they had to shove the fact that the Necromancer is Sauron right in our faces so obnoxiously and then gave him a ridiculous amount of power at such an early stage in his return.[/sp] God, what the hell happened to you, PJ? Cloud Atlas - 8/10... Went into this expecting to hate it and came out actually liking it a lot. Beautiful music, great story-telling... though it took a couple of viewings to get it down, memorable scenes, great make up for the most part save for the majority of the Neo Seoul actors, and it really never felt like it was dragging. I can see why it would be hard to follow for some, however, it's a lot of story to cram into a film. It probably worked a lot better if it was a miniseries. Gravity - 8.5/10... This was also better than I was expecting and a personal contender for one of the best films of 2013. Sandra Bullock was actually good for once! Great music, insane sense of isolation throughout, heart attack inducing action sequences, great characterization, and it didn't overstay its welcome; in fact I could've stood to watch another 40 minutes of it.

The Wolf of Wall Street, an easy 9.5/10. Fuck it was amazing. I would have given it a 10 if it weren't for the fact that there's so many other great movies out there that are in the same boat as this movie for me. [editline]9th January 2014[/editline] Also I saw 12 Years a Slave recently as well. 9.5/10. Pretty fucking great movie as well, Leonardo definitely has some tough contenders this year for the Oscars with Chiwetel Ejiofor in the list for best actor. [editline]9th January 2014[/editline]
Man of Steel 3/10 Y'know, when people told me I would probably find it underwhelming, I corrected my expectations. To no avail, sadly. I wasn't expecting this movie to be so fucking shit. The cinematography is nauseating at times, the dialogue is utterly laughable, the characters are either bland, stupid or both (Jonathan Kent, fuck you so much), nothing makes any sense, it's a trainwreck. Especially when I almost sympathized with Zod, YOUR VILLAIN, and found him more interesting than the hero! I like Michael Shannon's portrayal of Zod, as schizophrenic as it may be. A man who has found what is the last hope for his home planet and desperately clings to it. The means truly justify the end in his opinion. Part of that is probably because he has more development than Superman himself. We are given a reason, we get backstory, we know why Zod is the man he is and what he does. The guy had his home planet explode before his eyes and the amount of Kryptonians can now practically be counted on one hand. His methods are extreme because the man is completely and utterly broken but his intentions are good (disregarding his plan to[sp]terraform the earth[/sp]that has so many fucking holes in it it's not even funny). Superman is a bit of a blank slate. I just can't really find myself cheering for the guy because I didn't really feel compelled to side with him other than the movie telling me to. Only go see this if you want a 2-hour class on how not to write dialogue.
Yeah, Man of Steel was pretty shit. And some of the performances in the movie were god awful, especially from some of the side characters in the movie. It was a good thing I didn't pay for the movie since someone was kind enough to pay for me, because that money would have been wasted on trash.
Iron Man 3 I really enjoyed it. The plot is a little convoluted and everything is blown out of proportion, typical Marvel style, but I thought it was way better than the 2 but not quite as good as 1. Contrary to popular opinion I liked the Mandarin, he was hilarious. I had a hell of a lot of fun, and it felt quite different from its previous installments. 7.5/10

Yeah, he has no reason to like or respect Kal-El but surely even the born-and-bred soldier knows his actions really don't help his argument? But yeah, Man of Steel is poorly written, let's leave it at that.
But yeah, Man of Steel is poorly written, let's leave it at that.
poorly written, poorly paced, poorly acted, poorly edited, poorly directed, etc. It's a pisspoor disappointment.
Zach Snyder is awful that's why
I liked Watchmen and 300, but damn he's become worse and worse since then.
And david s goyer is a shit writer. Only reason the dark knight trilogy was good is cos the nolans cowrote and even then the plots are convoluted and has some terrible dialogue Tbh 300 Is good but that's cos it's dumb and just stylish visuals but it's the only thing Snyder can do [editline]9th January 2014[/editline] Watchmen I'm still undecided on tbh, like idk if I love it or if it's kinda shitty. It's weird.
IMO Hayter needs more praise for the Watchmen film than Snyder. [editline]9th January 2014[/editline] Even Alan Moore, the grumpy king of hate, liked Hayter's original screenplay. [editline]9th January 2014[/editline]
wat
Yeah they're both dead, like how it was in Pre-Crisis. And I honestly prefer it that way.
Zach Snyder is awful that's why
some of the effects (flying w/sonic booms, super-speed, heat vision) looked pretty damn great, but the destruction was too over the top and the movie was too damn gray I blame Goyer more than Snyder for the end product

Zach Snyder had a good thing going with doing schlocky action films like Dawn of the Dead and 300... and then he tried branching out. Watchmen was a fluke, a flawed fluke.
Finished watching the Before Trilogy (Before sunrise, sunset and midnight) im giving it a solid 10/10, the first and third being excellent and the second being just a tiny little bit less excellent. at first i was skeptical about watching this at all, it looked like it was devoid of any real...realism. like it wouldve been a sort of fairytale in a fake fairytale world. But instead it's a fairytale in a very natural and realistic world like the one in which we live in! I might not have had alot of relationships or any romantic moments in my life, but this movie made sense and that's all thanks to the substance in its writing. it's well thought, ridiculously well written and the acting in all the three movies are top notch.

Watchmen was a fluke, a flawed fluke.
The "Ultimate Cut" of Watchmen, IMO, is much better than the Theatrical version. It's probably the closest to a true, faithful adaptation of an Alan Moore comic we'll ever see... The question is, did we ever want to see one at all?
Looper 7.5/10 enjoyed the plot and the acting and the world but I felt like something was missing.
I have not seen Watchmen yet but I think it is far better suited for a miniseries adaptation than a film
My favourite cinema just posted this on facebook. It turned 100 yesterday (I attended the pre-screening of Inside Llewyn Davis and it's incredible. I'll write a review later but I'm busy. Go fuckin see it when it's out properly- I know I'll be catching it at least once more) and appears to be doing monthly things for it. Yes, that is fucking Tommy Wiseau. The Room screens here pretty much every year but finally the masterful auter Mr Wiseau is making an appearance and o goddamn im SO GOING also to contribute-- Before trilogy is outstanding and one of my favourite trilogies of all time despite having only watched them all this month. Too great. Loved every second- strangely, Before Sunset was actually my favourite. Although I think Before Midnight is the best one.
The Illusionist (2006) 7.5/10 I liked Giamatti's performance in this and Edward Norton, overall solid film
The Wolf of Wall Street - 9/10 12 Years A Slave - 9/10 Her - 9/10 The only reason these films aren't 10's is because I feel uncomfortable calling anything perfect

Is Dredd worth it? Uh, worth the time? Because there is a fine line between good mindless action and terrible that. [editline]9th January 2014[/editline] Not made in Hollywood? this might be good
Dredd kicks ass. Watch it. Also AK'z, Her is 14th February. Which is Valentines Day and ill maybe go see it by myself to feel really bad about life. 12 Years A Slave is out 10th January (tomorrow) and WOWS is the 17th. Useful tip for everyone, if you don't know when a film comes out in your country click on the date on the IMDb page-

The Stallone version because it's so bad it's good and the new version because, apparently, it's kick-ass. My brother's had it on blu-ray for yonks, I should really watch it.
