Is Dredd worth it? Uh, worth the time? Because there is a fine line between good mindless action and terrible that. [editline]9th January 2014[/editline] Not made in Hollywood? this might be good
no its not worth it despite everyone in this thread constantly praising dredd why do you ask (yes see dredd its fantastic)
I'm pretty sure both are worth your time. The Stallone version because it's so bad it's good and the new version because, apparently, it's kick-ass. My brother's had it on blu-ray for yonks, I should really watch it.
the stallone film has really bad dialogue, and rob schneider. but the visuals are what makes it watchable. the urban film is just fuckin fantastic though, and he portrays the character of judge dredd much better than stallone for example, the famous quote comparison vs and of course, the fact that stallone takes his helmet off, because his face has so much market value.
Yep sure was. Managed to entertain, disgust, and genuinely humor me all in a good way. Loved the cut up bitch, and Dredd, and Awon Barksdale, and everything, it strangely reminded me of fucking FallOutNV with the wasteland in the beginning which I didn't expect (I knew nothing of the whole Dredd-universe), and also having used exactly incendiary, high explosive and high caliber rounds. Anyway brutal fucking movie. "Choke on that." But it also had its few "funny" cliches like constantly threatening the only dude who knows how the building's OS works, and revealing master plans. :v: It was also similar to The Raid as it seems. Checking the budgets it was about 50 million versus a million. Makes sense with 3D and all probably. Also 3 mini-guns? Overkill indeed, points for Dredd actually acknowledging it in the movie.
LAAAWWW.
world war z - boring Was going to write about this movie but i just cant be arsed. it's dumb, cliche and boring as fuuuck. I hate this movie and I hate zombies. dont watch
WWZ is decent.
world war z - boring Was going to write about this movie but i just cant be arsed. it's dumb, cliche and boring as fuuuck. I hate this movie and I hate zombies. dont watch
I don't particularly hate zombies, but I hate bad films.
It was better than I thought it was going to be, I could see myself watching it again if I was in a mood for zombies.
world war z is really bad by the way.
World War Z, AKA Brad Pitt Presents: Around the World in 7 Days.
Big Trouble in Little China Still very enjoyable. I didn't get into it as much as I usually do, probably because I was watching it on a small laptop screen in a lit room with my buddy and I had had a long day. I have tried to explain this movie to several people recently (because it's on Netflix again and I am trying to convince them to see it) but I am constantly stymied in this endeavor. The film is a hodgepodge of styles, moods, and plot points but very rarely feels jumbled or messy. There's a great balance of comedy and serious moments, flesh-and-blood and mystic monsters, mundane and magical. It's certainly a very unique movie.

Walter Mitty 4/5 It was entertaining and looked goddamn beautiful. Sometimes that's all you need in a movie.
When my friend showed it to me he called it a 'proper old-time adventure'. I think that sums it up pretty well.
Is your friend an old-timey radio personality?
The Wolf of Wall Street - 9.5/10 I'm not going to say much, except go watch this movie, now.
world war z is really bad by the way.
didn't even have to watch it
The Wolf of Wall Street - 9.5/10 I'm not going to say much, except go watch this movie, now.
sounds pretty promising, will do
The Wolf of Wall Street - Epic American Hustle - Epic The Butler - Great Gravity - Great (Expected her to die every second of the movie, thanks Game of Thrones) Carrie - Pretty good (Haven't seen original, subject to change)
I have not seen Watchmen yet but I think it is far better suited for a miniseries adaptation than a film
Honestly, the Director's Cut and the Ultimate Cut do a really good job at adapting the book.
Looking at Stallone's Dredd, I'm certainly gonna skip that. Never like the actor anyway, and that video bit alone didn't work for me at all it looked kinda ridiculous and not gritty.
through retrospect and discussion ive decided american hustle is a messy shitty rip off of Scorsese and it confirmed that David O Russell just wings it and has no discernible style whatsoever and relies on actors to carry his films [editline]10th January 2014[/editline] also i'm wondering if anyone else thinks American Hustle was terribly shot? Like it's so spastic and messy and moves around way too much when it doesn't need to or just totally shouldn't, things are badly framed, I honestly felt the whole thing was surreal and definitely not on purpose but because it's confusing and messy to look at, and alongside a convoluted script that doesn't really make sense it felt almost Twin Peaks style Lynchian but not nearly as good or deliberate.
About Time 8/10 was a nice film, didn't play out like every single Damn romance film out there and had some nice comedy. Very relatable at times too. If you want something that'll have you smiling throughout most of it, I recommend this movie
'ang on you're in the UK too, how did you do it?
..think about it
get bent, i have to wait weeks to get any of those.. probably months for Her :-[ [editline]9th January 2014[/editline] 'ang on you're in the UK too, how did you do it?
Screeners are out now. I was talking with one of my workmates today who got screeners of Her and stuff cos he knows someone who works at the BAFTAs but apparently he's not allowed to give them out (obviously). Still, I'd rather wait for the theatre releases anyway. they'll all be up online by now :v:
When my friend showed it to me he called it a 'proper old-time adventure'. I think that sums it up pretty well.
I think the thing that I really like is that it's a slow burn. It doesn't introduce all of the crazy mystical stuff right away - heck, even once the eight-foot tall maniac with light coming out of his mouth Lo Pan has been introduced the most pressing issues are "gangsters have stolen my truck" and "my fiancee has been kidnapped". It's not until quite a bit later that we are really introduced to what's going on, and all the magical business with Egg Shen doesn't even happen until the third act. The pacing really keeps the movie from feeling jumbled or all over the place even with so many factors added to it.
ok my fellow negros, here's movies: ワンダフルライフ (After Life) Simply superb. From nowhere, again... the philosophy of the Asian ways comes through in this straight-forward sweet flick. So very well acted and poised from beginning to end. It's VERY much my kind of night film; it is a film that conceptually is really out there yet the themes are so close to the heart. It's another time that I'll call a movie a modern masterpiece. It took me to another place, I actually felt lifted to another world when aesthetically this is just your ordinary flick taking place in ordinary places. Sometimes the simplest things can change your movie watching ways. Changing Lanes Here's a HIDDEN GEM mate. Ben Affleck and Sam Jackson, two dynamite actors. Maybe you may not think much of either of these but I think the characters they portray here are some of their most genuine. The plot is simple, again.. it's nothing to push you to the edge but I felt something real for these folk, the way they react to the situations they tackle through the space of one day can just put your life out of flow completely. It almost destroyed my heart but thankfully that wasn't the case. :) Deffo one to checkout. It had a real message that could be absorbed by everyone, yet it receives the crap average by IMDB. Sod the consensus! :eng101: Pacific Rim caw that's one nice flashing lights and flying saucers experience, thing is... you realise you're getting old when your 7 year old nephew has to explain that it's a portal that those monster things are emerging from. thx pal. also why doesn't Nelson Mandela age when it flashbacks 20 years? it is a mystery to me. The Butler Decent film, Idi Amin sure lost a lot of weight. I dunno it's nothing to really go all out and go "oO this will really stir your soul". In all honesty I didn't have as much admiration for the butler character at all, this wasn't Forest's fault. Oprah surprised me quite a bit, there was some realism in her ways here, I think Whitaker's son here did mighty well too. It's worth a watch for those days to chill and digest a bit of history. In ways it's a Forrest Gump extravaganza that is void of the Forrest but has Forest Whitaker instead. :) Sunshine on Leith Musicals... yeah I never bothered to delve that way but I just threw it on and it really gripped me. It's quite a heartfelt bit of film tbh, it's cheesy but I dug it. When the songs were sung, I felt like I was there with them and it was pretty good. Recommended, I think this film will stay with me for a while.. 더 테러 라이브 (Terror, Live) Nice bit of Korean thrillerness. It's like a cross between the films Talk Radio and Phonebooth. That may not intrigue a whole lot of folk but I enjoyed this. It's quite well made and reasonably surprising. I did see this on the plane and it was a well worthy choice. Thx british airways, shit food though.
The Terminator(1984) - 9/10. God I love how this film was shot. I just love the general retroactive feel, and the way it was shot. The bloom, the grain, everything added to the movie. The horrendous CG cyborg Arnold, the fake model of Arnolds head while he was carving out his eye. The acting wasn't that greatest, but hey, it was certainly damn well a wonderful film to watch, and nostalgia over.
I hate this movie and I hate zombies. dont watch
then why did you watch it to begin with? derp.
disgusting compression... whoever encoded that must try harder [editline]10th January 2014[/editline]
The horrendous CG cyborg Arnold, the fake model of Arnolds head
I was so confused at that scene when I was a kid, I thought he was wearing a paper mache mask but now I realise the truth. [editline]10th January 2014[/editline] I still like it, it's a nice bit of cheesy 80s special techniques that brings a smile to my face.

As well as it was just put through .jpg compression from Paint that I used for quick edits. When I saw it, I'm fairly sure I was freaked out, but then I thought it was amazing as well. I'm going to watch all of them until the most recent. I did not like that one at all. Felt the worse out of the Terminator series.
I vow never to see Salvation again... it was too plastic an experience to comprehend. McG is a turd of a director. [editline]10th January 2014[/editline] again I'm gonna say T3 was a neat bit of cheese that didn't bastardise the first two to death.
