Django Unchained - 8/10
I've meant to see this movie earlier, but I'm not the Quentin Tarantino fan so I've tried to avoid it. But I really enjoyed this movie, cinematography was great and it has the classic over the top action Tarantino always offers.
American Hustle won only Best Comedy/Musical, Best Actress in Comedy/Musical and Best Supporting Actress in Comedy/Musical.
There's a scene when main female character is being kissed by supporting actress.
Conclusions are yours.
They say it went to amy Adams but what it really went to was her cleavage
Wolf deserved best comedy, urghhhhhh American Hustle was just a mess of a film.
Inside llewyn Davis is the only other nominee I''ve seen since they're not out in the UK yet (we'll neither's llewyn but I went to a prescreening) and that was definitely a better film and I can tell her and wolf of wall st are much better too.
The Great Gatsby 3D - 7/10
As stylized and over the top visually the movie is, they did a great job with the Blu-ray. And as far as the film itself goes I've never actually read the book, or have seen the older versions of the title, so I can't really compare it to anything, hence why I'm a bit more lenient towards giving it a better score than others would have.
Never been a huge Baz Luhrmann fan myself, I've always found his films to be well over the top, but I enjoyed this one.
English teachers around the world cringed at this movie.

The Great Gatsby for me was no more than 4/10.
The special effects were bad most of the time. The modern rap/techno music being mixed with classical jazz didn't work, and often overpowered both the dialogue and tone. I like the actors/actresses, but their characters could have been played by anyone. This was not the role for DiCaprio. This was not the role for the guy that was Spiderman.
Everything felt like it was going too fast. The part where Gatsby invited Daisy over for tea was literally the only slow, tense moment in the whole movie, and even that went by too fast.
This movie did not deserve any special recognition. The 1980 version, even though I didn't like it very much, was loads better.
Wolf deserved best comedy, urghhhhhh American Hustle was just a mess of a film.
Wolf was to vulgar to win, but I agree, I cannot recall when was the last time when I was laughing that lot on a comedy in a cinema.
Weird how i completely forgot about the OST of All is Lost, and just realized how beautiful the soundtrack is after hearing that Alex Ebert (the composer) won Golden Globe for it
The modern rap/techno music being mixed with classical jazz didn't work, and often overpowered both the dialogue and tone.
I never was clear if it was supposed to be music overlaying the scenes, or if the film took place in an alternate universe where Jay-Z was the most popular artist of 1925
These "parodies" or "homages" to older action trash movies are getting annoying and they are simply bad. Actually it never feels like a true homage or anything. Planet Terror is the only one which I really like and feels nicely executed.
yes I agree, in fact I said it was bad but I still enjoyed watching it because of how whacky it was. I don't see how my post is dumb... I just said that I personally had fun but still recognize it as being terrible.
Star Wars Episode 3
5/10
I'm a huge Star Wars fan but after rewatching this after a long while, I realized how bad it actually is. The scenes between Anakin and Padme are so cringeworthy and ridiculously cheesy.
I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.
i dont get why people don't take those sort of films at face value. They're not trying to be Citizen Kane, guys.
Just because they're not trying to be great doesn't mean you can't call it shit.
I mean, I used that defense for Sucker Punch (yeah, yeah, I already got the nails to crucify me with, Rusty) and even then I didn't really know why.
Bad Grandpa 4.5/10
a few funny scenes but far too many dumb and generally unamusing scenes. Could have been much better.
What were you expecting from a guy that does things like tape firecrackers to his asshole?

depends, from time to time you end up getting stuff like black dynamite

Yeah, most "It's supposed to be bad!" movies are just plain rotten.
I'm interested to see how Kung Fury turns out, though.
Black Dynamite nails the "meant to be bad" thing. It owns hard. But the greatest piece of deliberately shit is Garth Marenghi's Darkplace. Its a tv show and only ran for 6 episodes but it's amazing.

It's so fucking on point in absolutely every aspect. It goes far and beyond most of the time as well. It plays on shitty camera, editing, set design, acting, sound design, and writing basically fuckin everything, and it' framed around the idea that it's a lost show from the 70's and the cast and crew are in an interview setup talking about it and how it was an under-appreciated masterpiece and stuff
Good lord, what?
You're Next
A little gust of fresh air in the slasher genre. Nothing special, but still much better than the garbage horrors that come out these years. It tries to change the formula a little, without using many cliches and throwing in some humor. Nice movie.
Am I the only one who thinks Wolf of Wall Street is really overrated? I mean it was a pretty fun movie but that's about it, nothing really was exceptional about it imo. Definitely not my favorite Scorsese movie.
[editline]d[/editline]
it was also super unnecessarily long. there were so many scenes that could've been shortened/cut out

Yes
Last Vegas 7/10
Funny film and nice. Could have been better but it was a good watch.

Of course they could have shortened several scenes, so the film could fit in standard 2 hours 20 minutes. For example the scene with "cerebral palsy stage".
The better question is, why would they do this? Sure, having 20 minutes of Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill rolling on the floor being high was unnecessary, but it was simply hilarious as fuck. I respect that film for leaving many unimportant to further progress scenes, and I'm eager to watch 4 hours version.
Her - 9 / 10
Amazing cast, score/soundtrack, and plot. It tied everything up and had a resolve and was a gorgeous film cinematically.
I also related pretty deeply to it ( not the dating an OS bit ) so I think I got emotionally invested in it more than I usually would for a movie.
I've already seen it twice. The little traces of feminism ( the rude game character, Amy's [sp]ex boyfriend[/sp], etc) in the dialogue and presentation were nice as well, good to see some film stereotypes being broken.
The only reason it isn't a 10 is because I wanted to know a little bit more about [sp] what the ai decided to do when they "left" and how and stuff. there were minor details in a conversation but not enough, you know? [/sp]
See this movie.
yeah, once again spike jonze really nailed the human element
Fitzcarraldo was genius, just seen it yesterday.
depends, from time to time you end up getting stuff like black dynamite
I heard a lot of good stuff about Black Dynamite, might check it out sometime. I have completely forgotten it, I do own the soundtrack and it's really awesome.
yeah, once again spike jonze really the human element
he the whole human element. the entire thing.

Garth Marenghi's Darkplace is an amazing thing and everyone should watch it.
Adaptation: 4/5
great movie, with Nicolas Cage doing a good performance (for real)
Jason and the Argonauts: 3/5
A special effect masterpiece. seriously, fuck starwars
Stroszek:8/10
This film is definitely good; I'm starting to really apreciate Herzog's movies...I'd say that if you watched Clockwork Orange you'd prettymuch like Stroszek too,it's got a theme that can be related to it.

I've only seen Aguirre and Fitzcarraldo from Werner Herzog, but it seems like I'll have to check his films more often.
