somehow Agent Patrick Denham was my favourite character in the whole movie (next to Brad and Donnie)
but i guess that was on purpose? because really just like AK'z said I didnt root for Belfort at any point in the movie.
I'm going to go and watch 'Her' tomorrow. I've heard good things about it, anyone else seen it?

I'll have to watch it again, but I just lost the will to care about anything that happened to that character.
We can comment all day how funny it was, but really the film was trying to seriously round off what this bloke was about, and it couldn't be less awe-inspiring. Maybe it puts a light on the fact that fucks like that can get away with everything almost scot-free and still get rewards even after he's caught.
I've seen very little of Scorseses work but I noticed the same thing in The Departed. The first 30 minutes are horrendous because of the terrible editing. It was a struggle because it was so disorienting. Overall the film was quite good but it took a while to get past it. Is this a common thing in Scorsese films?
Not to my knowledge. Some films may have weaker editing than others but none were outright terrible imo.

Scorsese's recent films have a crapload of gaps cut out. Jump-cuts all over the place, it was never like that during his Raging Bull years.
I suppose stylistically it is kind of effective because it adds to the rush that he as a director seeks.

There are hiccups sometimes though.

Yeah it's not a bad SF.If it weren't for the cast, the budget for making this movie would have been cheap as hell. It's mostly about emotional talks and softcore porn though. So if you don't like movies wich are centred on dialogues it might be a bad choice to spend your money on it.
On the topic of editing and cuts, i think this really puts things in perspective:
I didn't hate anybody in Wolf of Wall Street on a personal level. Not like I did with Spring Breakers.
Why would you even be curious about Spring breakers? Can sense how bad it is from a mile away.
it was never like that during his Raging Bull years.
A shame really. Raging Bull is such a gem.
edit: then again, we got Goodfellas so I'd say it's a fair trade.
Although I do want to see him make some films drastically different in style to his most famous films such as Hugo or The King of Comedy.

if u think spring breakers is summer trash like project x u fell for the trick tbh
The Book Thief
Well this was supposed to be good and it turned out to be very average. Its a small town in wartime Germany and a girl is taken in by a family. The acting was wooden from much of the cast, the scenes were generic and the music was fucking shit. The sets must have been shot in eastern Euro as they were quite good.
I've had more fun masturbating.

Toy Story - 9/10
I'm honestly surprised how well this movie has held up since I last saw it at least 10 years ago (OH MY GOD I FEEL SO OLD NOW). It's still a good-looking, funny movie with great voice acting and great characters, on top of some moments that are still scary (such as[sp]when Buzz and Woody first enter Sid's room[/sp]). Also feels good to watch it with the original voices now.

I don't see myself watching it anytime soon.I have to prioritize. I've got the likes of 600 movies in the watchlist.
Some modern teenagers movie I'd like to try would be Perks of being a wallflower and Moonrise kingdom.
I doubt something could come as close to perfect in those matters as Los olvidados though.
I could also recommend those films, from what I've seen so far: Boy A, A bronx tale, Swimming with sharks, super 8,beasts of the southern wild, donnie darko, come and see,American history X,To kill a mocking bird,Zerkalo, the 400 blows, city of god,mr nobody, pather panchali,we need to talk about kevin.
There are more, but I think you get the ideea.
i stopped watching Spring Breakers after 20 or so minutes because I hated the girls so much
probably would have done the same for The Bling Ring but i watched that with friends
Riddick: Director's Cut - 7.5/10
As with the theatrical one, it's a solid, if not exceptional B-movie with good effects and set design. Fun for a couple hours but not particularly memorable. Best of the series still has to go to Pitch Black I'd say.
Also, with all this talk about the Oscars I realize just how many movies I've missed lately. I still have yet to see 'Her,' 'Wolf of Wall Street,' 'Captain Phillips,' '12 Years a Slave,' and probably half a dozen others. Really didn't get to the theater much this year.

funny guy
you should be a comedian
I don't feel one way or another about Harmony Korine.
Captain Phillips - 8/10
Pretty intense shit. Only thing was some parts felt a bit overdramatized, but still not too much.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
the special effects were horrendous.
That's an exaggeration. A few things looked a bit dodgy but on the whole they were fine.
Her 10/10
What a beautiful movie, took me on a bit of a rollercoaster ride of emotions
Prisoners
Denis Villeneuve does it yet again with a near perfect thriller. Directing a film like 'Incendes' must have been like climbing Everest and then looking for something higher and although this was a great film it didn't quite hit as hard as Incendes but thats due to many factors. The twists, moral crossroads and how everything pans out is a masterwork.
I'd like to know how this man picks his scripts, how he structures these stories and if they are close to the way the plays and books tell them.
I wonder what his next film Enemies will be like. Everybody is going to want to work with him but I just hope the mainstream wheels of glossy Hollywood don't ruin this genius.
I agree that it doesn't look as good as LotR but that doesn't make it bad.
It looked like molten gold to me.
looked like a pre-render of molten gold to me
It looked like someone rendering water physics in Blender 3D for 10 minutes then putting a gold overlay on it.
It looked like molten gold to me.
i understand defending the other effects, but i had never seen anyone say they thought the statue at the end looked fine
Okay I watched it again and it looks pretty shit.
I always thought the molten gold looked off, but I wasn't sure if it was supposed to look that way or not.
lone survivor - murica/10
I keep getting Harmony Korine and Harvey Korman mixed up
