Escape Plan, 6/10
Could have been really good for a blockbuster action film, but my god was it cheesy at times. It really put the mood off in a bad way.
It was so undecided. Sometimes it looked like it tried to be cheezy by purpose but even that was half assed, sometimes Schwarzeneggers acting was just downright awful, the villain was weird too, you either make a villain that's evil for no reason and let him be that or not but this one was sorta being stylish (in the beginning) and that didn't work out.
4/10 TOPS
I agree. I stopped after the second one. The third just seemed .. Out of place.
(this post contains spoilers for 10-20 year old movies, be advised)
I stopped watching the Terminator and Alien franchises after the second. In both cases, the first two are regarded as fantastic movies, the third is generally weaker but has some good bits, and the fourth is trash.
But really I'd rather not because the second movie is a fantastic ending and capstone, and the third one just completely invalidates it.
In T2, Judgement Day is averted (for now) and the hopeful theme is "no fate but what we make for ourselves". But then in Terminator 3 it turns out that Judgement Day is inevitable no matter what, so the ending of T2 goes down the drain.
Similarly in Aliens, Ripley comes to terms with her daughter's death and gains the courage to overcome the aliens. Plus Hicks is just an all-around cool guy and Bishop can probably be repaired. There are themes of bonding and coming together against insurmountable odds to survive. But then everybody but Ripley dies (well, I guess Hicks survives in Aliens: Colonial Marines but whatever) and all that gets tossed out again.
Ehh, I'd rather not. I like to imagine the characters with hopeful, open futures. I've always felt that the best way to end a saga is "...and they had many more adventures" rather than seeing everything that happened.

The part in the chopper when the nuke goes off, and its just one shot as it's crashing.
Yeah, that's the only good part of that movie.
Apart from the bad start, Alien 3 is really good. As for the previous two movies watching the directors cut makes a big difference.
the ending is pretty fuckin cheesy
but it makes sense at least.
They were just trying to kill the Alien series so it wouldn't get worse.
Then they made Alien: Resurrection.

Never mention that 'thing' again, never ever in this thread. If you do I will destroy you just as Joss Whedon destroyed the Alien franchise with that abominational....I've said too much just forget the whole thing. But for whoever mentions it and never seen it, DO NOT.

Terminator 2
10/10
A heartwarming tale of a robot who learns why humans cry

Johns constant voice cracking pissed me the fuck off though
The Man from Earth (2007)
For a low-budget, slow, talkative film with one set, the only words I can use to describe this amazing piece of food-for-thought are gripping and absolutely thought-provoking. Written by Jerome Bixby, one of the great writers of The Twilight Zone ("It's a Good Life") and Star Trek ("Mirror, Mirror") at the end of his life.
If you've ever sat down with friends and had a great conversation about life, or science, or history - then there is nothing more I can say than watch this.
Taken(2008); 8.5/10
Liam always did a on par job with how Matt Damon did with The Bourne trilogy. Though, after the first Taken, I'm told the second one was really 'eh' in comparison.
Total Recall 9/10
The whole reactor scene is hilarious. Ahnahld just mows down too many people to count
plus the glorious

I'm on an ahnahld movie roll, next up, Running Man, Red Heat, and Last Action Hero
Red Heat
That always seemed a little confusing to me. "Hey, let's cast Arnold Schwarzenegger as a heavily accented character!" "That makes sense, he's has a pretty thick Austrian accent." "What? Austrian? No, no, no - in this movie he'll be a Russian!"

thats exactly why I want to watch it

Hunger Games Catching Fire 9/10
When the movie ended I thought there was still more to go. They did a great job with this movie.

Live and Let Die
3/5
Not much to say on this one. The first half was pretty boring, but it did pick up.

that one was pretty drab... I didn't like the Golden Gun, but Spy who Loved Me was good.
Golden Gun was bad cheesy, Christopher Lee made a good villain though. Spy Who Loved Me was also cheesy, but good cheesy and actually enjoyable
The Wolf Of Wallstreet- 7/10
Definitely not as good as I was expecting, but still decent. Don't get how people say it's the best of the year at all though... The film is so over the top that it becomes numbing and I doubt that it was intended. I literally spent the whole time thinking "ok hes doing this dumb thing now". I didnt give a shit about anything that was happening because he's an asshole and a bad person and there's very little to him aside that he's got charisma and a massive drug problem. The film wasn't boring necessarily but it wasn't exciting. The whole film felt totally empty. It was also way too long. Strong performance by Dicaprio, not an Oscar winning performance but he was still great. I was also not convinced by Scorsese's directorial efforts. It was (this is definitely a trend with Scorsese. I've seen enough to back that up now) horribly edited. His shots just don't line up and don't cut together well. Lots of continuity errors with the characters, jump cuts, hasty editing and not in a stylistic sense. The camerawork as well was dodgy a lot of the time. It felt like David O. Russell doing American Hustle- trying to rip off Scorsese. It didn't feel like Scorsese, it felt like someone trying to be Scorsese.
A reasonably enjoyable film where nothing really happens but it makes it out like so much is happening. Held together by strong performances and uh not a whole lot more. Its ok. Ridiculously overhyped, it's definitely the weakest Scorsese film I've seen.
Also Matthew McConaughey deserved far more screen time.
For me, it's one of Scorsese's weakest efforts. Haven't seen Gangs or Cape Fear but he has much more accomplished films in his catalogue.

weird how he's been around for years yet only gets his best roles when he's older
Not seen a whole lot of his stuff (Taxi Driver, The Departed, Shutter Island, Cape Fear and now WOWS) and of them WOWS is the weakest. Still not seen Goodfellas or Raging Bull...
Still not seen Goodfellas or Raging Bull...
le what, those are his most definitive :)

Last Temptation, Mean Streets, King of Comedy, Casino.. even his debut film was more intriguing than Wolf. Loved Aviator too.

It most definitely was.

The movie is just supposed to be a fun ride and a look into what this person's life was like. Just because he isn't a saint doesn't mean you should disregard him.
The film wasn't boring necessarily but it wasn't exciting. The whole film felt totally empty. It was also way too long.
Wrong on all fronts.

I thought it was totally fine. Nothing stood out to me as bad at all.
I didn't think it was perfect either but the issues you brought up are pretty wrong imo.
tbh, for that kind of film you expect a more personal character story.
It was much more a take on the industry itself than any true insight into the belfort character.
It was much more a take on the industry itself than any true insight into the belfort character.
Not at all. Belfort even straight up says "it doesnt matter, you arent even listening to this" when he starts explaining some wall street info.
i was trying to listen :(
Yeah well tough shit time for drugs.
Still not seen Goodfellas or Raging Bull...
So that's why you think WOWS feels like a Scorcese ripoff. You haven't seen the film it most emulates.
There's so many shots directly copied from Goodfellas it's ridiculous..
