I wouldn't call it copying if you made the thing in question.
I wouldn't call it copying if you made the thing in question.
it's the copy and pasted moments without any new/intriguing aura over the shot.
e.g. [sp]moving shot with greetings to the camera[/sp] is an iconic shot that wasn't anywhere near as good in wolf.
some dude could just make a list of the Goodfellas oriented shots in Wolf and they would each be inferior to the original.
They are two different movies. Why even compare them?
They are two different movies. Why even compare them?
they're asking to be compared, surely you can see this..
may as well have started out as "[sp]as long as i can remember i always wanted to be a stock broker[/sp]"
also Brad in the film acts a LOT like Robert De Niro. Check scene [sp]briefcase[/sp], I could only see De Niro being mimicked, reminded me of that Jackie Brown scene where similar character conflict occurs.

Jonah Hill seems like a cool guy.
Blue Jasmine- 7.5/10
Woody Allen's latest effort, and a strong one. Definitely more of a drama than a comedy, I found the film to draw very heavily from Tennessee Williams' play A Streetcar Named Desire (Also the 1951 film- one of my all time favourite movies) which helped me understand intricacies of the characters (mainly Jasmine; I even wrote Blanche instead by accident :v:). Cate Blanchett even played Blanche in a recent theatre run of the play. The relation is not by accident, I'm sure. The stories are identical. The characters are slightly different, and it plays out in a slightly different way, but the narrative beats are all there. [sp]Fragile southern Belle has messed up in her town, in hard times, (Both times her lover committed suicide, which she is partly responsible for and this guilts her. Not to say its her fault tho cos that's unfair as hell) has to leave and go to her poor sister and her brute husband. She is shocked at how she lives. She doesn't get along with the husband. She finds a suitor, who she thinks can take care of her and provide for her. They are set to marry, but then her past catches up with her and her lies exposed. The man realises he can't be with her because of her past and how she is willing to lie so much. It ends with her unhappy and lost with nowhere to go. Her sister wants her gone. Her awful pride means she leaves on her own accord, but in reality she has nowhere to go[/sp] I feel overall some things were executed better in Streetcar and the subtleties were better though. There was more depth to it.
I think it's easy to hate Jasmine, though, as it was with Blanche. However really she's a tragic character and I feel sorry for her. She is unstable and clearly unwell, she lost everything and has taken a major step down in class, and is struggling to cope and readjust and looking for a way to find her way back up the social ladder. I feel it's likely she suffered from psychosis, her delusions of grandeur and obvious lying to herself say a lot, not to mention her pride.
I think the real stellar thing here is Cate Blanchett's performance, it's probably the best of her career. Hope she gets the Oscar, she's well above Sandra Bullock in Gravity and Amy Adams in American Hustle. Didn't see Philomena or Osage: August County but the trailer to Osage looked like an advert for Meryl Streep to get an Oscar...
Sally Hawkins was excellent and I'm glad she got a nomination, I think it should go to Lupita N'yongo but just so long as JLaw doesn't get it I'll be happy (she didn't even deserve a nomination)
Good movie, worth a watch, although a bit melodramatic. Also Louis CK is in it and great.
Filth 9,5/10
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1450321/?ref_=nv_sr_1
I just watched the first 30 seconds of this movie to try and see what it was about, Looked like a fun movie with it's own style without being all too serious.
Wel fuck me I was blown away, The movie just starts of like many funny movies but before you know it you've been strapped in for a ride in the coaster. I won't say much because it will just spoil it.
Anyone else seen it? What'd you think?

I don't know why this doesn't get more praise, it's really really damn good and McAvoy is just such a good actor.
Escape Plan 6/10
It's ok.... nothing much to add. Stallone and Schwarzenegger didn't really have good chemistry in this, their characters weren't very interesting. Some cool prison escape stuff and some funny scenes made the movie especially Arnolds "you hit like a vegetarian"
Well
What did you expect
Its Ahnald and Sly
I'm on an ahnahld movie roll, next up, Running Man, Red Heat, and Last Action Hero
Running Man is great, I couldn't stop laughing after this one-liner

Dracula (Christopher Lee version) - 9.5/10
Great movie, I love the performances from Cushing, Lee and Gough. A very great classic I suggest watching along with the Lugosi version
The Last Stand 4/10
[t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/f2/Last_Stand_2013.jpg[/t]
Disappointingly, but perhaps not surprisingly, this film was pretty bad.
The biggest issue with The Last Stand is that it is sorely lacking any sort of focus. From top to bottom, the film struggles - bloated with too many undeveloped characters and overdeveloped subplots, managing to feel slow and ponderous while only 100 minutes long, drama that's not touching and comedy that's not funny... it goes on and on.
For a movie ostensibly about Arnold's big comeback - it had been ten years since Terminator 3 - the big guy is sorely underused. For the first half the focus is more on a frustrated (and frankly boring) Forest Whitaker, and it's not until around halfway through that Arnold really steps up; heck, we don't really see Schwarzenegger in action until the big action finale. He does a pretty good job.
Speaking of which, that finale is pretty much the only good action scene. The villain is set up to be hyper-competent and therefore pretty much every confrontation with the law ends up in his forces steamrolling theirs. There's not really any tension - rather than building him up as a credible threat, the bad guys just seem like ridiculous caricatures. This is another area where the film fails to delineate between a modern realistic and campy action tone. Some scenes of car-fu or gun battles are entertaining, but overall it's a very mixed bag.
I could go on (Who was Peter Stormare's character supposed to be? Why was the dialogue so perfunctory? Digital blood spurts look terrible. Also the cinematography was weak) but it's getting late.
The Last Stand fortunately wasn't Schwarzenegger's last film, but there's a long way to go to reach the previous heights of his career.
The Last Stand, AKA Johnny Knoxville's 5 Minutes of Screentime That Lets the Marketing Team Put Him on Every Poster Next To Arnold
Um, hi. I'm not so great at doing 'out-of-ten' ratings, so I just wanna make a quick list of my favorite movies from 2013, in order. If that's okay.

Alrighty. That's about it, but I might've forgotten some. I'm mostly posting this because I go out to the movies quite often, and I'm not sure why I don't post here more often, besides the reason stated above.
Red Heat
10/10 for arnold speaking russian
(seriously though I'd say 7.5/10)
The Wolf of Wall Street
4/5
Really was eager to check this movie out and honestly I thought it was brilliant, Leonardo Dicaprio plays his role excellently along with Jonah Hill even though his role is pretty common in movies (sleezy etc.)
The movie goes from really funny to really depressing and does that transition well, but I'd like some more about the FBI guys, I thought that was something not touched upon, but easily recommendable

I thought filth was pretty shitty tbh. It reminded me of a terry gilliam movie at times and that's a bad thing in my book. It was thoroughly average and predictable and not as clever as it thought it was.

Wolf of Wall Street on the other hand owned so many bones. if you seriously think that movie was boring then we have nothing in common
The Running Man
8.5/10
I really enjoyed it, plus who doesn't like seeing ahnahld in a skintight bright yellow suit?
Next up is Last Action Hero

I'm baffled. The plot revolves around mass hysteria, an occurance all too often nowadays, with the advent of media/tv/net. It's also interesting to see because of the danish culture involved; I'm curious if they all invite you to eat IRL like they do in the film.

as someone who thinks Terry Gilliam is pretty shitty (how fuckin awful is Brazil) I loved Filth. One of my favourites of the year.
Sorcerers Stone 6/10
Chamber of Secrets 5/10
Prisoner of Azkaban 7/10
Was planning on plowing through at least the first 5 yesterday but forgot they were all each longer than Empire. I've never read past the fifth book, because it was the most boring shit ever. I was on page 120 and Harry had like JUST gotten to hogwarts and I was like "fuck this shit, I'm 12" so I dumped it.
So that's around the point where I stopped watching the movies, too. Fifth movie came out, I watched it for a bit, then went on to do other shit. But now it's time to finish it all. I'll probably do one a day from here on until I'm done.
the series peaked at Prisoner of Azkaban
Yeah but then I hear the phrase "Dumbledore's Wizard Army" and I can't help myself
I GOTTA KNOW
It wasn't even Dumbledore's army, it was a bunch of horny teenagers that wanted a secret room to practice their magic spells on each other.

Secret Life of Walter Mitty
This is one of those films that should have been a great, original film with those quirky edges and a deep meaning. We got all of that except the 'great' part, instead its just good. The music is excellent as is the scenery from some of the most stunning parts of our planet. If nothing else it does make you think about your life and how fulfilling it is.
Reminded me of the brilliant 'Big Fish'.
Fruitvale Station - 9/10
Very sweet movie but very tragic ending.
Drew: The Man Behind the Poster - 8/10
[t]http://content6.flixster.com/movie/11/17/25/11172584_800.jpg[/t]
Heartfelt and magical, Drew Struzan's brilliant movie posters are just as powerful and memorable as the films they portray. This documentary shines some light into the life and times - and, of course, the art - of master painter Drew Struzan. Through interviews with collaborators - actors, directors, business partners, family - we really get to see the scope and impact of his work.
As an artistic fellow, this really spoke to me as I saw the man's skill and abilities demonstrated over such a wide range of themes, moods, and designs. Hearing the impact his artwork had - Guillermo del Toro and Michael J. Fox talk about how they went from fans to collaborators, awestruck the whole way - and how collaborative and friendly the soft-spoken artist was really inspired me.
I had a few minor issues with it. Though we do see hundreds of posters, most of them are not identified; some famous ones are obvious, but all the lesser-known ones I glimpsed had no title or other information at all. The interviews are of varying quality; most seem to be shot specifically for this, but Harrison Ford is obviously (and awkwardly) filmed in a press interview setup, diminishing the effects of some shots and his meeting with Struzan. I would also have liked to see an interview with John Carpenter, as it is a bit awkward to have Frank Darabont discussing the posters for The Thing and Big Trouble in Little China. The final piece, about Struzan's appearance at Comic-Con, came across as a bit awkward and overly congratulatory, rather than truly illustrating his wide appeal and fandom.
Highly recommended if you love the magic and artistry of movies - and their posters!
Also I watched this on Netflix and now all the Photoshopped movie posters look bland.
Fruitvale Station - 9/10

Kind of gave the ending away there don't you think?
