Kind of gave the ending away there don't you think?
They give away the ending right at the start of the movie by showing some real-life footage, so you pretty much know what's coming.
Fruitvale Station - 9/10 Very sweet movie but [sp]very tragic ending[/sp].
I live across from Fruitvale Station and I can't tell you how much it affected me, after seeing that movie.
The World's End 8/10 It's weird to see this movie have such serious scenes when compared to its predecessors. Sure, they were there but not something on the level of[sp]the protagonist having slit his wrists[/sp]. Especially Gary's speech[sp]about how life after high school wasn't at all like what he thought and was promised it would be[/sp]felt a little uncomfortable because I went through a similar train of thought. Overall I really liked this movie. It's radically different in tone from the previous two and, in my opinion, it's executed quite well.
They give away the ending right at the start of the movie by showing some real-life footage, so you pretty much know what's coming.
Ah I see, thanks for the clarification. My apologies to our right honourable comrade.
as someone who thinks Terry Gilliam is pretty shitty (how fuckin awful is Brazil) I loved Filth. One of my favourites of the year.
how can you even....
Brazil was just constant cringe and I couldnt make it through to the end (granted i guess i should before i pass judgement but i was like an hour in and it was fucking horrendously bad so i turned it off because I had seen enough) [editline]25th January 2014[/editline] its like a bad version of chaplin meets 1984 and its goddamn retarded
brazil is great :) [editline]25th January 2014[/editline]
its like a bad version of chaplin meets 1984
Good analogy. Except it's a good film!
can anyone tell me how to just turn my brain off and enjoy the movie. because i watched movie 43 with my friends and i thought it was stupid and there were no jokes and it was just a bunch of crude things happening and they told me i should just turn my brain off and enjoy the movie one time i tried to just pretend the movie was funny so i tried to laugh but it came out sounding really weird and everyone just kinda looked at me anyway i give it a 6/10 because even though i didn't like it, my friends did and they said i was just being a pretentious asshole so you don't have to listen to me
Never force yourself to like a film that's dumb. I remember when my friend said Daredevil was a good movie and I said it sucked and why, then he disregarded my opinion because I study film :| :| :|
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Although I'm extremely biased against The Hunger Games series, Catching Fire was way better than the first movie. I don't really like any of the characters or actors or plot but that's just my opinion. I did feel like there was too much CGI and the whole film felt pretty fake. Also Jennifer Lawrence, eugh. I cannot be the only person who thinks she's an incredibly overrated actress. She might be a cool person off the screen (and I think she is, from her interviews) but it seems like people who watch her movies, and I'll ask them why they liked it, and they'll just respond with some shit like "dude! its got Jennifer Lawrence in it!!! Shes so hot!!". Also blatant sequel-bait ending but that was obviously intended since they're gonna milk this shit harder than Pirates of the Caribbean. Overall, Better-than-the-first-movie/10
so I was playing Chessmaster: Grandmaster Edition, trying to worm my way back into playing Chess... I was crazy about it as a kid and then unexpectedly got a movie recommendation out of it. Searching for Bobby Fischer Yep yup yep... it's one of them films that bust into your life at the right time and do some good damage to your way of thinking. This thing hit me like a rock, I never really took Chess all that seriously, but after getting to know the dude's methods in the game, going into this really hits home. You've got some SERIOUSLY good actors here homie, Ben Kingsley, Larry Fishbourne, Will H. Macy and other less known yet honourable ones, the kid actors are natural and well picked. As a kid, it felt good to annihilate older players and beat loads of people in leagues n shit... then this Chinese dude comes up, everyone told me he was a genius; I lost but didn't really get bothered by it since he seemed a lot more in tune with the game than me at the time. tbh he didn't really thrash me, I played him down to the rook and king and it almost worked out in my favour. Anyway, that's about 11 years ago, after that I never really got the feel to play Chess for real again until recently. Now this movie has come into my life, it's starting to make sense to me more and hopefully it gets me playing again. This is a film, filled with philosophy about the game and how it can penetrate your decision making and how you feel. It's the only game I know which can actually stir you up such a great amount on the inside. The film shows the great game and how different ways of learning it, can in the end move you forward and mess with you at the same time. Larry Fishbourne's character is just so good, and so is Ben Kingsley. The two Chess mentors, each had their own influence on the kid, with the ultimate factor being the father to bring that in. I gotta say... these fellas are just great people, some may think the Kingsley is way too hard on and the Fishbourne is a fun yet hamfisted here, but with the dynamics from having both influences move the kid forward is just great to see. Watching this with my nephew only dug in that feeling a bit more, it's not about teaching kids like a hammer, it's about showing them different approaches to life and its challenges. Chess is life, mate. Check it.
Elysium - 8/10 Nice movie. Good settings and really nice cgi. Not the deepest story but a fun action flick nonetheless. Gotta love watching [sp]the bad guy get blown up not once, but twice.[/sp]
The Lone Survivor Definitely a good movie. I don't know much SOP of the military but the movie felt very authentic to me. One thing it did very well imo, was communicating pain. So much pain. I was cringing in my seat from imagining the pain they went through being shot multiple times, falling off cliffs and rolling around rocks and hitting trees. It was definitely worth the $10 ticket price imo. The movie was a lot better than recent modern war movies (Hurt Locker, Act of Valor)
how can you even....
Brazil IS super terrible [editline]26th January 2014[/editline]
can anyone tell me how to just turn my brain off and enjoy the movie.
this is such a circle jerky post because you know we aren't going to tell you to do this
this is such a circle jerky post because you know we aren't going to tell you to do this
i don't even know what "circle jerky" means.
Just watched Captain Phillips. Can there please be more movies with Tom Hanks in them? Like holy shit even the ending in this was a bit emotional for me. He played the role perfectly!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Hanks_filmography
Have only 7 more films to go then. Thought this was the only one I left out. Thanks for that!
Tom Hanks is a pretty meh actor.
Tom Hanks is a pretty meh actor.
I disagree. Seeing the ending of Captain Phillips really showed how much he's developed as an actor. Especially the scene where [sp]he was on the medical bed being treated, he pulled that emotion and feeling of shock so perfectly[/sp]
I've yet to see that so maybe it'll change my mind.
Tom Hanks is supreme. If you weren't appealed by Forrest Gump (?), then surely Captain Phil will do the trick. [editline]26th January 2014[/editline]
i don't even know what "circle jerky" means.
jerk chicken that is a circle ?
Captain Phillips 5/5 What a film. God, what a film indeed. [editline]26th January 2014[/editline] I'm not ashamed to admit it, the last 10 minutes nearly made me cry.
The Man from Earth (2007) For a low-budget, slow, talkative film with one set, the only words I can use to describe this amazing piece of food-for-thought are gripping and absolutely thought-provoking. Written by Jerome Bixby, one of the great writers of The Twilight Zone ("It's a Good Life") and Star Trek ("Mirror, Mirror") at the end of his life. If you've ever sat down with friends and had a great conversation about life, or science, or history - then there is nothing more I can say than watch this.
Wow I just watched it, I agree 10/10, really awesome movie.
I watched Akira. I really can't rate cause I cant make a opinion, my opinion is divided to if its a good movie or bad movie. The setting is great, some of the characters are greatly developed. But then again the story is meh and well I just don't know how to see the movie premise from a perspective. I didn't see anything spectacular (like everyone anime fan says) or terrible about it.
12 Years a Slave - 10/10 That brief scene with the [sp]Indians[/sp] was pretty funny and surprising. All around amazing movie, definitely my favorite movie of the year next to Lone Survivor. This really deserves Best Picture, fucking way more than Wolf of Wall Street.

American Psycho - 8/10 Pretty darn good psychological thriller. Bale is great, and I really like how the duplicitous nature of the characters and setting is explored through dialogue, visuals, and more.
Tom Hanks is a pretty meh actor.
Not gonna lie, you're probably one of the only people I've ever seen who has that opinion. Between Forrest Gump, Cast Away, Apollo 13, Saving Private Ryan, The Green Mile, Road to Perdition, The Terminal...hell, even Toy Story, I'd say he's one of our finest working actors. I have yet to see Captain Phillips or Cloud Atlas so I won't comment on those, but I've heard he's spectacular in the former. What I like about him personally is that his characters all feel very grounded and real. Even if he's just playing the everyman, he plays it damn well.
