Also, which Saw movie should I stop at? Is it 3, or? Cause I know after a bit they started to become.. Rather dull.
Stop at 3 or 4. That's where the Jigsaw arc ends. [editline]8th February 2014[/editline] Also, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (2006) Yeah, I know, it's older, but I saw it the other night, and I have to say that it was one of the best anime films I've watched. Animation was amazing, and it had very touching moments, although the ending was VERY vague, although it was probably left open to interpretation. 9.5/10
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas Well, that was quite a trip.
Watched two films tonight, both horror. Lords of Salem: 7/10. This film tried to be intelligent with a good story and have an in-your-face attitude kind of scary, but it ended up being a giant mess. However, this is a Rob Zombie film, so for me it's probably best that way. It's tons of fun and a visual feast, but I wouldn't reccomend it if you want something actually scary. Blue Velvet: 9/10. I had to take a cold shower after this and it'll probably haunt my dreams tonight as well. That should sum it up.
watched bernie, and thought it was pretty good. the acting was great, and that combined with the movie's more down-to-earth approach made it really immersive and believable. i'd definitely recommend it, especially to jack black fans since it's nice seeing him do something different for once.
Django unchained - ? Tbh despite having heard endless praises about this movie, I don't feel like I love it as other people. Probably because of the settings. Old America sure was fucked up. Also I didn't expect Django to be a black man. Does that make me a racist?
Saw the LEGO Movie. It was legit. 10/10, maybe. On second watch it might not be, but I certainly enjoyed it a lot.
Pulp Fiction 11/10 I thought it was gritty, funny, smart, hard boiled, and great. [sp]Favorite seen was when Bruce Willis was in the pawn shop, selecting an ideal weapon. Then he goes on to kill those faggot rapists. Sweet and fucking awesome justice. Worst scene was when Bruce Willis killed John Travolta. Sure, Travolta was a hitman, but was only doing his job and not a bad character. He death was so quick and unceremonius, it left me feeling empty. I wish they had a scene showing Travolta waking up in the bathroom and revealing that he was wearing body armor.[/sp] If you want to watch another film similar to Pulp Fiction, try Sin City. Like Pulp Fiction, Sin City is also a hard boiled crime drama 'anthology' which too features Bruce Willis.
Also, which Saw movie should I stop at? Is it 3, or? Cause I know after a bit they started to become.. Rather dull.
I personally would stop at 2 or maybe the first. During the third was the moment I gave up on the series. Not because of how it ends, I just could bring myself to care at all. It was so dull.
Also, which Saw movie should I stop at? Is it 3, or? Cause I know after a bit they started to become.. Rather dull.
1, 2, 3 and 6 are the only halfway decent ones.
Dr Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb I tend to like all the movies I watch, and maybe it was because I watched Team America just before it (90 minutes of puppetry jokes gets old fast), but I'm not sure I've seen a better comedy movie. Ten minutes in I was thinking how awesome it was and didn't stop thinking it. One of my friends next to me fell asleep for 20 minutes. [editline]oh dear I seem to be trapped in the edit line, please deposit $500 000 dollars in the Royal Bank of Canada account 4935 499907798 credited to gerbe1[/editline] 10/10
True Romance Great movie, it was cute, funny, romantic, disturbing, depressing and sad all at the same time. You pretty much can't say it was a bad movie. Patricia Arquette was hot as shit and pulled off her role perfectly imo. Also Gary Oldman was Drexyl? Wtf. Are there any other roles with him being a bad guy other than this and Leon? Also Brad Pitt just cracked me up. The only thing that felt a bit off was Walken as a Sicilian mobster, he just couldn't pull it off as well as someone else probably could.
[sp] Worst scene was when Bruce Willis killed John Travolta. Sure, Travolta was a hitman, but was only doing his job and not a bad character. He death was so quick and unceremonius, it left me feeling empty. I wish they had a scene showing Travolta waking up in the bathroom and revealing that he was wearing body armor.[/sp]
I disagree. [sp]The story was about Butch, and to Butch, he came home and found a guy in his bathroom and killed him before the opposite happened. There's no reason for Butch to attach any importance to Vincent, he was just a nameless hitman, and so it was quick and unceremonious because that's how his death actually was. We're left feeling empty because this is a character that we've grown to know but he's had his time now, and the story's moved on to something else.[/sp]
Also Butch's story is the best part of the film and if [sp]Vincent killed Butch[/sp] the film would be not as good at all. also yea [sp]there was no need for a gunfight or some shit even if Butch did survive it cos to him it wasn't a big event with build up etc, literally he went home to get his watch and there was a dude in his shitter so he shot him. he didn't know who he was. That scene is great as is[/sp] Even Tarantino knows when to tone it down and not have violence porn. Only if it works for the story. In this case, it wouldn't have worked.
vincent vega is the worst gangster of all time
but the best john travolta of all time
irl vincent vega would die before he got to dance ;)
every time Vincent leaves to use the restroom something goes terribly wrong while he's away
12 years a slave - what a great film. there are 2 scenes which i think are unforgettable: the first one is when [sp]solomon is tied up to that tree for a few hours, while everyone goes on with their lives. that sight of kids going out to play in the background..[/sp] that was tough. the second one is the conversion between brad pitt and epps. [sp] it just feels good to see someone talking rationally all of a sudden[/sp]
her 9.5/10 wow. just, shit. what a ride. feeling v emotional right now
Gertie the Dinosaur - 4/5 Considering that it's 100 years old this is a darn good animation. Over 20 years before the first full-length animated feature - Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937 - this was the first animation to feature a character with a personality, and it's fascinating to see how a silent cartoon with mostly one character can still be so entertaining. Sure, there are some repeated animations, loops, and other time-filling things but the amount of detail and varying motions is astounding. Gertie really does feel lifelike and the animation is surprisingly in-depth. It must have been amazing to see McCay performing "with" Gertie back in the day. Zodiac - 10/10 goddamn what a good movie, being a fan of David Fincher I can't believe I never saw this. just so great in every way that basement scene was creepy as shit
Zodiac - 10/10 goddamn what a good movie, being a fan of David Fincher I can't believe I never saw this. just so great in every way that basement scene was creepy as shit
"Are you sure there's no one else upstairs?" I didn't know it was a Fincher film until I first saw it, which then blew my mind. It still amazes me every time I watch Zodiac that they never caught the guy. There was just so much to that whole investigation.
Doctor Zhivago I've wanted to see this film for a long time, it's extremely long and at times progresses slowly, but I loved it. The film has a good story along with gorgeous locations, it's a very unique movie and deserves looking into, just bare in mind it's over three and a half hours long, which I didn't mind one bit.
Being John Malkovich 9/10 Oh man.
Lego Movie This is probably the most creative movie I've ever seen/10 It's also pretty hilarious [sp]He's the hero you deserve[/sp]
Our RoboCop Remake The only good Verhoeven remake. The idea behind the whole project is just brilliant. A lot of the scenes have really great production value behind them, and those scenes are amazing. The best scenes are absolutely hilarious. However, there are some scenes that are not so great. Anybody who is a fan of the original film will have a great time watching this. Rewind This! This was a nice little documentary. It talks about the beginning of home video, the short competition between VHS and Beta, the rise and fall of the video rental store, the current decline of physical media, and a hopeful resurgence of VHS and other media formats. The people that were interviewed were all decent people, I never felt like I didn't like any of them. This movie kinda puts into words why I love VHS. There just isn't anything else like it. It ran such a long period of time and so much was released on VHS that it's like an archaeological dig, you never know what you'll get when you go deep into the VHS library. The documentary was shot well, but I thought it could have used a better way to transition into a new topic rather than just start talking about said new topic. Overall it's a nice little film, and you should watch it if you appreciate VHS, old media formats, or just movies in general.
The Lego Movie - 9.5/10 Fantastic.
The Lego Movie 10/10 holy shit, that movie was fucking great.
The Village (2004) - 5/10. I didn't remember how awkward the screenplay was or how [sp]stupid the twist is[/sp]. God it sucks because I actually kind of like the film. I feel real bad since it's a grim reminder that M Night Shyamalan will never be as good as he once was.
This Is The End, 8.5/10 I really enjoyed it even though it got a bit repetitive, despite that, the change of pace in the latter half was extremely entertaining. Plus, the ending was amazing.
