Yet he hates on movies that he himself hasn't even seen. Case in point: Flags of Our Fathers, Django Unchained.
A fair point but at the same time it doesn't mean you should judge his films based on his personality or what he said... Perhaps a bit extreme but the same idea- lots of people love Woody Allen and Roman Polanski yet they are both statutory rapists (allegedly in Allen's case). I mean the only reason Polanski isn't in prison right now is that he's a French citizen who seeked out protection from the USA. He can't go to America or he'll be arrested. But is anyone gonna say Chinatown, Rosemary's Baby etc are bad films cos he raped a 12 year old? No. He's a disgusting person but a great artist. [editline]3rd March 2014[/editline]
By that logic everyone in this thread has to make a better movie before we can rate the last movie we watched
"I'd like to see you do better" is a straight up ad hominem cos you ran out of logical arguments so you attack the other dude personally and basically its an admittance of defeat so yea u win sir whoopsalot :~)
Her Holt shit, that movie was astonishing. I loved it, it was one of the best films from 2013 I watched. I love Spike Jonze and the way he writes his films - they are fine when you watch them, but when you pause them you realize how weird they are, and you love that. This film had amazing, thought-provoking story, absolutely fantastic Joaquin Phoenix (it's a crime he wasn't nominated, I mean, this guy handled this film by essentially talking to himself, it's amazing) and Scarlett Johansson, and that soundtrack, god damn it. And colors in this film, wow. I can see it become a classic, really. Phenomenal.
Come on man. Spike Lee is fantastic. Ignore the Tarantino circlejerk-spike Lee hate, the dude is a brilliant filmmaker. Do The Right Thing is often ranked as one of the single best films of the 80's (Ebert ranking it at number 4). 25th Hour is often considered one of the finest of the 21st century. Malcolm X was very well recieved, ranking as one of Denzel Washington's best films and was selected for preservation in the national film registry (as was Do The Right Thing), Inside Man is a fantastic and stylish crime thriller that manages to be original in a very saturated genre. His documentary 4 Little Girls got nominated for Best Documentary at the oscars... He's very talented but has this weird circlejerk of hatred towards him by people who I'm sure haven't even seen any of his movies. It's ridiculous.
I'm on the "hate spike lee" bandwagon because of that fiasco with the oldboy posters.
"let's see you do better" wow is that really the angle you're going with here
well that usually is the angle presented when approached with those words my point is, quit bitching about the writing when you (not you directly diet kane) aren't even a hollywood writer.
well that usually is the angle presented when approached with those words my point is, quit bitching about the writing when you (not you directly diet kane) aren't even a hollywood writer.
This is a bad mindframe to have. What's the point of critiquing anything, in that case? I may not write for hollywood, but I have a few award winning plays under my belt and I gotta say the bits I've seen of superman weren't the best.
well that usually is the angle presented when approached with those words my point is, quit bitching about the writing when you (not you directly diet kane) aren't even a hollywood writer.
If you've ever criticized anything, you're being a hypocrite. You don't have to be able to do something to be able to critique it.
I'm on the "hate spike lee" bandwagon because of that fiasco with the oldboy posters.
maybe u should witness the rest of his career then also the Oldboy posters were really cool imo I never saw the film tho but at the same time that technically makes me more reliable since im still judging off the posters not the actual film :~) )
maybe u should witness the rest of his career then also the Oldboy posters were really cool imo I never saw the film tho but at the same time that technically makes me more reliable since im still judging off the posters not the actual film :~) )
Well I mean I've seen Do The Right Thing and Malcom X and I think one more. But the incident I'm referencing is when the poster designer for old boy was told "hey sorry but we're not gonna pay you for these" and then they still used his posters without consent. When the designer reached out to Spike (whether it was for assistance, or just a "hey heads up, your people did this" I forget) he responded with "I have no idea who you are, tough shit" and that put a bad taste in my mouth. I'm not saying he's a bad film maker by any stretch, But I have no desire to see any Spike Lee films any time soon
spike lee sucks

Not as much blood as I thought there was going to be, to be honest. Fucking fantastic film, though.

Inside Man was pretty good

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me 8/10 Fuck that was depressing. One thing that stuck up to me the most was that I could tell Lynch had a great passion for the Twin Peaks world or more specifically, the character of Laura Palmer he initially thought up with Mark Frost. IMO the show never really got into how terribly fucked up Laura was and how she lived other than explained facts and some flashbacks. So I'm guessing Lynch really wanted to explore and show Laura on screen rather than making a movie about the world of Twin Peaks and its characters in general. It's easily understandable why a big fan of the show could dislike this movie. Like I've said before, this movie is far more focused on Laura than anything else. You don't get to feel the unique world of Twin Peaks and its characters but instead, you're shown the background stuff that was brushed upon in the original series. So if you're expecting 'Twin Peaks: The Movie' then you're going to be disappointed. However if you're open to the idea of Lynch exploring more about his favorite(?) TP character, Laura, and the tragedy of her life[sp]and death[/sp] then I'm sure this movie will seem better. Still, it's a depressingly bleak film with a surprise bitter-sweet ending about a poor girl who's ravaged by guilt, shame, loneliness, fear, desperation, confusion and who's also a victim of [sp]drug abuse and incest.[/sp] I don't see how anyone can't sympathise with her character after seeing this movie even if she isn't some perfect homecoming queen/best loving student. I think that's why I have to give this movie credit. Yeah Laura isn't perfect, she's not the nicest person in the world and she didn't make all the right decisions but damn it, the movie made me more emotional about her in spite of her faults and wounds. It's classic 'make a story revolve around the person that's not perfect or even, 'good', a character with actual gaping flaws' and it's done great. Some problems I had with the movie were imo things that were transported from the Twin Peaks show. Agent Cooper, was, alright but he's still nowhere near that perfect blend of kookiness and professional seriousness that season 1 Dale Cooper had. He's just kinda there and he's there because he was the main character of the show. Donner's new actress was...alright too but there wasn't too much material for her acting to really shine through. She's just there too because she was important in the show. Bobby was done fine I guess and anyone is barely in it. They just come and go. The Lodge scenes were technically well done but I think it lacked the very-slightly comedic bizarre theme it had in the first season or the very hellish maddening feel it had in the second season finale. It didn't really offer much else other than 'this place is weird'. But despite that, I definitely think it's a film worth watching.
Elysium - 7/10 I wouldn't say Elysium is a very subtle film with it's commentary on health care but it's rather enjoyable none the less. The story has weak points but not enough to detract too much from the film itself which was visually rather pleasant. But seriously [sp]no one cared about Jodie Foster's and her terrible accent's coup they just wanted healthcare.[/sp] I honestly can't think of much else to say because it wasn't a very complex film IMO.
Elysium gets a 3/10 because of horrible camera shaking, and a plot so cliche it made my eyes roll into the back of my head.
I thought the villains sucked, except that fokin prawns guy and the other military guys. The character Jodie Foster plays and her buddy made me think of a character from a Swedish children comic that I used to read. Krösus Sork, a very evil capitalist that only likes money and hates children.
That scene with the dog was downright hilarious

which bliblical movie will prevail: I'm more eager to see Exodus tbh.
boblical
correct it, thanks.
"bliblical" now goddamn ak'z yea Noah looks awful but hopefully the Moses one is good. Ridley Scott is a bit hit and miss though. He's one of those dudes, where if he did less work (as in only his best) he'd be considered one of the greats but he does a lot of average stuff too. Works with a lot of bad scripts. His direction is generally very good to great.
But Scott's track record for historical epics has been pretty good so far. Kingdom of Heaven is perhaps one of his best films and depending on how they're tackling the book of Exodus, I can imagine it being stellar.
