I'm to emotionally attached to my childhood movies. Even if they are crap, I still like watching them. Like the other day I watched Spy Kids 3 and still liked it. I saw that in "3D" back in the day.
i saw that in theaters and even recognized it was horse shit
it did have decent 3d though, and real eyepopping 3d not this new bullshit.
just watched Non-Stop
the movie was great, i thought it would be like a terrible cliche but it was great and suspensefull though leaving the movie all i could think of was what the crap does it take to kill liam neilson, he was blown up, bashed with an oxygen tank in the head, shot, stabbed, rammed into the roof...twice, beaten up by 5 guys, beaten up by an airmarshal in the bathroom, strangled with a seatbelt, and finally almost blown up by eurofighters
So my girlfriend decided to watch some of her favourite movies with me:
The Prince of Egypt:
8.8/10
The best Disney film Disney never made. I was really impressed with the music and visual design, and unlike a Disney film it wasn't marred by comic-relief characters and one-note villains.
[sp]God is kind of a dick in this though.[/sp]
Dunno if this is a joke or not, but DreamWorks made the Prince of Egypt.
Edit: Shush

300: Rise of an Empire
9/10
There's a lot of hate on this movie in this thread but I personally loved it. The "poorly done" blood everyone has mentioned isn't poorly done, it's just exaggerated and stylized, similar to the previous movie. (Although unlike the previous installment the blood is actually a brilliant red instead of black)
I think it added a lot to the movie.
The visual flair of the blood and the vibrant blue Athenian's capes contrasted with the black uniforms of the Persians, along with the seriously excellent choreography in the fights and some really satisfying kills made the combat in this movie a complete delight, and there is a lot of it! In an age of ~shaky screen so real~ and terribly paced fight scenes, the full frontal gratuity and quality of the combat in 300: Rise of an Empire is a real treat and something that any fan of big fantasy battles should check out.
The plot was as good as to be expected in a movie like this. The actual story it's telling is gripping and exciting, but some of the scenes manage to detract from the sense of weight and urgency of the coming Persian onslaught. As previously mentioned, this movie is not a sequel or a prequel, it starts at the same time as 300 and ends maybe a few days after the events of 300 come to a close. There are some backstory flashbacks which provide explanation for Xerxes hatred of the Greeks and his "godhood" and some other background of other characters. I was disappointed to find that the main bulk of the story took place side to side with 300, showing the defense of a bay by the Athenians from an onslaught of Persian war ships. I was hoping for a conclusion to the 300 story but all I got was a different view of the events. The ending set up for a sequel, which I personally am happy for as I find these movies thrilling.
Overall, despite the plot leaving something to be desired, I give 300: Rise of an Empiree a 9/10. The attraction of the movie is it's badass and incredibly well done combat, not it's plot. The plot serves as context for the carnage, and it does it just fine.
If you were a fan of 300, I highly recommend 300: Rise of an Empire.
When the first thing everybody feels the need to talk about are the blood effects your movie is not good.
Also people who use the words "satisfying kill" are kinda weird.

9/10 for "badass combat" are you serious?
Next you tell me you liked Sucker Punch

Because that's about the same target audience and in that case I would feel a little bit exploited if I were you
300 Rise of an Empire
Outstanding companion to the original rock and roll war film. The first one was excellent and this provides more of the same. Eva Green was excellent, her tits were excellent and the gore was stylised perfectly. The main character, Themisecles was not as strong as Leonidas but thats ok, he's a Greek and not a Spartan so thats obviously why. Anyone moaning about the lack of blah blah blah didn't get what this was, its a modern rock and roll version of partially made up history with tons of the red stuff.
I am Jewdozer and I am right and I loved it. The 3d wasn't really anything special.
Shadows above review is very good and covered everything I felt like saying aside from what I said.

300 was poop.
The Great Beauty
This was a fav at the film fests and I was very excited to get my hands on it.
Jep is an aging socialite in Rome who writes for a mag and hangs around in arty circles. He can make or break a house party or an exhibition and people look to him. His world is changing a little and he starts to look through the hollow side of this pointless life and begins to see the beauty around him.
This really felt like a tourism film for Rome and although his character was very strong, the true star of the picture was the city itself. It certainly helps if you've been to Rome and fortunately for me I've spent a lot of time there so the places he visits were familiar. The obvious comparissons to Fellini and co have been made and thats a fair point but whatever you might feel like saying about the film, its a wonderful experience and reminds you of what greatness we are capable of. The way this thing is shot around the central character makes the time watching it fly by so fast, I loved this film.
The Dark Knight - 8/10
It's a great movie (even if it does overshadow Begins a little too much in my opinion) but the more I look at it, the more annoying issues pop up. Like the entire business surrounding[sp]Lau. Bruce Wayne's alibi goes up in smoke yet nobody questions it, Lau disappears the same day he met with someone from Wayne Enterprises who flew all the way out to HK just to blow off a deal and for some weird reason and nobody questions that either, Gordon and Dent just assume Batman can get Lau even though they don't have any real reason to think so. They can't help him because the official policy is to arrest him so they just assume he can do it on his own even though they have no idea who he is?[/sp]
There's also one particular dialogue with Joker about how he's not a planner which makes no sense because that's exactly what he's been doing all goddamn movie.
Couple of minor issues, like Bruce Wayne leaving the Joker with a room full of people and no protection, the voice being even sillier this time around, the opening sequence almost entirely depending on people being stupid and Batman[sp]spontaneously being able to take a bullet even though Fox said his new armor wouldn't be able to[/sp]. But again, like Begins, the flaws are not bad enough to make the movie bad or even hard to enjoy. You're more likely to notice them after seeing it and even then, they're more annoyances than anything worth getting pissed over.

i predict 30 more alts this week alone
It's terribly disheartening to rewatch movies you loved as a kid and realize that the comic relief characters you loved are now super-annoying.
This sums up my feelings about Jar Jar Binks. I was in elementary school when Episode I came out, and I thought he was hilarious. Now when I see him... hell, when I see that movie in general, I just cringe and wonder just what the fuck was wrong with elementary-school-aged-me.

Yes sorry about that Edward, I've been away backpacking for a few weeks. I should be back up to full contributor again now. It's good to be back.

Watched Gravity again on Blu-ray 3D and it was well done through the TV. The visuals were just amazing to watch, but the story the 2nd time around was not as good as watching it the first time. Overall, this movie is a technical masterpiece, but the story is a bit samey.
9/10

Are you talking about the scene where the Joker's telling Harvey that he doesn't plan, he's just like "a dog chasing cars"? The Joker's lying - manipulating Dent by telling him what he thinks will make him crack.

I think the internet is slowly starting to turn on TDK (as happens with any movie that everyone really liked) but I agree with you about how its flaws aren't enough to make it a bad movie.
[sp]also you probably don't need to use spoiler tags on a six-year-old movie that everyone's seen[/sp]
Killing Bono
better than I expected it to be, although the fictional additions to the real life events made it all seem a little fake. still okay though

Not turning on it. Just lowering the circlejerk. (because come on. Even now it's pretty ridiculous and I still see loads of people saying it's the greatest movie ever made or at least the best film of the 2000's etc and yes it's subjective but I can't help but smh at these claims. It also sits on fuckin 9.0 on imdb, I think it ranks at #3 (not as bad as shawshank at #1 though... It's not even the best film of 1994 never mind of all time)
I saw The Wind Rises a few days ago, Miyazaki's supposed final film, a fictionalization of the life of Jiro Horikoshi. Ultimately it's a film about the corruption of creativity, as Jiro's dream of planes feeds destruction.
At once it's laid-back and threaded with dark shades. In some ways it's a bit slice-of-life. Japan has always tip-toed around their war-crimes, so don't expect the protagonist to express much sympathy for the destruction of the enemy. This caused my father to dislike Jiro in addition to the summation of the wife subplot. I think those elements were more the result of cultural differences (workaholic tendencies, the aforementioned tip-toeing, not confronting authority).
It's a slow burn, but overall I enjoyed the film.
Nebraska - 9/10
simple and excellent

The Wolverine (2013 movie)
It was an alright action flick until the last 30 minutes or so, where the quality plummeted pretty badly. 2/5.

I've already taken 2 spoiler tag related bans, I'd like to avoid any more.
Casino 9.2/10
Reviewed this some months back here but I wanted to see if it stood up now that I've seen Goodfellas and yes it certainly does. I do think it is quite underrated personally.
