I was joking. [sp]but i do think it's an okay show[/sp]
How? I honestly can't think of any redeeming features for that show. It's the unfunniest thing on television.
Just watched The Good, The Bad and the Ugly again, great film, best western ever made, the finale is just so intense and the soundtrack was brilliant 9.5/10
Django Unchained 9/10 Loved it. And it was interesting to see Tarantino directing a movie that isn't set in our times.
I didn't really consider Inglorious Basterds to be set in our times, either way both great films
How? I honestly can't think of any redeeming features for that show. It's the unfunniest thing on television.
Because I have the ability to enjoy things regardless of what people say about them. I mean I don't think it's hilarious; shows like Sunny, Archer, Spaced etc are vastly superior. I just think it's okay.
Gattaca Wasn't what I was expecting but a very beautiful film nonetheless. Clearly had to be carried by good acting and it was.
airplane 4/5 top secret 3/5 young frankenstein 4.5/5
We Own The Night - 7/10. Very peculiar film. It's not your typical cop film that examines the line between cop and criminal. It actually portrays law enforcement in a very positive light and the criminals in a very negative light. It felt like an old 40s or 50s serial in that way. The plot/writing itself is absolutely nothing to write home about, but with Mark Wahlberg, Joaquin Phoenix, and Robert Duvall starring it didn't really need it. Eva Mendes could've had more lines methinks, just kinda thrown to the wayside after shit gets going. You're Welcome America - 9/10. A stage play about the life of George Bush starring and written by Will Ferrel? Jesus I thought it was gonna be fucking horrible. Boy was I surprised, I loved it. Dazed and Confused - 8/10. Not much to say, a coming of age film set in '76. Was good.
Taxi driver (1976) Not sure why I've never watched this. It about a man who has a few issues and starts to mentally unravel. De Niro leads and watching him made me think of Ryan Gosling's style of acting, very understated, very little dialog and all rather moody. The thing is De Niro did it first. The presentation is rather gritty like Scorcese's other early film Mean streets. Some interesting shots and angles with the camera reveal a master in the making. Theres a good support but overall I thought the film was somewhat over rated. Sure theres nothing wrong with it but nothing blew me away. Glad I've seen it.
does taxi driver get better in 1080p, that's the question ;)
gonna watch a couple will films: Pursuit of Happyness & Seven Pounds. Will these be the Will performances I'm looking for? Who knows...
Just watched The Good, The Bad and the Ugly again, great film, best western ever made, the finale is just so intense and the soundtrack was brilliant 9.5/10
idk, i think once upon a time in the west might beat tgtbatu
idk, i think once upon a time in the west might beat tgtbatu
i personally prefer a fist full of dollars to TGTBATU but maybe that's me being weird i just watched 28 days later for the 5th time and goddamn, definitely my favourite horror film. 7/10
Ides of march (2010) In 1462 Vlad the impaler murdered 20,000 of his own people by pushing a wooden stakes throught them and standing them up so the bodies looked like a forest of corpses. The reason? To stay in power as he knew that if the invading Turks got to the capital, he was finished. The plan worked because as soon as the Sultan saw the bodies, he decided such a man could not be defeated. Modern politics is similar in the sense that our masters will lie, take bribes (lobbying) make back room deals and sell war crimes as a way of preserving our freedom (their power). This film is a story of a political election campaign and the degrees of corruption the movers and shakers will sink to in order to keep climbing up the greasy pole. Ryan Gosling is brilliant as always and Clooney, who also directs, is perfectly cast as the white smile governor who tickles the ears of the public to get into power. This is one of the best political thrillers I've seen and I recommend this film for its performances and its subject matter.
Se7en 8.5/10 The plot and acting was great. But I think a lot of it was really predictable, and the end was too heavily foreshadowed. I also would have rather seen Mills just [sp]beat the shit out of John instead of just shooting him, and not let him win[/sp] but that's just my personal view on it.
Queen of Versailles(2012) One of the richest men in America decides to build the largest house modelled on Versailles and some other big buildings. Only problem is he's into the timeshare business and we all know how the world economy went. This is a fly on the wall docu similar to the shit on TV execpt the changing economic landscape half way through completely chages the dynamic and makes it interesting. His wife is the typical trophy wife, living excessively and desperately trying to halt the aging process. The docu is a little drawn out and could have been an hour but is an interesting addition to some of the other docu films about the economic bubble but what sets this one apart is the human element. A good watch.
finished Pursuit of Happyness .. more like pursuit through pain and despair.. Will's pain here, feels like my pain. It's a film that finds you and holds you by desperation. This being said I have a few criticisms on the right off. There was no time to fully fledge the briefness of the happiness before the events in the film. You will notice this, it barely does a flashback that is required to lay down the groundwork and moves straight to the kill with fast moving force. It's rarely light, I barely knew how Wills held himself together within this film. It was more than what I expected, the sole reason here is the father/son connection. I have this with my nephew, and it's good to see reality in how kids can hold their own through tough times in a natural way. Not astounding, but good enough. The key to this film, like many others imo.. are the eyes. There's just a pain coming through them that I can't comprehend, that's not acting, that's Will Smith, that's his son; he's going to experience this man's story through the connection with his son. That's the beauty of the film. The gripes I have won't suffice enough for me to downgrade it because it's not nice in this case, but I will say that when things are going to lift, keep it lifting mate.

well i agree with electronic and kind of prefer fistful out of the three (i own them all anyway). all are fantastic films anyway and definitely anyone who wants to watch westerns must see them.
Cloverfield I'm going to be honest, this film left a bitter taste in my mouth. I've seen it recommended and talked about elsewhere so I thought I'd give it a shot. It just felt short and crappy to me. It also gave me horrific motion sickness. I understand that it was on purpose but I really hate it when films do the whole amateur, "people using a handheld video camera first person thing". It becomes ridiculously shaky and I have to strain my neck trying to turn it just to figure out what the hell is going on. Of course for the sake of ~realism~ and ~immersion~ they'll have those random shots where the camera is down on the ground stationary while something is clearly happening outside of the shot. The story just felt atrocious to me as well as the acting. The movie felt way too short and literally didn't answer a single question. When it was over I'm just sitting there asking myself, "what the christ did I just watch". To sum up the movie in my mind, [sp]Guy going to Japan has a monster attack during his going-away party which kills people including his brother; he goes to rescue his sort-of girlfriend and then his best friend dies and then they die, making the entire movie completely pointless.[/sp] As a film/tv-buff who greatly enjoys masterfully created pieces (Mainly Sci-Fi) with details like those found in Lost, Fringe, Battlestar Galactica, Blade Runner, and a few others, I was greatly disappointed in the shallowness of this film. For me, it didn't even really achieve any good suspense or fear. The only time where the movie had you anywhere close to edge of the seat was in the subway with the little spiderlings crawling in the dark, and that was a cheap jump scare. The only redeeming qualities I can really credit the movie for was the special effects, which must have required hard work implementing them into the shaky cam. If you totally think I'm wrong, please explain why or just rate me dumb but that's my two cents. [SUB][SUB][SUB][SUB] JJ Abrams, I'm disappointed in you for once[/SUB][/SUB][/SUB][/SUB]
i too was left with a bitter taste in my mouth after watching cloverfield cus the shakycam made me continuously vomit

[SUB][SUB][SUB][SUB] JJ Abrams, I'm disappointed in you for once[/SUB][/SUB][/SUB][/SUB]
Well I don't remember it leaving a bitter taste in my mouth but I do remember it being 'meh'. It just didn't do anything for me and I didn't understand some of the overwhelming praise for it (e.g. spill.com when I still listened to them). It was just a giant sea monster attacking the city and shit happens then end. I guess the point of the film was to simulate a 'real' experience if an actual giant sea monster attacked which I guess, did its job but as a movie, I thought it was too shallow. I never felt really scared throughout the movie but just a burning desire to understand what the shit was going on. For the sake of the tone of the movie, 'Cloverfield' sacrificed the chance to really go into some cool shit with the cloverfield monster and stuff. Maybe it would've worked better if the movie was made up of different perspectives that were spliced together in a documentary sort of way. I dunno but as I said, the movie just felt a bit shallow for me and I have no desire to watch the full movie again. Still I remember getting a kick out of the viral marketing they did and 'researching' the background of the monster and the company the main character was working for.
oh yeah the arg was completely off the fucking wall, which only served to further highlight how boring the actual product was
Iron Man 3 : 8/10 Not as good as Iron Man 1, but better than 2. Excellent movie nonetheless, though the final showdown was a bit of a mess.
Cloverfield definitely wasn't a rollercoaster ride... Dr Jones' Doom film was more exhilirating than that tbh.
it has nothing to do with what other people say about the show and everything to do with your own ability to critically recieve something and not just passively consume and accept terrible things which you yourself alone should realise is terrible fuck sake
Sucks for me then I guess because I don't think it's terrible.
I must admit, I really enjoyed Cloverfield. It was sort of Blair witch meets godzilla. At the same time I get the crit against it.
I must admit, I really enjoyed Cloverfield. It was sort of Blair witch meets godzilla. At the same time I get the crit against it.
I have to admit, despite my thoughts about the movie, I wouldn't mind a sequel at all. I would like to really get absorbed into the world of Cloverfield and try to delve more into why that giant monster attacked America, the connection between the japanese Slusho! company the main character was working for and the monster and[sp]the 'satellite' that falls into the ocean you see at the end of the movie.[/sp] That was the interesting part for me, not much the characters/'normal people' or their reactions to a giant monster attacking a city because in the end it just comes down to "holy shit a giant monster is attacking lets get the fuck outta here!" Still it was pretty immersive I guess. Which is why I kinda miss movies like these. Monster movies these days are just setting stuff up for kaiju action and/or are fueled by monster icons in popular culture rather than the actual mystery/horror behind them. Of course, I don't mind monster action movies (Pacific Rim looks great) but I really want a movie that features a monster and focuses on this investigation in trying to understand what it is, where it came from and the connection between the monster and the world around us while keeping the intensity of the monster's horror at a steady/appropriate rate.
Butterfly Effect I liked the idea and concept behind this movie but it had a bad execution, also Ashton Kutcher was really miscast in this movie. But it seems like the movie cannot decide what it wants to be.
Furious 6 good/10 Iron Man 3 cool/10 Gatsby (2013) fine/10
Psycho (1960) Such a great masterpiece, really suspensful and intense. I loved the dialogues in this movie. Anthony Perkins does a great job with his character. Also the end was quite a twist to me, I also liked how the psychiatrist explains everything, which is a nice touch. Really genius movie. Also it was the first black and white movie that I really watched.
I had the worst fucking hangover today so I rewatched Semi Pro as I suffered in bed. One of my favorite Will Ferrel comedies. 7/10
