dallas buyers club 6/10 gave it an extra point because of Matthew McConaughey. average movie besides. don't know why leto won an award for his performance too. overall, a waste of time, only watched it because someone recommended it.
I saw Memento not too long ago, I thought it was fantastic
Oh I definitely really like Memento, it's a very well put together movie. I'm just saying that the rest of Nolan's films (mainly the ones from his original scripts, the Batman films don't really go into it) have tried to emulate what he did in Memento to not all that much success (I still think Inception is a fine movie, though).
Dr Strangelove or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying and Love The Bomb. 10/10. I am absolutely impressed by it, the black comedy was pulled off brilliantly and it was just a fantastic, thought provoking piece.
in before rusty telling you you're wrong
The Grand Budapest Hotel - 8/10 Very nice flick. I can't even put my finger on what exactly I enjoyed about it, it just had a way of really sucking you into this world. Oh and the humour was awesome.
Are you serious?
have you even seen it? its well made for what it is and is fun to watch. it's not taxing or deep, nor is it supposed to be. but there are thousands more action movies that fail abysmally and this one doesn't. apart from a few plot nonsensicalities, it's solid. again, like, 6/10 solid, but that's a lot better than what a Need for Speed movie should be.

Additionally I don't feel like watching mindless action, there's enough mindless stupidity already so why bother investing money and time into something like this? It only tells Hollywood to make more cashgrabs. [editline]17th March 2014[/editline] Also I saw "The Messenger" 8/10 Great acting by the main character and Woody, sometimes it's a bit too obvious in what it wants to promote but it had a certain down-to-earth feel to it. Shaky cam also feels kinda overdone sometimes, the film could have done with purely static shots, that would've emphasized it more IMO. It sparkles in the subtle scenes where the feelig is conveyed without getting cheezy and a a big plus for making the love interest an everyday woman, not some hollywood actress bombshell, I really liked that. I'd say it's a Must-Watch
so how about go see it and realise it doesn't try to take you for an idiot and just delivers what it promises? also, the screenplay was noticeably good for the kind of movie it is. not so much the overall plot but just the interactions. it's just a bit of fun that doesn't pretend to be something it's not, and i can really appreciate that.
I'm simply not ready to give a movie bonus points for knowing that it's a mindless yet supposedly solidy done(bad special effects, dialogue I've seen/heard yet is really dumb) cashgrab. Not pretending to be anything better is simply not enough. That's standard, it shouldn't even have to be mentioned.
Lol you don't even notice the special effects being bad unless freeze frame it like that. Plus that whole scene was pretty cool.

I mean, they all have some similarities: the protagonist with shady past, failed love, and playing with human memory/subconscious. Seeing as it comes from one director I don't really see a problem, in a few years I think Memento, Prestige and Inception will be known as Nolan Trilogy of Mind, or something like that (think Bergman's Trilogy of Faith, where three films share similar concept, not a story).

im sure there is lots of CGI. I know the stunts are real but like they'd definitely be at the very least touching up explosions and stuff assuming they actually blew up cars (did they? thats p cool if so)
12 Years A Slave (10/10) This movie is a life changer. It didn't tell me anything about slavery that I didn't already know, but it showed it in a way never before seen. t never refrains from showing viewers the immense torture, pain and humiliation of slaves, the lawlessness of the American South, and the horrible truth of slavery. Watching this movie really felt like I was a slave, and its all based on a true story. The best about this movie is that it really makes you sympathize with the protagonist. Solomon gets beaten, whipped, and tortured for no reasons, and you feel hopelessness for him, but you also feel hatred against his attackers. At many times I wished Solomon would just pick up a whip and murder everyone, because that is what I felt like doing. My only complaints about this movie is that it doesn't feel like 12 years passed, and Brad Pitt's character, who is essentially a deus-ex machina that feels very out of place.
Brad Pitts character wasn't a deus ex machina. The film was apparently very accurate to the book. It occasionally trimmed things, never made stuff up. (eg in the book Brad Pitt's character takes months to do what he says he will do, however in the films it doesn't feel like it. The film had major pacing issues and I'd say it's probably to do with trimming stuff down)

Yes, it's good to avoid schlocky cash grabs. Yes, it's okay to not want to see a movie. But fuck you if you think that just because a film isn't criterion collection worthy that it's not worth the time of day. 300 part 2? That's some shit you can probably avoid. Torque? Probably not worth a blu-ray release. But shit like Skyfall or Planet of the Apes that are action movies that aren't pandering to the lowest common denominator deserve some attention, and it sounds like NFS fits into that camp. Don't get me wrong, I'm in your boat, I don't want to throw away my time and money to see a film I know is gonna be awful, but you need to fuckin' stop being so up your own ass and appreciate a movie for what it is.
We also have to awknowledge a difference between popcorn movies and "films". There is a difference, and they both serve different purposes. I'll watch Dr. Strangelove or something if I want to think, and something like 300 if I wamt to tune out and just chill to something badass for an hour and a half.
We also have to awknowledge a difference between popcorn movies and "films".
what you say here should make sense.. but it doesn't. >there are srs films and not so srs films. What can surprise me is a less serious film having a profound effect, is rare though.
That is completely true. I was making a generalization more than anything. In the end they're all movies, but they each serve a different purpose is what my point is.
you do realise there isn't lick of CGI in the entire movie
Are you telling me that this is not CGI? Ok then. Fair point. It's still a bad special effect. Which would be ok. Lots of movies have bad special effects. But they also have something else. This movie doesn't have an interesting plot, it doesn't have interesting dialogue. What is left?
im sure there is lots of CGI. Apparently they used shells of cars for the crashes. That's the car from the screenshot, I don't know how much of the fire is fake but they were definitely launching the cars around atleast.
I agree with your examples, I just don't agree with you about that NfS movie belonging in that category.
But you haven't even watched it, so you legit can not pass that judgement
But you haven't even watched it, so you legit can not pass that judgement
That doesn't tackly my points though. Edited something up there. You can see how they desperately tried to make this somehow lighthearted but the main actor guy whatshisface totally blows this. It's got the deepness of a chick-flick but without the heartstirring effect of romcoms.
lol if u care about saying "movies" or "films" get ur head checked it doesnt matter
Need For Speed actually kinda surprised me. I expected it to be bad, but.. it wasn't that bad? There were alot of weird plot moments but the action for the most part is much more engaging than others of its type. Can't judge a film by the trailer these days.
We also have to awknowledge a difference between popcorn movies and "films"
Im fuckin puking [editline]17th March 2014[/editline] Didn't know I was browsing /r/movies
The Wolf Of Wallstreet 9/10 it's good, go see it lots of titties.
The Wolf Of Wallstreet 9/10 it's good, go see it lots of titties.
am i the only one who felt like they've seen the movie before as they were watching it? really nothing special about this movie. fuck it, maybe i don't like movies based on on "true stories" or inspired. hollywood just romanticizes the fuck out of them.
Why can't we talk about tv shows? I want to talk about how bad Helix is.
