I watched 21 Jump St and Maniac yesterday. Letterboxd seems to be down... (i keep a film diary on that site) but I'm pushing having seen 50 films in 2014
Taken - 2.5/5
Taken - 2.5/5
I'd give that score to the second Taken. The first was pretty decent I'd give it a 3 or a 3.5.
Star trek: Nemesis - 5/10 absolutely NOTHING happens in this movie, i already forgot 3/4th's of it
So I really am the only one who liked Nemesis? That's sad to know...
Hobo with a Shotgun. 11 shotgun shells out of 10. I mean seriously, that movie

We're 82 days into 2014, 50 films seems easy enough to do.
I wasn't bragging or anything?? I don't tthink it's that much either it's just a couple films a week. He asked how often I watched films so I said
Jeez I thought I liked movies and I haven't watched any more than 30 I'm sure. Is The Social Network good? It has ok reviews iirc but I hear a lot of people talk about it like it's quality film making but I always thought it'd be kinda dumb considering the premise seems a bit boring

5 films a week 10 weeks easily done
I saw "300: Rise of an Empire" yesterday. The story was utter garbage (it was okay if you remind yourself its completely fictionalized), the plot was lacking, but the action left little to be desired. Some scenes were just flat out weird, but it was solid on the main content it offered (namely ripped guys in blue cloaks killing everything and ramming wooden boats into each other). Overall, it was an enjoyable experience. Thoughtless, but enjoyable. Also, seeing the Athenians in war paint was pretty badass. 7/10
Anchorman 2 I liked this better than the first. The jokes are funnier, more original and less juvinile. The first movie was ridiculously dumb, this one's tone is a little smarter. It's also a bit on the long side, should have been cut 20 mins or so and it would have been much better. 6.8/10
American Hustle - 8/10. Everything was pretty damn great until the last five minutes where the climax/ending was hella rushed and you get the shitty "narration over ending scenes and then the credits role". Fucking Frost/Nixon did it right, they had Frost and Nixon [sp]have one last conversation about the shoes that Nixon noticed in the first inerview and then we're left with a lonely shot of Nixon against the sunset over the water leaving us feeling as uneasy about his future (since we all know what happened) as he is.[/sp] There wasn't any of that shit here (American Hustle)it was just "hey here's what happened after all the shit and that's all folks!" Dings it down 2 points easily.
The Wolf of Wall Street (rewatch) I think I had to refrain myself from giving an honest opinion/review about the movie when I first saw it because frankly I loved it from beginning to end. Not to say that I now think it's a shit movie or anything but I needed time to think and watch it again. After the second watch I think it's fair to say that it's not particularly Scorsese's most boldest/original work, particularly so if you compare it to his other creations. Like everybody said, it's extremely reminiscent of Goodfellas. The editing, tone, pacing and presentation are emulated in the style of Goodfellas but now it has more swearing, sex and comedy. Other than that, the editing seems a bit more noticeably, sloppier this time around? It's not terrible but it wasn't perfect either. Leo gives a good performance and so did everyone but none of their characters were particularly memorable. They made me sympathise with them and think about how they 'function' sure however I didn't get inside their heads enough and I didn't feel they made the same impact on me as much as other Scorsese's "characters" (I did for some reason, felt really interested in the FBI agent despite his minimal presence). Maybe the characters in Wolf of Wall Street were instead used to give depth to the setting, tone and morals, I dunno. However, at the end of the day, I still think it's a great movie. It's funny, it's smart and best of all, for about three hours, I lived the life of Jordan Belfort, a smarmy greedy ass who loves money, sex, drugs and alcohol and can't think of anything else that's better. That's the best stuff about Scorsese's films for me. I get to connect and see through the eyes of people I would normally detest or not relate to. A fucking weirdo taxi driver, an utter prick who only knows how to get angry and punch the shit out of people, a deranged nutjob who's obsessed with a comedian and being famous, a criminal who has childish romantic views of violence and gangsters, Jesus Christ, an orphan and a forgotten artist and finally a money grubbing ass whose name is Jordan Belfort. 8.5/10
Jeez I thought I liked movies and I haven't watched any more than 30 I'm sure. Is The Social Network good? Go watch it, you might like it.
5 films a week 10 weeks easily done
I read a critic did 9 films in 2 days and reviewed them all. Not EZ
Die Hard 2 4/5 I watched it last night and forgot to post. Pretty good, but not as good as the first or third one, but mostly because this one felt less believable in most circumstances.
I liked Die Hard 2 the most. Planes going down like that have happened before and here it was just horrible. Some may think it's less comedic than the first two, possibly cheesier but as a thriller I think it's dynamite.
Pierrot le Fou"- 8/10 what a great film. I loved Belmondo, as always. Godard is great.
Some may think it's less comedic than the first two
I didn't know there were two Die Hard movies before Die Hard 2 :v:
I didn't know there were two Die Hard movies before Die Hard 2 :v:
first and third arhghgh
I personally disliked 2 the most. The First and Third are both on equal territory imo. Samuel L Jackson makes the third. [editline]24th March 2014[/editline]
Anchorman 2 I liked this better than the first. The jokes are funnier, more original and less juvinile. And you obviously missed the last 20 minutes when it comes to ridiculously dumb.
Die Hard 2 was unbelievable, mostly because of the black guy with a high-pitch lisp. [editline]24th March 2014[/editline] Anchorman 1 and 2 both end with borderline-retarded crap.
Godzilla: Final Wars It was pretty bad. Too much shitty human action and not enough shitty monster action.
Heat- 9.5/10. Still has almost my favorite ending of any movie.
Heat- 9.5/10. Still has almost my favorite ending of any movie.
thats wrong though because the best ending to a movie is final destination 5
Final Destination 5 was a pretty good movie [editline]24th March 2014[/editline] best in the franchise
Final Destination 5 was a pretty good movie [editline]24th March 2014[/editline] best in the franchise
Especially since the at best meh FD4. FD5 just did everything right. The opening disaster was amazing, the characters were a little better, Tony Todd was back, it had a great ending.
