Tangled I liked it a lot, it had more of a comedic slant and a faster pace than is usual for a Disney film which kept it feeling fresh, even though the premise and the plot was very typical Disney. Unfortunately the ending of the film did fall into a lot of those typical Disney tropes and I don't think they played with the fact that Flynn was an unusually genre savvy roughish type protagonist rather than the typical Prince Charming type enough. Wreck-it Ralph Rewatching this now with the context of Tangled and Frozen around it has made like it a little bit less. It's still a nice film, and the painstaking detail they went to creating the world of the arcade and filling it with a multitude of references to the history of video games is very nice, it's just lacking that certain Disney vibe that made me really like Tangled and love Frozen. I still love the character of Sergeant Calhoun though, she's basically everything Samus Aran should have been in Other M.
superbad actually puts some effort in the jokes, unlike almost every college american pie rip off and other similar movies.
there needs to be some sort of rating between agree and disagree superbad, at the time of its release, was hilarious. over the years you stop caring, because you realize that seth rogen has only one writing style, and that is penis jokes.

The first 1/4th of the movie is chock full of cool video game crap, and then we get stuck in Candy Land.

Aren't games cool guys?" Also the Candy King was a fun character, I wouldn't mind if Alan Tudyk ends up voicing the villain in every Disney film from now on.
I first watched superbad at around 20, and I still thought it was funny and had a little originality to it. The characters are good too.
Watched a few movies on Netflix tonight. The Road - 7/10 So yeah, it can't quite live up to the same substance as the book (that would be damn near impossible.) Still, it was pretty good. It did a great job of capturing the same bleak, brownish environment and the two lead actors were convincing (plus Robert Duvall). I'm glad I read the book though, the ending was good, but it didn't have the same impact as in the book since they really only touched upon the underlying theme throughout. Donnie Brasco - 8/10 Solid all around, I liked it a lot. Apparently the real Joe Pistone said Johnny Depp was spot on with his portrayal.
LOTR trilogy, ignoring the blatant and annoying disparity with the source material are some decent movies.
so very debatable
so very debatable
said no one ever, except rusty
there is definitely a lotr movies hate club, it's not just me
You can find a hate club for anything.
the difference being people in the lotr hate club are actually smart
That's quite a big generalisation wouldn't you say?
the difference being people in the lotr hate club are actually smart
a one-man hate club isn't really much of a club
a one-man hate club isn't really much of a club
Rusty is right about the 'hate club' part though. I mean, he isn't the only one that dislikes/hates LOTR or Peter Jackson in general. [editline]27th March 2014[/editline] It's just that he likes voicing his opinion on Jackson/LOTR in this thread.
There are lots of legit reasons to fault the lotr trilogy. They're definitely not perfect. They do kinda have a circlejerk around them tbf
Snowpiercer - 9/10 Really awesome and one of the better sci-fi movies i've seen in the past few years.

I have a very long list of legitimate and hard to argue with reasons as to why it's terrible. All of which just get overlooked because 'omg <3 fantasy!!'

Besides, it'd be good to reference to for inevitable future lotr/peter jackson arguments.
Rusty Jackson's Lord of the Opinions: The Fellowship of the LotR Hate Club
this conversation happens every few months or so the fact of the matter is they're the most epic fantasy films ever made so there's always gonna be a huge circle jerk around them, at least until someone else comes along and makes a fantasy film with a budget and scope as big. i personally don't think they're anything special but i wouldn't go as far to say that i hate them. they'll always have a certain nostalgia cause i watched them when i was a kid.

Anyway Jonestown: The Life and Death of People's Temple: 9/10 Well made, in-depth, and haunting. Not knowing too much about what happened with People's Temple, I feel that it did a great job of telling the most complete story of what happened from the very beginning, not focusing solely on the church and their ultimate fate but also focusing on Jim Jones' personal life. The footage of the final night in Jonestown was especially hard to watch.
I'm pretty sure that Tolkien himself, if alive, would be in a Jackson's LOTR trilogy hate club.
bad books, bad movies
I'm pretty sure that Tolkien himself, if alive, would be in a Jackson's LOTR trilogy hate club.
I actually had a class where we read Fellowship of the Ring then watched the film, there really aren't that many major differences at all. I don't know where you're coming from. Besides a few things (Leaving out a certain character and adding in another) , the film touches upon stuff that happened in the book that I never even picked up on even though I had seen it a billion times before and I think he'd really appreciate it. Unless you're a diehard Tolkien nerd you're probably going to like the trilogy if you liked the books, imo. [editline]d[/editline] I don't know anything about the Hobbit though, never read the book and from what I hear they're butchering it. I hated it anyway, honestly the biggest piece of shit I've seen in a while.
Safety Not Guaranteed Would be 7 or 8/10 fun cute feel-good movie without a ton of depth but 0/10 for absolutely no use of Push It To The Limit.

American Hustle Very enjoyable. Fat Christian Bale/10
Isn't there a really obnoxious woodsman that literally no one likes in the book? [editline]27th March 2014[/editline]
I didn't mind that so much, it meant the original characters had the space to be fleshed out and the movie didn't end up being a parade of "oh look, now we're in X game and Y famous video game character has come to help us! "obnoxious woodman" Tom Bombadil is the embodiment of all nature in Middle Earth, he ain't no woodman, son.
